That's like saying Shakespeare was a cruddy playwright, because he wrote his works on paper, rather than a computer, and used male actors to play female roles, rather than the real thing, due to societal "rules" of the times.
Retro games were awesome in their day. If anything, they fueled the imagination without relying on their primitive graphics, and instead relying upon their open storytelling and original gameplay. Something modern games often (not always)...
It'll be interesting to see how well Forza 4 does, now that all the pent-up GT5 waiting is relieved. Forza will have to depend on its own merits, rather than being the only "racing sim" racer in the HD era, as Forza 3 was when it released.
Will people jump to Forza in droves? Or will they flip Turn 10 the bird, and state "I'm waiting for GT6", instead? It'll be great fanboy drama, no matter the outcome.
So.. turns out, its just hacked firmware that really poses a risk.
Go figure.
I actually felt this game (demo) was half decent. Unlike Dynasty Warriors, which I think is... not as good.
Am I the only one who finds your defense, against this doctor having a warning, disgusting?
Don't have kids, do you? Or realize just how many stupid parents would let their kids play 3DS hours each day, until they went blind.
The opportunity to watch 3D on the big screen is both rare, and viewed at a much greater distance. Its not the same thing. Not even close.
Adhoc party is awesome, btw. Incredibly intuitive and useful for PSP play with your pals, while at home.
You basically hook up your PSP to your PS3, get into a room with your pals, and play, just like you were all in the same room together.
So.. they have a PC with a Cell? Or did they only grab a similar GPU?
I kinda think it'd be tough to "emulate" a PS3 without a Cell to reduce the workload of the effective 7800 GTX GPU. It probably performs closer to a PC with a 7900 GTX, with the support of the SPUs.
Doesn't this happen every year with MS?
Last year it was "Wait for it, wait for it! Kinect will have the hardcore games announced at the next event! Microsoft is hiding the big game announcements until <fill in the blank>!"
I'm still waiting for it.
I think the SOCOM series has kinda fallen off "pop" games radar. It became "niche" after its first couple iterations, and all but the hardcore have gradually lost interest.
I would say SOCOM 4 has a good chance to reverse that trend, from what I've seen of it. It has "sleeper hit" written all over it. ...which is one of the reasons the "SOCOM community" is so belligerent about it, I think. Ironic, since regaining popularity, and...
I don't see how liking FF1 & 2 makes Grandia and Chrono Trigger any less great?
TBH, of those 4, Grandia is my fav, but that doesn't stop the others from being awesome.
Excellent points. Great article -- well worth the time to read. If only all gaming journalism were as professional and to-the-point.
I care. 2 of the greatest RPGs of all time?
MechAssault was not a good direction for MechWarrior. It was a fine arcade game.
I prefer MechWarrior, and not the MW4 version, which was so arcade as to practically be first-person MechAssault.
I won't touch another arcade game called "Mech"Anything. I want a MechWarrior SIM, because that's what MechWarrior is all about. The stride of my 100-ton assault mech should make my room shake (through my subwoofer) when I run across the battlefie...
Only the two screens with the Chimera character appear to be concept art.
The other three are clearly in-game -- they have some clear polygonal corners that no concept art would have. Those three are obviously NOT concept art, despite looking as good as they do.
I ignore the sales numbers when I look at the consoles. That makes it pretty easy to see which I prefer.
I can see how each would appeal to a different audience (I own all 3, and a PSP and a PS2), so I'm not surprised when others claim a different favorite.
What I am surprised at, is when others don't seem to understand that each console has its strengths and weaknesses. The worst "fanboys" seem to believe their console to be the platform ...
MechWarrior... so awesome. MS kinda ruined it when they owned the license. MW4 sucked compared to MW3 and MW2. Mech Commander was similarly awesome... then MS bought it, made Mech Commander 2 (and those Mech Assault games.. which were okay, but not MechWarrior). Junk.
Thankfully MS sold off the license to a company called Smith & Tinker, which is actually a company founded by some of the founders of FASA, iirc, who created the MW tabletop game to begin with.

Looks pretty decent in these stills. I won't hold my breath until I see it in action, though.
Honestly, given the difference in power between high-end PC CPUs and GPUs over the past couple years, I think the organic shot looks a little.. plastic. As do the buildings in the shot where they can be seen closer up.
I won't be impressed until I see some super fluid animation with inverse kinematics for foot placement, good looking ragdolls, and 60 fps wi...
The article is about making a gaming rig, not shopping for the cheapest PC possible...
I can go to Goodwill and put together a PC on par with the $525 one you've imagined (without actual components, and you're using the student upgrade cost on the cheapest Windows 7? one without XP BC...), for < $200.
Does that make it worthy of being used for PC gaming? If your Mom gives you most of this stuff for free, does that mean that anyone can build a gam...
And the OS?
Also... you'd sink hundreds into a custom gaming PC, and then buy a crappy mouse? The primary input device of your new rig? That's like owning a pro basketball team, and then buying them all used sneakers instead of serious shoes.
Do you even play PC games? If you aren't a PC gamer (Pretty sure that wanting a $15 mouse qualifies you as a non-PC gamer), you probably shouldn't be speaking up on this subject.
I'm having trouble understanding how Bobby's low profit margins are making shareholders happy, when he could be raking in MUCH more. CoD and WoW combined should be raking in nearly 2x the profits, if they compared profit, as a part of revenue, with their primary competitors.
Activision is doing decently well because they have solid IPs at this time. Bobby is also, obviously, running those IPs into the ground. He's not doing a good job in my book. He's sitt...
