The Xbox 1 had no difficulty with PS2 ports. Why does the PS3 have problems. It's $200 more? How can anyone justify that cost? We keep waiting for better games on PS3, but it isn't happening. (It won't happen at all since the PS3 is doomed, anyways.)
The Atari 2600 is important since it was the first successful console in which the controller was key. It had to appeal to a public that never played video games, and it succeeded.
I agree that the Dreamcast should be on that list. It was very important since it led to the Xbox and 360 design.
Some people have this vision in their mind that's supposed to rival Star Wars movies. Gaming journalists have been beating the "these aren't next-gen games" drum since Kameo (which was very next-gen). But it's perfectly ok for God of War to use QTEs (button presses in cutscenes) and fixed cameras. Also, according to many journalists, God of War looks like a 360 game. Journalists are clueless.
The list is a joke. What's wrong with hot women? That's a good trend. I suppose they would replace Lara Croft with Rosie O'Donnel. Super Soldiers are cool, too. Keep'm comin
The bad news keeps coming. I'm finally calling it now. PS3 is officially doomed. Sony will give up gaming and focus on their other businesses. I'm not joking.
Geoff's OXM articles always bashed the 360. That's probably why he doesn't work for OXM anymore (since last month). Even during the 360 launch, he was bashing Kameo and PDZ and proclaiming that Black was more next-gen than most 360 games.
Geoff defended Sony up until E3 2006. Even then, he bashed the 360 in OXM (he left OXM last month). For him to say that Sony is losing multi-plats is very telling.
Half-Life 2 had great game mechanics, but it was ultimately boring because it was too serious. It was also a very lonely experience. It felt like a ghost town. Halo may have borrowed from Half-Life 1, but the plot is far superior.
Even if the Elites are being bought by previous owners, then the used console market is being flooded with used 360s. The install base will still increase, regardless.
Expect the 360 to be fully supported, including FFXIII. FFXIII may even be released on "day 1" with the PS3 version.
There is a ton of stuff going on in multi-player. Everything is being recorded for all players in real-time. You can save a replay of the entire battle. MP maps are always of less quality than single-player levels. Don't worry, we have seen the very worst of Halo 3 and it looks great. I fully expect some amazing graphics in SP.
Sony is in big trouble. PS3 owners will be dry for a very long time. At least they'll have Ninja Gaiden Sigma. But this year is getting stronger and stronger for the 360. There are great games that we don't talk about since there are so many. Remember Kingdom Under Fire? That's just one of many 360 exclusives that will fill in any gaps between the huge titles.
Square teases by continually pushing the rumored dates. People will think that this "official" response means Q1 2008. But it won't be released before October 2008.
MGS4 and FFXIII holiday 2008 (if we're lucky).
Those are some lame characters. I was hoping for Ivy or Christie from Soul Calibur and DOA. What about Cortana from Halo?
The PS1 was the best machine at the time. The PS2 was the heavy favorite, standing on the shoulders of PS1. The PS3 was a year late, losing exclusives, and is $200 more than the competition.
Riddick sold ok, but many people passed on it due to the lack of mp. I wouldn't expect more than 16 players since the scale of the maps are small. I wouldn't be surprised if it was limited to 8 players.
(The full word "c-pit" was blocked) They say you can play in c-pit view. The game looks amazing.
How did Kiziko land an interview with David Jaffe? They must have had their number publically listed in a phone book. (I thought David Jaffe was "going dark"?)
Technically, NGB uses less polygons than your average Xbox game. It also uses zero normal maps and lacks realtime shadows. But it is an artistic masterpiece that runs at 60 FPS. Your statement that NGB looks better than 360 games is false on a technical level. It is even more false to saw that God of War 2 looks next-gen. Having said this, the Xbox 1 was incredibly powerful.
