You're assuming these people wouldn't have ordered the game without being able to trade-in a game for some paltry credit. I think you're mistaken.

I think its more likely that the average GameStop customer has games (probably largely games they bought used from GS), usable as coupons, just laying around, and will trade them in whenever they make a pre-order. I doubt they would cry if they had to pre-order from Amazon at $3 off the full price instead.

I own both. I like both.

I count 2 good reasons for the 3DS, in their list of 10 (Nintendo games is one of them). I count 2 non-reasons to favor either, in the same list, and 6 reasons that actually favor the Vita (like "console like experience".. I have no idea how they think that's a point in favor of the 3DS)

If I had to choose, I would lose the 3DS in a heartbeat... and it only cost me $140, not $170. I paid full price for the Vita, howev...

In before the whiners complain about how the games should have been $20 apiece on day one... oh wait, too late.

Your argument is akin to claiming that you can't play Magic: The Gathering by purchasing a single deck, or even a single deck plus a few boosters. You are effectively claiming that everyone needs to buy two-four entire boxes of boosters, because otherwise they won't receive the full experience, and therefore... ripoff.

It doesn't work that way, and $70 is *nothing* compared to how much, for example, people spend on beer & smokes each month, which arguably pro...

"they could have just as easily added it in to the main game"

...tacking another 3 months onto dev time, and raising their development costs by several million dollars, yet the price remains fixed at $60.

If you don't see the flaw in that, I can't help you. The "full experience" is what the developer can fit within their budget, and on time, not your claim to every idea they ever had that might be able to go into the game.

Read the article before you comment, guys.

Day One DLC is what devs work on during the ~3 months their physical game is being verified, manufactured, and shipped. Its an extra 3 months of effort, beyond the scope of the game.

If you believe that extra 3 months should be in the game in the first place, then the game would be delayed 3 months longer, and then there'd be ANOTHER 3 months, during which, the devs would make... *drum roll* Day 1 DLC.

WTH?

Why does the article state that you can trade in a £40 game and get £30 back? When on earth have you ever been able to make such trades at GAME?

Yeah, I felt the Corvette wasn't the best comparison. =)

My point stands. Sportscars have higher profit margins than regular cars, so comparing sales numbers is pretty meaningless between the two -- much like comparisons between the 3DS and Vita are somewhat meaningless.

There is *some* demographic overlap, but the profit margins on everything both hardware and software will be too different to simply compare raw sales #s. A successful product is succes...

To all those comparing 3DS sales to Vita sales...

Newsflash: The Honda Civic outsells the Porsche Carrera every year. That doesn't make the Porsche unprofitable, nor does it make it undesirable -- in fact, the exact opposite is true. Also, no serious driving fan would choose to own a Civic over a Carrera, given the option.

These two handhelds are not competing for the same demographics, and comparing their sales is almost meaningless, except, perhaps, w...

All I'm thinking, while reading this really, is that I hope there will be a MAG 2 for the next PlayStation.

SO much potential there.

Makes a bit more sense from that angle, now doesn't it?

Considering that Frostbite 2.0 is next-gen technology, and EA invented and owns it, whereas the CoD engine is nothing more than a well-maintained, highly modified Quake 3 engine, I would say that Activision has a *ton* of work to do, before they are going to be able to get CoD to compete with its next-gen competition.

Presumably, they have never had need of a serious engineering team at IW or Treyarch (or Sledgehammer), because maintaining an existing engine is a hella-lot ea...

This guy doesn't seem to realize that the reason console hardware is so cheap, is because its sold at a loss, or nearly break-even, after the retail cut is factored in.

I'm not supporter of MS'es One Consumer strategy, but I can say that selling hardware is NOT one of the ways they make money. Nintendo is the ONLY company to manage such a feat in the past 8 years, because they sell aging tech for relatively high prices. The DS, Wii, 3DS, and likely the Wii U, al...

@2EHO

Nope. Reviewers get early access to downloadable titles as well. A long time, even, before launch. Review embargos are the only thing that prevents most reviews from hitting the street a good two weeks before any game launches.

Games are typically finished at least 6 weeks before launch, because it takes that long to manufacture and ship/distribute the titles to retail. Even downloadable titles take some time to validate the digital packaging, so th...

LoL. 3DS won the "worst scoring launch title" category.

I personally own both, but I already prefer my Vita library, which is a real shame, considering the 3DS has been out a full year.

@steverhude:

PS2 games are not generally available on the store for repurchase. There are only ~10 of them even present, and they are all rare, wierd classics -- I sincerely doubt you owned more than a couple of them, if that.

You were talking about PS1 games, hence, the response. Sony is not asking you to "repurchase" anything on the store that you cannot already play at home with a disc.

Umm.. dual analogs and cart media rather than some wierd disc format and a single analog? Fully integrated PSN & trophy support, and full social app features? Sturdy design, since there are no moving parts?

On top of that they enhanced what people loved about the PSP -- cutting edge performance, beautiful display, good ergonomics, etc.
