It's a little strange to see the X360 SC V sales higher than the PS3 sales, IMO.
I guess, in terms of attach ratio, the PS3 is still way ahead in the US, and not everyone has the luxury of choosing a better d-pad for such a game. I've always found the slippery d-pad on the 360 to be *extremely* frustrating in fighting games, where slipping on a combo can lose you the match.
MS needs to fix that, next gen. Their controller is so well made, in other ...
There are casual 3DS consumers, sure -- they are just not as commonplace as the casual DS consumers were, during a time when the DS had NO serious competition in the casual marketplace.
There are no black & white scenarios -- don't imagine I'm painting a black & white picture, just because the shade of grey I'm talking about isn't the one you like.
The casual market was the primary reason for the success of the DS in the first place. Thus, Nintendo is hardest hit by the casual moving over to play Sudoku and Brain Twister on their iPhone.
This situation has never been surprising to anyone who actually understands the gaming industry, and the market forces that drive it.
Sweet. I have about 10 games to download on day 1, it looks. 275 older PSP games at launch is.. pretty impressive.
I'll be downloading more like 20 games, if PS1 games are also available -- the article doesn't mention them specifically, but I'm guessing FF1-9 (excepting III) will be ready to go from the outset.
This article quote:
"Those who have owned a PSP and UMD titles for years can only play their titles on their old PSP (which is not necessarily a bad thing, since the battery life is far better on the PSP than the Vita)."
...is totally unsupported (and hence, bad journalism). The 3DS lasts for up to 8 hours playing DS games. We have no idea how long the Vita battery will last when playing PSP games. I think its fair to assume it'll be a lot longer than...

@gamingdroid
Your analysis is familiar, although incorrect. Lots of devs go there, because they don't want to rework their engine, or their ideas of how an engine should work, to use a job system.
You shouldn't spew your opinion like it's fact, because its not. Check out some of Naughty Dog's GDC talks on how they utilized the PS3. The 360 is perfectly capable of "emulating" the job-style engine, although the Xenon is nowhere near...
Lead Designer says "One console is easier to develop for than other".
No one else sees anything wrong with this statement, do they?
Designers often have little technical background, and, by virtue of being on the design team, they don't actually do any software development. Design leads, in particular, don't do any development -- even engineering leads have little time for actual development, since they spend most of their time managing oth...
Used PC game sales are almost non-existent, so this guy's opinion... doesn't matter much. I think some surprising results would stem from a market without used games.
Competition is a fierce thing. Such a concept *would* drive new prices down, and *would* foster digital sales. It would also fuel developers with more money to experiment with, and we'd stop seeing so many carbon copy games, financed by publishers afraid for their quarterly reports.
Wow. Really glad I didn't win this on eBay for $55 lately. It typically goes for more than $70!
Wow. Why would they do that? Sounds like they are intentionally trying to reduce Vita sales. Do they prefer 3DS used sales to Vita used sales?
...or maybe a pre-E3 clearance, on single-analog 3DS units??
Dual analogs FTW.
Legend of Dragoon has a good chance of making it someday, I think. Sony published it... that increases the chances of it making it to PSN many-fold.
Valkyrie Profile never will, because it would compete with itself on the PSP (there was a PSP edition), and S-E would never have that.
Cars rarely get resold more than once, the manufacturers charge a fee for every part made, parts need replacement, and most parts last less than 10 years.
I'm not seeing the similarity in this car-game comparison.
Wow. The number of people who honestly believe that devs give a crap about people who buy used is amazing.
Devs and players of used games aren't business partners at all, outside of used games players freeloading MP services, and the devs having to charge for DLC to pay for it.
If I were a dev, I'd be GLAD if only 20% the number of players played my game online... at least everyone playing would have helped support the service, and I could run 20% th...
The arrogance of the 360 fanboy is so quick to resurface, after years of bated anxiety.
Some quick advice:
* No point to having more than 3 cores, or 4 hardware threads, because games won't have much use for more, by low-end targetted design.
* You will not need more than 8 GB RAM
* DDR[N+1] has more bandwidth than DDR[N]… and more latency. Choose wisely - especially with normal RAM.
* Get a midrange GPU, not high-end, if you can't see much difference between 720p and 1080p. It's not usually worth it, unless you are a videop...
I usually wait for the price on a game to drop to $30 before I pick it up, because I have such a huge game backlog, I can afford to wait.
That said, I'm picking this one up at $60. Compared to 20 hour games that I've spent $30 on (Fable 2 comes to mind), it'll be a steal at that price.
Nintendo is also having some bad times, though. =(
LoL @ the Casual Journalists who honestly believe that Angry Birds is the end-all of gaming -- simply because they've never had more than 5 minutes to play a game.
Phone gaming sucks, and always will, until you add controls, and utilize them, as well as utilizing the hardware *to the metal* (i.e. not with Java or Objective C... lol). Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't have the perspective necessary to speak to the serious gamer market in the first place.
