Lol. Red/blue stereoscopic 3D. The PS2 did that with Sly 3 -- wasn't half bad, if you don't mind the glasses.
So... if the rumors are true, the PS4 is basically an 8-core AMD piledriver with dual 7670s, that puts it on par with a pretty decent gaming rig.
Why would people complain about such a beast? Seems awesome to me.
$60 for 40 hours of great entertainment.
You'd have to really have some serious sense of entitlement to not believe that was worth it.
How much do non-interactive SD movies cost again, at launch? $20? For a 2 hours of passive entertainment, or less? Most movies probably cost far less than AC3 did to make, as well.
I personally define "next gen" as "able to offer an experience significantly more advanced than what is currently available". I could care less about timing, or raw power -- its all about the game experiences.
By that definition, the only worthwhile definition in my eyes, the Wii U is not "next gen", whereas the Wii was, because it offered something new. The controller pad just isn't the Wiimote, in terms of new experiences.
Takes guts to criticize one of the most acclaimed games of all time.
Or the author is just an ignorant casual gamer.
I haven't decided which.
You should only buy these games if you are a gamer, who likes gaming.
If you are an anti-Sony fanboy, who despises fun, you won't like them, and you should save your money.
Written just like someone who had never played, but only read reviews, of these games, would write. Like the opinion of an individual who literally can't think for himself, and praises the words of "bigger" journalists as the gospel truth.
Lair was a pretty good game. Haze was not shabby, just unremarkable -- tbh it was better than CoD, in single-player.
Kinect is fantastic for kids. Just sayin.
So is PS Move, for that matter.
I don't get it. When was this version of the console ever advertised as an "upgrade"?
If anything, it is practically the same as every PS3 made in the last 4-5 years. Unlike, for example, the Wii, which lost BC with the GameCube about a year ago, just like the original PS3 did.
If iPhone is so awesome with the gaming, and its been out nearly as long as the DS & PSP, where are the great games?
Great games studios are great because of the people that work there... they don't simply "go dumb" one day.
Rare, in its original form, is gone.
To the kid who said that a 2.4 GHz core 2 duo plus an 8800 GTX was more powerful than the PS3:
LoL. The 8800 GTX was a great GPU, sure -- probably near 2x the GPU that the RSX is. The trouble with your statement is that it implies that a 2.4 GHz core 2 duo was even 1/4 the CPU that the Cell is... its not.
You need both to make a great rig or console. Most of your 8800 example's muscle would be burned doing mesh skinning and probably physics and animati...
LOL. BS.
If Sony releases a PS2.5 next year, will it be next gen?
A ps2 with a huge hdd, wifi, and PSN PS2 games?
The PS2 was NOT weaker than the DC. Come on, supporting your argument with ignorance gets you nowhere.
Was the Wii "this gen"? It is slightly more powerful than the Xbox, just as the Wii U will be slightly more than the 360...
Is a 2012 solar calculator next gen, because it is from 2012?
I'm gonna say... no.
Consider the following points:
A) The Wii U hasn't been proven fun. It's not out yet.
B) The Wii U tablet doesn't have its own CPU and GPU -- it must drain Wii U resources, whereas the PS3/Vita combo doesn't.
Oh man I love it when Kotaku jumps the gun and backs the wrong fanboys.
The sum total of their reasoning is "Nintendo is great... look at DS, Wii, 3DS". They have conveniently forgotten that the Wii has lost Nintendo a truckload of $$ in the last couple years, and that the GC and N64 before it were hardly winners, in the console space. Those are some stylish rose-tinted shades.
Also... "strong online support". Riiight. That's why Ni...
@StrawHatPatriot,
I hear ya, that the Wii had some decent games, but they pale in comparison to what the HD twins had in the past 6 years, and that's the point.
Why pay $100 more, for less?
I agree with the author...
Wii U is a superb entry in the PS3/360 generation of consoles.
That IS what he's saying, after all. Oh the irony.
