I agree that 2015 will be an even better year for the PlayStation 4. Looking at past generations 2016/2017 will be the peak years for the PlayStation 4. The PS4 should be able to sell 16-18m in 2015 and around 20m in 2016 and 2017.
It is still the bestselling franchise for another year, but sales have declined for two straight years. When you release a new game in a franchise every year it causes market saturation and people get tired of it.
Yeah good point. Either way the PS4 and Xbox One are selling great.
They are saying this because the Wii U is not selling anywhere near what the Wii sold. However, core gaming is as strong as ever.
You are correct. The PS4 has a nearly 10 million lead over the PS3 while the Xbox One has a lead of 3 million over the Xbox 360.
They should remain ahead through the rest of the year. The PS3 and Xbox 360 had slow starts. The only question is will they have the same legs.
If you take out the Wii and Wii U, the home consoles are actually ahead by a good margin. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are way ahead of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 during the same time frame.
@Neonridr - Yeah that is a good point. People love to disagree.
2015 is shaping up to be an even better year with a lot more releases.
Also the PS4 continues to grow its gap over the Xbox One and Wii U in worldwide sales.
Cellode is correct. VGChartz PS4 sales are spot in. I think it is safe to say the Xbox One and Wii U sales are pretty close to being right.
The PS4 numbers are spot on with Sony's official figures.
Sales might not be as bad in January as I expected. At least in the US. Microsoft has dropped the price of the Xbox One back down to $349.
These are worldwide sales, not just the US. The Xbox One didn't get a price cut in Europe or Asia.
You can't forget to add the population of those countries and the GDP. The Xbox One is out in all the major countries.
I agree. Great sales all around and how the Xbox One sales will more than likely crash in January.
I'm not sure of it reaching 100 million. I don't think it will quite have the legs of the original DS. I expect it to sell 80 to 90 million lifetime.
Haha yeah. That is some amazing numbers.
40 million by the end of 2015, is definitely possible.
@Cellode - If it reached 90 million units by the end of 2017 that would mean it would have to average 23.8 million units in 2015, 2016 and 2017. I don't see sales jumping up that much in 2015.
