200gb bandwidth is not a bottleneck but its difficulty being programmed is.
Between the dedicated image processors, Data Move Engines, split GPU (two sets of 6cu each with their own command processors), direct link of the CPU to eSRAM, eSRAM api enhancements, and DX12 adding true parallel processing to tie the whole system together, the XB1 is a well balanced machine.
You're thinking about graphics cores, compute units, having two reserved for failures. Cpu cores are all fully functional, but seldom used efficiently on XB1 due to their serialized instruction sets.
As for the DX12 argument, the current level of DX doesn't allow parallel processing and certain gfx features yet. Sony, on the other hand, took Open Gl 4.4 and modified it for close to the metal peformance at launch, providing lower level access than even the upcoming Vu...
@darxyde
What made the PS3 a comprehensive place to play was BC, which they removed from the machine. If playing everything in one place was their goal they wouldn't have removed it from the PS3 (nor abandoned it in the PS4). Their real goal at that time was profits to save Sony's failing brand.
@abzdiine
What a hypocritical load of BS. Way to be, fanboy. To recap, Sony can do it because... Sony. MS can't because everyone who wanted an Xbox already had one. Let's be fair. People will buy an XB1 if there is enough value for them to do so, even if they are PS4 owners. That value can include remasters. It works the same for XB1 owners buying a PS4 to an objective mind though.

@godmars
The system could easily support BC via a streaming function. Put the 360 disc in the XB1 and play from the cloud.
Sony's API is closer to the metal than Vulkan already because of how they've modified Open Gl 4.4. That's why it's forgotten, lol. #FACT.
Just like all the positive feedback of the Kinect/ Kinect 2.0 before it released? Or the move controls? Even Nintendo had to come out with Motion Plus to try to make the Wiimotes work like they promised at launch. Tech demos and impressed press don't always translate the hype to the real world.
Anything that's not natively rendered in 3d becomes immediately obvious when 3d viewing. 2d smoke instead of using a particle system is one example. When every 2d disc of smoke can be seen in 3d space it looks awful, but it looks fine on a 2d tv. Graphics need to look better for VR to work well, not worse.
Isn't this copyright infringement? Nintendo sued Blockbuster around 25 years ago, and won for photocopying manuals to give out with their rentals.
I'm not sure I understand what you're upset about. Your XB1 will be the exact same, performance-wise, as any other XB1 sold later because of updates. You simply paid more to get the system earlier which is normal.
I've heard a DX12 patch is in the works, but it is still a rumor.
@ccgr
It kind of sucks, as a console owner, that cdpr built the game around Nvidia cards, because a lot of the graphics effects don't work nearly as well on AMD hardware. Nvidia cards work much better at tesselation, for example. It's actually strange to me since CDPR was going for parity across all platforms.
I remember getting stuck at the end FF3, the last FF I played, because I chose not to do some of the "optional" side quests. I found out later they had the gear you needed to beat the game. At that point about 60 hours of gameplay was gone, which pissed me off so bad I didn't play another RPG until the original Fable came out. FF3 is probably the worst example of side quests ever because they were actually mandatory. I don't know if that is still true because FF games aren...
To use Far Cry 4 as an example, I think side missions should be more like the Longinus missions which have a story unto themselves. The random "rescue the hostage" missions and stuff gets old and is relatively pointless.
Yes, Doom 3 was a remake of the first Doom. Doom 2 takes place on Earth however, not Mars, so Doom 4 is technically a remake of Doom 2.
On a side note, Rage was not only a graphics experiment, but an experiment in open world gaming for Id. If Doom 4 is able to eliminate the issues that held back Rage from being a huge success, it will be fantastic when it ships.
People have hacked every COD multiplayer experience and it never gets fixed. It's expected at this point. ;D
You can't make a good open world game without being able to tell a good story!
I see. PS4 is using the old PS3 API, which is already closer to the metal than Vulkan, and you believe that when Sony updates its API it will get better? While it will get better, Sony already has both GNM and GNMX tools on the PS4. One gives you greater control than the other, but requires more specialized coding to optimize.
DX12 on the other hand, which IS actually replacing an old API, unlike Sony's updates, gets repeatedly slammed for not being able to improve the X...
Typical Gamingbolt. All the "news" is in the title. Is the dev using DX12 yet? Why does he dodge the question instead of being honest? Stupid clickbait.
@wegetsignalx
It's not hate, it's truth. The AI in GT habitually take the same lines, hardly do anything different from driver to driver, and make almost no attempt to pass each other. They're as predictable as ants following a theramone trail.
It's sad to see you get so defensive over a games' inherent weakness. Maybe GT7 will be better.
There's a difference between a game patched to run DX12 and and an engine built to use the API. Halo 5 will likely be DX12 patched, full DX12 engines will hit by next fall. I expect GOW 4 to be revealed as one of the first full DX12 engines.
