Misleading title. PlayStation 3 sales are UP from last year -- they will easily hit their annual targets. It's the TV sales that are down.
The title is a troll attempt for hits -- it should have been flagged as such. The losses in Sony's other sectors are only indirectly related to the games division (you know, the one N4G is interested in..), and the games division is actually doing decently well, contrary to the title's implication.
I didn't realize you could remap PSP controls when you play a PSP game, with the Vita. Even to the touchscreen! And there's a UMD upgrade service in Japan already?? Freaking awesome.
Fantastic review. VERY glad I have one ordered already.
This will affect console hardware far more than PCs, due to the configurable nature of the PC beast, and the fact that a significant number of GPUs with said hardware won't be in the hands of the majority for a long while.
On a console, however, this could be a big, big deal. A game built with knowledge that this kind of hardware is definitely available, can really go to town with physics and game design.
The rising number of laptop gamers actually represent the lowest common denominator.
It took until 2009 or so before laptop GPUs and CPUs even compared decently to consoles, and today you still have to spend some serious cash (~$1500) on a "gaming laptop", to get anything substantial.
Take a look at the most common models of laptops from some of the big manufacturers -- Dell, Gateway, Sony, etc. Take the default GPU (often an Intel chip), and defau...
This is why I hate the loud-voiced whiners on game forums. Somehow, the devs actually hear them, and believe they represent a majority.
Dark Souls was GREAT. If I had to take a framerate hit here and there for GREATNESS, I am OKAY with that. Please make another. If it has framerate issues, I am sure there will be a good reason -- I don't like, endorse such problems, but... WTF ever.
I thought Ryse was confirmed by Crytek to be a "XBox 720" title, and thus, not in 2012, according to MS themselves?
Also seems like the PS3 list is missing a few JRPGs (Atelier Meruru, FF Versus XIII, etc), and so is the Wii list, for that matter (Xenoblade being one of them! Order it directly from Nintendo!)
LoL.
They just knocked both the Wii U and the next XBox without realizing it. This will be a good article to quote for humor, when the full specs of the upcoming platforms are known.
None of the first round of titles will support it, if its not present in current devkits. Devs can't just crank out new features a month before they ship. Particularly if they involve interaction with a range of prototype or unknown devices that *also* don't exist yet.
I have to call BS on the whole thing. Such a feature would be wasted, if added this late.
I expected PSP support for stuff like MLB The Show, FIFA, etc. for a couple years, but more great RPGs is just... awesome.
And they never announced it publically as such, either. Revolution was the Wii's codename. They didn't shout it to the world at E3.
Good point with the GBA. Even when the Vita is 15 years old, it will be a better gaming platform than the iPhone of 15 years from now.
Controls are everything.
That *really* surprises me, despite the fact that GTA3 would probably be able to downclock the iPhone 4S processor and GPU to something really slow, use only a single core, and still run.
Actually, come to think of it, that's probably exactly what it does do. I wouldn't be at all surprised if GTA:LCS and GTA:VCS (from the PSP, and available on PSN) both lasted in the same ballpark, or longer, on the Vita.
Did they add controls to the iPhone 4S recently?
Or double the number of CPU and GPU cores maybe?
I'm thinking... no.
Also the battery comparison? Completely bogus. The Vita lasts 3-5 hours WHILE GAMING. The iPhone 4S lasts about 1.
Also... the guy seems to have forgotten that the Vita can play over 1000 PSP and PS1 games in his games comparison. It absolutely destroys the iPhone's library, from day 1.
This article was written by someone with only barebones knowledge. Don't take the assumptions that (as an example) pixel fillrate has no bearing with modern GPUs. Given high rez monitors, and the amount of overdraw necessary for some cool modern graphics FX, pixel fillrate can be VERY important. Overdraw, with alpha or otherwise, is a serious, serious performance concern with gaming, and always has been.
The article also makes no mention of memory latency.. only bandwi...
I find it hard to believe that Nintendo would backpedal on the Wii U name, at this point.
Ron Paul is a hardcore industrialist supporter. He will never do anything that condones video games for that reason, unless they somehow damage the economy. He thinks big business should take the place of government... basically that the governing bodies should also need to *profit* for their owners.
He doesn't want to raise "taxes", he wants to hand lower cost government services to the profiteering corporations, so that people can be screwed out of their pay...
I refuse to taint my MGS experiences by adding this game to my MGS memories.
I know that's harsh, but...
This rumor is the truth.
This chip targets *exactly* what MS is looking for:
* It's done, and can be released in late 2012 or early 2013, not long after the Wii U.
* It trumps the supposed Wii U by enough to call it "superior".
* It's cheap, and thus the console can be made cheaply.
* It's reliable, and will be sturdy in a livingroom environment without a turbofan.
This chip only has 2x the textur...
So... matches the best single GPU of the gen before it, at the same price.
Hmm. It better be cooler running, or.. something. Otherwise why wouldn't I just go with a card with reliable drivers, etc... in other words a 580 GTX.
A 580 GTX will probably cheaper once the new nVidia line comes out, to boot. I got a 6850, recently, for a mere $100 (after a $40 rebate). ATI still rules the low-end... but if this card is their strategy for the high-end, I can ...
I'll give you another fact to consider.
There is no "XBox division". The division the XBox sales are tallied in, also counts MS keyboard & mouse sales in their revenue.
Hmm. I'm thinking out loud... who are the two largest keyboard and mouse manufacturers on the planet?? Logitech and... I'll let you fill in that last bit yourself, and ponder how that factors in here.
It's not all roses & chocolates over a...
