Microsoft was built upon, and became successful by, making software and then letting hardware vendors do the competition for them. Now, Microsoft is a completely different company in that they have first party hardware to compete with other hardware manufacturers. This is why they were better than Apple for many, many years. I, honestly, don't know why Microsoft didn't stick to their guns.

WiFi direct doesn't really matter for an instance like this if the two devices are on the same network anyway. Xbox One (with added software, of course) could do this without using WiFi direct.

Make sure you get your home internet upgraded in the next two months if you need it. Remember that remote play will make your PS4 run a constant video upload when in use, so make sure you're supplied with ample upload bandwidth. That's the most important part of it all. You can be on Google Fibre and it wont matter if your PS4 at home is on crappy upload.
Within the same network, of course, none of that matters.

I'm lucky as I live in the first time zone in North America. If I go to a midnight launch for PS4, then I'll be one of the first consumers in the world to own one.

Games are the same $59.99 here as they are in the U.S.
Currency has been hovering around $1 to $1 for a while. This works in Canada's favour as the PPP is not one-to-one within the countries. We have an overvaluation, so we're getting a good deal.
The downside is that most Canadian provinces will end up paying a fair percent in taxes.

There are lots of great games on Vita. If you just had the free plus games as well as buying games that go on sale for $5, then you'd have a pretty extensive library already.
