I'm a little confused as to why this article lists a GPU as "the processor". That's a little telling, with regards to the knowledge level of the article author.

I can see 5 million. I doubt it'll be much more than that, but I also doubt it'll be much less.

Lol. I like how some of them are totally unsubstantiated rumors, like the "has PS2 BC" one.

The article suggests that Sony has some sort of PS2 emulator, which upscales games to HD, when, in fact, the God of War collection guys (BluePoint) stated explicitly that they took the source directly from God of War 1/2 and reworked it a little to compile on the PS3. There was no emulation involved -- the game was ported.

Some of the other games that have ...

Sure you own them. You can hack them all you want, as well. You just can't share that knowledge with others, or the results of that knowledge (like pirated software), because then you're creating an illegal trade that harms the rest of the economy.

You can't create an illegal trade ring with yourself -- buy all the games you'd like to copy, and then copy them all you want. You just can't give those copies away (or sell them), because then you are *tradi...

If you believe they have the right to modify that hardware to bypass other laws, made to protect the *seller* of the hardware, and the people who make media for it, isn't that kind of... one-sided?

Aren't most transactions two-way agreements? How does arguing that all transactions should favor the consumer work to promote fair trade and decency, particularly when it comes to entertainment media? How do the laws that protect consumers outweigh those that protect the ...

Pachter is right, with regards to the fact that it would be a mistake for Nintendo to launch a new console that was significantly different, in terms of power, than the 360 or PS3. The reason the Wii has such little 3rd party love is because games on it *have* to be exclusives, or severe downports (which are more expensive to make than mild ports between similar systems like the PS3 and 360).

It would be brilliant of them to launch a console that was right in line with those...

If a user is allowed to crack + publish the crack info without contest, then the "sell hardware cheap, make money from software" business model needs to change to "sell hardware for profit, make the user sign a contract with criminal consequences if they break it".

Said user is taking subversive action against a corporation, which represents the financial stability of all who work for, and invest in, said corporation. Corporations are not robots -- they&#...

Modern Warfare 3?

The story kinda ended with MW2, didn't it? I mean... I guess the main bad guy is still alive, but all the heroes, and other bad guys, were basically dead or crippled at the end of MW2.

This will be a great Move/Kinect comparison, when the game hits the shelves.

You'd think that MS would come out with "Microsoft Handball" or somesuch, to promote controller-free sports, though... although I suppose the coolest aspect of handball is that it is an incredibly fast game.. even a little lag might not suit it well.

I'm still waiting for a redux of Microsoft Decathalon, in the modern day. Kinect might be well-suited. I destroyed...

You can't lock out the 3D effect. You can turn it off, but a child can simply turn it back on.

What I want is a parental lockout for the 3D effect in games, so the physical slider has no effect whatsoever.

Ironically, the big thing that I would want would be to lock out the 3D effect in games, because I don't want my kids' vision screwed up. I'm fine with it for pictures they take with the built-in camera, etc.

The 3DS has a lot of appeal over the DSi, for other reasons, but the 3D actually is a downside, IMO.

The Wii HD will be less powerful than the 360, if it comes out this year -- it has to maintain a decent price point if Nintendo wants to keep sales going strong, and they always seek to profit, at least somewhat, on HW.

If such a beast does come out soon, it'll be confusing for those who like to define "generations" by Nintendo releases. Will a new console, less powerful than consoles from the current generation, define a "next gen"?

If you read the article... Pachter is actually saying that Nintendo should charge *more*, not less.

If you wouldn't buy one for $250, then you definately wouldn't buy one for $300 -- so you're kind of agreeing with Nintendo's decision to drop the price toe $249.99, rather than $299.99 or so.

Nintendo isn't raking in money off these, like they do from the DS -- the screen tech is expensive, and the 3DS has built-in storage as well. People ...

" I think you don't know what mainstream means, or a typical pathetic N4GPS3 troll that gets butthurt whenever credit is given to Sony's biggest rival Nintendo for anything. Judging by your comment history you seem to be the latter."

Okay... um... I guess I'm sorry for hurting your feelings, and implying that Nintendo might not actually dominate the world merely by nature of being Nintendo.

The kids demographic is just plain huge. I wouldn't be surprised if the next gen of handhelds turned out just like this one, with a 2-to-1ish ratio of 3DS to PSP2s, just because they cater to different crowds, and the crowds just aren't changing around like the hardware is. It's possible, however, that the tables could turn on the 3DS -- more because of competition with the DSi, though, than the PSP2.

The real challenge, for Nintendo, is to ensure they keep thei...

Indeed, you can come up with enough gestures and motions to make for a shooter. Punching for shooting, jumping for jumping, bend arm to reload, reach behind to change weapons, bend knee to do actions, etc.

The real question is.. is it as fun as a controller or mouse FPS, or is it just a lot of frustrating effort?

Honestly, I would have to say it was the iPhone that made touchscreens popular, not the DS.

I can see the possibility in what Reggie is suggesting, but his going there, before the platform is even released, is beyond bold, IMO. There is no humility in his statement whatsoever -- I'm merely stating a fact, and an interesting one, worthy of discussion.

Hire them to do what, exactly?

Security is 100x more difficult than hacking. I don't think these guys are experienced enough to cut it, honestly. They cracked some mistakes open, but that doesn't imply that they have the knowledge to create a more secure system.

It took these guys 4 years of the "British Museum" approach to crack the PS3. When they finally stumbled on something they could use, that makes them bright? I don't think so...
