Ask yourself... which would you rather have, a this-gen game at 1080p and 60fps, or a game that looks like Epic's Samaritan demo, but at 720p and 30fps?
1080p is possible now, but won't be much more appealing next gen.
Wow. Another nonsense blurb by Jim Sterling.
The guy has to buy 6 items that provide the same DLC, and pretend like that's sensible, when writing his article.
Can't the world see that this man is a complete tool, writing BS just to get his site some hits?
It's a Nintendo 1st party studio that made it. It was never coming to PS3. Wii U maybe, but not PS3.
I would actually say this trailer... sucks. Really really bad editing for a professional trailer.
The game is awesome, and this trailer in no way represents that, IMO. Somehow the trailer makes it look like a GameCube game. I swear the game is better looking than the trailer lets on.
I think these guys missed the point... as usual.
Its fascinating how they contradict themselves. They were expecting the game to be something its not.. so they mark it down for not being a CoD clone. Then they go on to say it doesn't have great action... and then they go on to say it has great action, and that might be a reason to pick it up.
??
The 3DS makes some DS games look blurry (or small, if you don't upscale them), and there are some slowdown issues.
It's not a huge deal, but it's definitely true that the DSi probably represents the best DS game experience, not the 3DS. That might be why the DSi still costs as much as it does.
I sold my UMD games on eBay, and got enough money to repurchase them ALL for my PSP Go a couple years back. And now... all those games (well... about half so far) are on my Vita.
W00t.
In any case, your UMD collection isn't worthless. Sell them on eBay, and use the money to repurchase the games you want from the store. The "classic" trade-in program, if you will, is always an option.
On the issue of Vita vs Phones:
Due to issues with power consumption, you will NEVER see a smartphone which will outperform a Vita, with regards to gaming, during the Vita's lifetime.
I know that sounds like a nutty claim, but:
* Phone games have to embrace some pretty heavyweight APIs and OS hurdles to accommodate all the possible phone platforms a game might run on.
* Vita games are always targetted directly to the Vita hardware...
@darthv72:
I think it only doesn't charge while playing when you are connected via USB.
USB ports cannot supply very much power, which is why it takes much longer to charge a cell phone when connected to your computer than it does when you plug it into the wall.
I'm positive you can play it while it's plugged into the wall, because I played for a while that way when I got mine.
The browser is one of the apps that you can use while playing, as I recall.
Pretty desperate list, considering that one of the items is "can't stand the menu music"... which you can turn off in the settings.
That's like having a gripe that you don't like the default wallpaper or theme... because you are too inept to know how to change it.
Perhaps this is something of a "we are really digging for gripes -- man it's tough" posting, by Destructoid. The only one I can really agree with is the browser....
@darthv72:
I can confirm that some games save to the game card itself. I dunno if that's true for all of them... I imagine so. So you DON'T need a memory card after all, unless you're planning on having old PSP games onboard, movies, music, etc. Basically its *exactly* the same as the 3DS, in this regard.
Also, I doubt 2nd-stick patches are incoming... game devs would need to spend 10s of thousands of $$ to do such a thing, which would entail t...
I can't believe these professionals think that $249.99 is a high price point, for what is unquestionably the most powerful handheld device on earth. Perhaps they are actually from a different planet, where there are comparable devices, and they don't cost over $600?
You get what you pay for, most of the time, and the 3DS costs $169.99. Considering that an "iPad 3" which might be the first portable device to even rival the Vita's power, and *still* woul...
Non-working games are also transferable, though.
I don't think there are any restrictions on what you can try to transfer -- its just that, if its not available for a Vita in the Store, it just means it hasn't been verified by Sony to actually work.
I'll bet that most of the downloadable PSP library will probably be available at some point. Some games may require small fixes to the emulation software, etc. (meaning an OS update), so they may not ...
It's very likely that many games simply have not been run through the QA ringer on the Vita yet, and thus Sony doesn't want to portray them as fully playable on the Vita, until they have a small army of QA testers verify that it's true.
275 games is a LOT to verify, unless you have several thousand testers, which I'm sure Sony probably doesn't -- it probably took 6 months or longer just to get those verified. I'm not at all surprised to see some of th...
A few more PSP RPG greats, which are already available on the Vita, but they didn't mention:
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
Crimson Gem Saga
Jeanne d'Arc (SRPG, similar to Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea, etc.)
...all three said games are *phenomenal*. Don't miss em, if you like console RPGs at all. There are a truckload more RPGs that aren't yet verified as compatible (although Valykrie Chronicles 2 is supposed to work.....
"porting the projects over is probably more work than just finishing them"
This statement would be correct, although its not due to "different architecture", from a hardware standpoint -- they have different OS architectures and APIs. Also its only true if:
(a) The projects are already underway and well into development, and...
(b) The projects scope is large enough to require the 4x memory footprint and much greater processing power of th...
The low level architecture is immaterial, really, unless there is assembly code involved. It's the higher level APIs that matter, and they are not the same between Sony and Nintendo.
Hence:
"Funniest thing is that the 3DS and ps vita use different architecture, so porting the projects over is probably more work than just finishing them"
...this statement is correct if the project is already underway. However, its extremely rar...
There's no reason a 3DS-grade game couldn't be made into a digital-only PSV game, unless it actually *requires* two screens or 3D... which they just aren't going to. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a lot of crossplats this gen. I doubt any dev will "abandon" the Vita for the 3DS while having the option to do both.
Any Japanese dev deciding not to do a PSV project, should at least make a PSP version of their game that the Vita can play. There are...
Um, most of the sequels in their list have the same scores as their predecessors. About as many have higher than have lower...
And they are comparing with console games?
Is this a troll site?
