no games
no marketing
limited 3rd party support
too expensive
poor product identity
perceived as last gen technology
hardly any presence in store/shops
...some of these problems can be solved, but some cant.
@PostMesmeric
yes the ps2 was technically inferior to the xbox and still came out on top, but the ps2 had other strengths. it had a very strong brand, already established by the ps1. the marketing power behind the ps3 was also superior to the xbox. also, the ps2 had more support.
with those strengths, the inferior specs were balanced out.
the wiiu doesnt have those same attributes to make up for lack of power. it has to rely almost entirely...
would you buy any electronic goods without knowing the specs? when you buy any electronic goods, dont you want them to be the best spec? why would you want the inferior sounding headphones or the tv with certain inputs/outputs missing and a low resolution picture? when it comes to technology, specs are everything.
which is probably why nintendo hid the specs of wiiu, and the only reason we have any idea what the wiiu is actually 'made of' is because people have torn i...
''Is that a factual statement too?''
only the facts
''Nintendo's handling of the console and the quality of the console itself are two completely different things and you're mixing up the two.''
no, they are the same. nintendo developed the console itself and are the ones handling it. they did both very badly.
first off they recycled old tech, essencially crippling the wiius potential t...
it might not have got the same casual crowd level of sales/success, but it would have won the core gamers and a lot of respect.
nintendo promised the wiiu was a games console for the core gamer, they pitched the wiiu as a serious games console. but launched with nintendoland, follwed by wario game and watch etc.
metroid, f zero and starfox might not be their best sellers, but at least nintendo would be doing their fans a true service.
OH WEL...
its simply a poor attempt at a console by nintendo and they need to get with the program
its incredible just how much the game industry holds consumers in contempt. it now seems acceptable to release broken games and have consumers play the role of games testers.
some films are plain rubbish, but at least they are finished. same with literature, you wouldnt release a book and leave chapters out, or publish it in a way which means you will never actually be able to finish the book.
why is it acceptable in the games industry?
...
its just stale and static.
the n64 only had TWO games on its release, which by todays standard would be horrific. BUT the n64 had mario 64, which was totally worth the £250 asking price for the n64 at the time. it was that good, that important, that innovate.
wiiu has nothing. there is absolutely nothing on wiiu that sparks that same enthusiasm in the consumer.
people are putting their bets on mario 3d world changing that... i really can...

''That's completely subjective and your opinion.''
its a fact, a fact acknowledged by the vast majority of the gaming public who have chosen NOT to buy a wiiu.
if there is any quality, its too limited in quantity to be worthwhile purchasing a wiiu. again, this is not my opinion, but a fact proven by sales. or rather, lack of sales.
nintendo chose to cut quality, scope and integrity of its products, for maximum profit. ie w...
''When was the last time you heard of a Nintendo product being faulty? I've had a NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii and now Wii U and not one of them have had a hardware fault.''
i distinctly remember having to blow inside the NES to make it work. maybe give it a slap once or twice too. also, blowing the cartridges too.
''So much for "cheap hardware/software" huh?''
yes, they use old tech.
...
At the expense of quality? A compete lie. The reason for Nintendo's success is quality. ''
they used to be at the cutting edge. their games used to be right at the forefront of creativity and innovation. nintendo used to be synonymous with quality. those days have gone.
and in its place are half-hearted, empty, cheap hardware/software trying to pass themselves off as the quality products we usually associate with nintendo.
ninte...
'' he's the man who made the Wii, DS and 3DS huge successes''
huge successes at the expense of quality.
''One poorly selling console is not enough to ruin his resume. ''
it is if that poorly selling console is losing the company millions and damaging the companies image. nintendo are the laughing stock of the industry right now.
all i ever hear is this guy admitting his failings. why doesnt he just resign.
this isnt the nintendo i know, and frankly, this isnt the nintendo i like.
he gots to go
the wiiu version is completely FUBAR
yeh, nintendo tried to use the same 'winning' formula it did with the wii, for wiiu. ie offer something unique at a reasonable price. the wii caught fire and was an instant success, but the wiiu was dead on arrival.
by the end of the wiis life, people were disillusioned- the wii wasnt really new at all. it was merely a re-packaged/souped-up Gamecube. add to this sony and microsoft were easily able to mimick the wii with MOVE and KINECT, and the wii was irrelevant.
not many people gave the wii enough credit as a console for gamers. it has a very respectable catalogue of games- once you filter through the tonnes of trash.
i own a wii and a ps3 and for the most part, the wii was being played more. BUT i have not played my wii for over a year now, while i still play the ps3. the ps3 has longer legs than wii. the wii is practically dead and buried now. ps3 lives on. but the wii does have a great legacy.
i think the GCs success only pales in comparison to the popularity of the ps2. wasnt that the best selling console of all time? of course any competition at that time was blown away.
the wiiu is just an outright failure though. it had the entire next gen market to itself for over a year and still didnt capture the gamers imagination. and STILL no games worthy enough for the £200+ asking price.
when ps4 and x1 arrive on the scene, wiiu is going to disap...
handheld market is different to console. sonys mistake is trying to market its handhelds the same way they do its consoles. nintendos mistake with the wiiu is treating it like a handheld.
ie these mini game collections, these pathetic shallow experiences they are trying to sell recently... they work for a handheld. but consoles demand a much more rich experience, they demand more immersion. nobody buys a console for wario game and watch. i wish nintendo would get with the pro...
bit they'l make a game out of it.
mario gets sick of rescuing peach, goes on holiday, and ends up in some other adventure.
you know, just like mario sunshine.
