Seriously, a lot here have become total sheeps from the touch screen devices thanks to the popularization by apple sold by "swipey, swipey unpractical gimmick" instead of a single button press from where your hand is positioned comfortably already.
The VITA IS NOT just a touch screen device. It's supposed to be the perfect marriage of both for the whole gaming experience from console UI to the real meat: games.
Just make use of it Sony devs.

it's all about pricing pricing pricing.. The 3DS wasn't selling as good until the huge price drop came.
The 3DS is cheaper than your comparable idevice (touch).. And the fact that the big N has quite some huge established IP and fanbase.. Mario anyone?
Is the dedicated gaming handheld console w/ the poor backwards compatibility, lesser software library, overall most expensive base system a niche device?
If that not is IDK what kind of weird exclusive meaning the word NICHE has anymore.
In regular use of terms I'd say the VITA's a niche.. the smallest in fact.

Hate to say it but the big N has some powerful crack against the VITA.
Not that I really care tho. Don't like those games (except the 2d old mario games).
Hmm.. haven't played a game with the highest tier of graphics that had mindblowing-ly boring and useless gameplay.
(UC, Crysis Series, Metro, BF, Batman, etc.)
Even games like Infinity Blade seems very enjoyable.
Then again, everything's subjective.
