$349 sounds likely. $229... doesn't.
@zero_cool,
Enjoy school, bro. I highly suggest that parallel algorithms class.
Actually their statement is BS, when you consider that multiple cores have to be manually utilized by the engineers.
Parallel algorithms don't write themselves. Plain and simple. Some devs simply don't put jobs on the SPU cores, or at least not all of them, for all the game frame. Hence they are NOT using 100% of the CPU all the time, because the CPU consists of ALL those cores, not just the PPU.
I hate to diss anything ND says, since I respect the...
So.. they want everyone to own a supercomputer so they aren't "held back" as much?
O.. K...
Silly question.
My biggest worry is that, in becoming multiplatform, will FromSoftware choose to simply lowest-common-denominator between both consoles, and neither one will shine like it could?
Stealth doesn't make for good action video in MP?
I'm sure there's plenty of stealth in the game.
You sir, are a fool for judging a one-life-per-round TPS from a free-fly cam video. You owe it to yourself to try classic SOCOM, if you claim to enjoy shooters at all.
You guys are overreacting.
The game has a classic mode in all game types, without all these new things. Nothin' stopping you from playing just classic mode, if that's what you want.
You should be happy -- the new modes will attract more SOCOM players. They'll give classic mode a try eventually.. and then they probably won't look back -- to CoD, either. SOCOM one-life / round FTW.
@Pandamobile
The framerate hit of MSAA usually makes it < MLAA, in most people's books.
I'd personally take 1280x720 with MLAA over 960x540 with 4xMSAA any day, any game. Who needs top shelf AA, when you you have to trade in half the screen real estate, or 10 fps, to get it?
MLAA is better than 8xMSAA on everything but thin lines, in any case. You're reachin', by claiming that MSAA is "better" than MLAA without ...
Mostly I think they just sat in a conference room and thought up one-liners that Master Chief could say.
No offense to Bungie, but the books are sooo much better than the game plots. Bungie could have done a much better job with the storytelling in basically every Halo game. They should have hired the novelists that wrote the Halo novels.
I kinda think this article, like many, takes the "make it more like 3DS, and it will sell better" viewpoint... which is wrong.
Sony is aiming at a different market intentionally. Redirecting their efforts to direct competition with Nintendo is NOT a good idea. The NGP is meant for a smaller, more hardcore, audience, and that's fine by me, and by all the people who are excited for the NGP hitting store shelves this holiday season.
Sony is aimin...
Wow. 400 MS points that expire if you don't use them in a few months.
Since basically nothing good costs 400 points on XBL, they're basically giving you a "$5 off your next XBL purchase, if you buy soon" coupon, for recruiting you friends. i.e. you can buy stuff from them, if you go to the trouble of recruiting a pal.
Wow @ the benefits.

How about 3-6 months of Gold for free, MS?
There's a really bad reason the 360 is currently outselling the PS3.
It comes with a 250GB HDD, whereas the equally-priced PS3 comes with a 160GB.
People are dumb enough to think that more HDD space means "better", despite the fact that HDD space is really only useful if you're going to make a lot of online purchases, or install tons of stuff.
As soon as the PS3 rolls out 250GB and 500GB SKUs, it'll be back on top.. unle...
Not getting a 3DS for my kids. They couldn't give me one for free... well maybe if the 3D slider was broken... but I've already got a couple PSPs.
You haven't played MAG, then?
SOCOM is good, but your MAG comments are straight from the 360 fanboy playbook, and like most such commetns, they're just made up and blatantly wrong.
The graphics aren't phenominal (they're also not too bad, especially when you compare it to other shooters where you can see 5 dozen guys fighting in front of you.. oh wait), but the controls, sounds, etc. are top notch.
3DS one is a kinda a lie. Its really got 3 screens, not two. 2 400x240 overlay screens, and one smaller. There is no 800x240 screen, really -- its a single device with two display buffer outputs that overlap, not a single large one.
It might appear unified to an API, but then... so do multiple monitors in some DirectX setups. Its not a 800x240 screen, though.
From the article:

PRO: It Has Cell Phone Games and Features
-- Yup
CON: It Isn't a Phone
-- Speculation. We don't know that.
PRO: Proven Technology

CON: What's the Hook?
-- Most powerful gaming handheld in existance, and not by a small margin?
PRO: Most Powerful Handheld on the Planet
-- Yup.. oh look that answers the question above.

"Personally I don't see it "thriving" but it's definitely going to fare better than PSP"
??
If it does better than the PSP, it will have practically dethroned Nintendo as the handheld monarch, since they'll actually have to share the handheld kingdom with Sony. 60 million PSPs is nothing to scoff at -- especially when they cost more, and thus demand more revenue from the consumer to make the "same" numbers in-hand.
More likely they are the PC versions.
No... but KZ3 plus the zillion other PS3 exclusives coming down the pipe might be. In the past I would have said "why trade in? Just own both" but lately I can see the appeal of only owning one console, with the lack of hardcore exclusives on the 360 that will actually remain exclusive. At least wait for Gears 3 before trading your trustworthy 360 in, though.
