Two GPUs could be used for tiled rendering, as opposed to scan-line interleave. They could also be assigned to work on separate framebuffers, or one GPU could be devoted to doing CUDA-style work, while the other renders.

If this is true, it's very likely that the GPUs are cheap, independently, because together they'd be a match for most anything else an affordable console could put together.

The "performs like a 6670" rumor we heard a while...

There are some amazing PSP RPGs available on the Vita already.

I highly recommend both this one, and Ys Seven, amongst a slew of others (like Crimson Gem Saga, Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, Hexyz Force, etc.).

Stay away from the HitMaker RPGs, though -- Blade Dancer and Dragoneer's Aria. They basically... well, suck. Blade Dancer had the worst ending *ever* (and was weak in general), and Dragoneer's Aria I quit playing about halfway through. ...

Ancient Chinese saying:

"The powerful GPU that renders two large final screenbuffers, rather than one, suffers some on the big screen"

If the GPU is only 4x the power of the 360's GPU, and you try to render a 1920x1080 render target with it, PLUS have to render ANOTHER 960x540 buffer to the tablet... that's gonna be trouble.

Zipper's engineering was some of the best on earth. You can name a lot of shooters with high-end rendering tech, but you can't name even one other that could put together 256 nearly lag free players while animating them, doing collisions, and doing ragdolls, with vehicles to boot.

Not even close. On a PC, maybe (not that its even been tried, outside of PlanetSide), but on a console with 256M of memory? Freaking amazing.

MAG was a huge R&D project, that sold me on the PS3. 4 years is nothing for such a monumental achievement.

Name another 256 player console shooter. Or even 64 or 128. AND it was lag free in the beginning, while Sony kept servers up around the world. What other studio can claim to have accomplished anything close to that?

Some people just don't get it. You have to wonder if some reviewers even bother to put themselves in the mindset of their potential readers.

I can't believe people still believe battery-powered mobile CPUs and GPUs can even come *close* to competing with their power hungry brethren.

Anyone who even suggests so is instantly branded "ignorant sheep", in my eyes. Don't even get me started on the lack of a serious control interface.

Sales, in given categories, tend to balance out on a revenue basis.

To give an honest evaluation of the "popularity" of PSVita vs the 3DS, you need to divide the sales #s by the revenue it takes to acquire the units.

3DS units tend to range from $150-$170 for the base unit, whereas Vita tend to range from $250-300. Dividing by those numbers puts them pretty much in the same ballpark, which is expected.

New games only cost $20-$30 if you're patient. As a side benefit, they're also fully patched and DLC'ed if you wait for it.

Whining about early adopter costs is dumb. That's like whining that live NFL/NBA/MLB/etc. tickets cost more than pay-per-view does. Yep, they do... so what?

Are you certain you're qualified to judge them?

I like anime, but trying to make a game by showing some anime with some damage numbers popping over it just doesn't do it for me.

People wonder why Japanese devs are having such trouble this gen. Put together a real game engine, folks, rather than making games that coulda been made in pure ActionScript/Flash.

Nintendo never drops the price of their games ($50), yet they sell millions upon millions of copies. Even the ones that are practically carbon copies of their predecessors -- I'm looking at you, Animal Crossing, SSBB, Fire Emblem & Mario Kart.

Awesome. Gust games are pretty great, especially in the PS3 era.

MC better bust out the jetpowered boots and spikey armor, if he thinks he can take Robotnik.

That's dumb. Undoubtably all this MS and Sony "not playing used" means is that you'll simply need a registration pass to start playing them.

Like an online pass, there's no reason these couldn't be included with a used sale at GameStop. Yes, it reduces GameStop's ridiculous used profit margins, because GameStop is forced to buy these passes from the publishers, but... the used business is still viable, now isn't it? Now it simply rewards t...

Even 2-3x the memory, alongside same-ish CPU and GPUs would qualify the statement as true. The director at Vigil said "has many more resources" which makes it more powerful.

In other words, it has more memory than the 512MB the X360 and PS3 have. Probably 1.5GB, like the rumors have stated.

More memory is a huge deal -- much moreso than most people realize. There are a lot of optimizations and cool stuff you can do with a game engine when you sim...

I'm having trouble understanding what the goblin and orc ladies are doing in front of the cool new console. I do understand why the person near the camera is taking photos, however. How else do you prove you were at a goblin dance party?

"New GPUs are out every 3 months"

The difference between the last round of PC GPUs and the current has been over a year, and the next round (20nm) is not due for a couple more years, at least.

Semiconductor tech is reaching its physical limits. Don't expect PCs to affordably see speed increases past the next few years. You cannot expect the tech world to just keep striding forward as it has for the past few decades. At a certain point, the la...

Usually consoles are first announced about 1.25 - 1.5 years before they are released. This makes a LOT of sense this time around, since the Wii U will be severely damaged by the announcement of a XBox Durango and/or PS Orbis before it launches this holiday. That's exactly what Nintendo's competitors want. Five months is too little time to build up hype for a new machine, especially if your main competition (Wii U) has been running for a year already.

E3 2012 is the...

So that's... not as many as playing console & PC games, and console gamers spend a truckload more on software than phone gamers do.

Apparently, people prefer console & PC gaming, despite having access to phone gaming at practically all times. I have to say that I believe the "casual market" is WAY overestimated as a direct competitor to hardcore gaming.
