They're both comic book heroes that had arguably the same demographic. Both had stories for mature audiences and also kid friendly ones, including daytime cartoons.

Plus, what counts as effeminate to the Chinese? Guilty Gear characters such as Zato and Anji would be considered effeminate? Alucard? Cloud? Various interpretations of Link? Half of the Tales of Arise cast? Raiden from MGS? I heard they plan on censoring male characters with ponytails and earrings as well. I guess even Geralt won’t make the cut.

Why? Final Fantasy and Castlevania had a lot of effeminate characters. Actually, a lot of Japanese and Korean games have them, because they have a different view on beauty.

I have it! It's actually pretty cool. However, it has a bit of a personality disorder, I can see why it did poorly, but the game itself is pretty fun when you get into it.
I don't remember any of that in FF7R, TBH.
A few odd design choices, but overall a good game. Hope they get traction to develop an even better sequel.

The story is perfectly fine. Just because the character you like did not make it or something did not go the way you wanted doesn’t mean “they messed up”. There are objective ways to tell if a story is really not that good but “I don’t like it” is not it. Also, if you go solely by a trope and cliche standpoint, the first game is actually the weakest: “tough guy softened by cute child in a road trip” is one of the oldest tales ever told… The Road, True Grit, Logan, Gran Torino…
Would be better if it was a Gary Stu?
