Regardless of platform, raytracing for Global Illumination makes a huge difference on the realism of the overall scene. I forgot they guy wasn't real a couple of times, and he looks better than a lot of movie CG (in terms of animation at least).
Considering what 1 year has done for the 1X over the Pro, there's probably going to be a pretty noticeable difference. When is the PS5 coming out though? What type of CPU/RAM/GPU?
More on topic, when is Cyberpunk coming out? That's what I really care about!
I had the Advantage when I was growing up (still have it, actually!). The adjustable turbo rate was awesome and slow motion was pretty cool on some games too, but this mod is pretty slick!
@ Nyxus
There are other other factors to consider, like the fact that so many people who owned a 360 jumped ship and bought PS4 this generation, or that people who own both consoles bought it on PS4... but it doesn't really make that much of a difference anyways because Software Lover is right about install base being the biggest factor.
To those who disagree with Software Lover it's simple: Twice as many customers, twice the opportunity for a sa...
Talk about being in it for the long haul!
Another typical day at N4G, with all the MS haters clinging to anything they can it order to keep hating. When there's nothing bad actually happening they usually just make stuff up or stray off topic, but they still resort to attacking people they disagree with anyways.
At least you admit that you were implying MS is working towards an always online future and not actually commenting about the subject of the article. If you were making a comment about SoT, an online only multiplayer game, being "the future" then me pointing out Everquest shows you that there isn't anything different about the online requirements of SoT than there was for Everquest. Or COD, Battlefront, or any other multiplayer game. This article isn't about always online...
@ Rain
We're not talking about replacing rasterization entirely, but complimenting it with things like true global illumination. MS designed the XB1 to be able to handle this. They even said the 1X wouldn't be held back by the XB1, and now DXR is going to allow the ESRAM and move engines do what they were designed to do. At least now we know why we haven't seen any of the games use the HW for raytracing yet. No API to support it properly.

@ Rude-Ro & 343
No, Game Pass is $10 a month, and all of MS' games are included plus more than 100 others. SoT is still a $60 game if you want to own it.
They've already said that there will be a steady stream of free content arriving post launch to constantly keep players engaged and that they wanted players to hit max level early on. Said plenty of other stuff about it too. Call it what you want, but they didn't mislead anybody that actually wanted to know about SoT (which is obviously not you).
Um, it's an online only game. Everquest isn't exactly a new game anymore, if you hadn't noticed.
You can be so melodramatic sometimes...
@ Deadly Oreo
Rare even went as far as to run stress tests before the release. They did their best to estimate demand, but the demand for SoT is just huge. Companies misjudge demand for products all the time. MS will shift servers over and everything will be fine soon enough so to me it is acceptable that their servers are overloaded. It's not the same as releasing a game like Just Cause 3, for example, which IS unacceptable...
Whatever though, it ...
Yeah, I'm glad the worst problem they're having is keeping up with demand. Rare is back!
The only time I would consider the XB1 controller to be sub-standard! ;P
Unchaste Farming is soooooo much better. There's hoe's everywhere and you can sow your wild oats anytime you want!!!
XB1 has HW accelerated Raytracing abilities and so does the 1X. They don't need Nvidia cards.
Yeah, they do. I'm hopeful that the things they present this year show initiative; meaning they have a few unexpected debuts and a studio acquisition or two. That and a couple of "predictables" and I'll be good with it.
I'm also hoping that some of the showings use the DRX (Direct X Raytracing) update to DX12 as well (rolling out officially this spring), which will work on either a purely SW or a HW accelerated level. XB1's have the HW to do it....
We need a new Burnout with the original crash mode back in it. The puzzle aspect of vehicle choice, timing, direction, speed, etc. was way better than what it became in Paradise. Mix Paradise and old-school crash mode though and it would be killer!
The Witcher 2 or the first Fable are great choices for many people. I like Forza Horizon as well, but it's more of a niche title being a racing game. I know what you're saying about focusing on this gen but I can't help but think that going back to 360 games that are classics makes sense as well and, honestly, they look surprisingly good too. It's almost like you're playing the PC versions (EDIT: Traumadisaster seems to agree with this too).
What game...
You keep returning to MS related articles. It would be nice if you quit, but I'm sure you'll be returning in the months and years ahead even without anything new to say!
Plenty of people are enjoying SoT and will appreciate the post-launch support Rare is going to provide. Rare told us how they planned to support the game a while ago, so it's not like it's unexpected (unless you just don't care about the game because you hate MS).
