I'm usually pleasantly surprised when a JRPG pops up out of nowhere, because the little games seem to try a lot harder to be worthwhile than the big franchises do, these days.

The underlying processor architecture is mostly hidden to devs, except in a few speed-intensive portions of their codebase. The iPhone APIs (application programming interfaces) are most of what comprises an iPhone app, at least at a "middle" architecture level, and those aren't available outside of iOS.
That said, Android apps will probably work just fine.

The root key would only be useful for the tough-to-defeat mechanism Sony had set up in hardware.
Sony can simply embed a new anti-piracy mechanism into the firmware, just as MS and Nintendo do, and all future discs will be safe-ish from piracy -- as safe as Nintendo and MS, anyway.
SEGA doesn't have the funding, or the resources, to create a new console.
The chance of Apple entering the console market, is much, much higher than the chance of SEGA coming back to hardware.

Wow. There are a few gems, but compared to the XBLA and PSN collections, the Wii is incredibly weak. There's even more shovelware with WiiWare than there is in Wii disc games.. it approaches the shovelware-grade of XBL Community titles.
