It's not that I love MS... It's that I like Sony less.

Wait... are you suggesting that this should be a shooter? I thought MS had too many of those and not enough adventures, but you appear to be criticizing SoT for being different from most of MS' games. I don't understand.

GTR. No one can claim that all games WILL run at native 4k because the developer has the right to choose ow to use the power of Scorpio. The truth is that any game that runs 1080p on XB1 can, for certain, run at native 4k.

DX12 needed SM6.0 to utilize the tile-based rasterization HW found in both the XB1 and Scorpio, and the HW accelerated TR alone will most likely free up enough resources to get 900p games up to 4k as well. In the OG XB1, the HW accelerators will also a...

Remasters of PS3 games, sure.

Apocalypse, the roles haven't reversed because they both do it all the time. The difference, pertaining to the snap feature specifically, is that MS is replacing it with something that works better than snap did. The reason most people don't like snap, fyi, is that it takes up a lot of screen real estate and makes the game image smaller. PIP is going to fix those issues.

OT: I like how you chose to spin the fact that MS bought shares in Immersion and compensated...

The new pip feature is not only using less resources but also takes up less screen space while offering a similar experience.

Don't worry guys, you'll get to see it eventually. MS has plenty up their sleeves for this year.

I know I shouldn't overthink this, but where is he going to get ammo if gunpowder hasn't been invented yet?

Maybe they've decided to make non-VR games their priority instead? Everyone here agrees that MS could benefit from broadening their traditional games line up. Also, as others have pointed out though, MS said they're still interested in pursuing VR so I'm not sure what the big deal is if you actually care about MS' interest in VR specifically.

Read between the lines.

He's saying that Sony didn't make the Pro contemporary to the current technology available while MS, according to him, has. Makes sense though. The reason is that Sony used old tech when they built PS4 and modified it with a small budget just to go fast with old engines.

MS OTOH, custom built almost everything on the XB1 so it could be full DX12 compatible (which was an anchor for the system to run properly), and Vega is...

I see you're using logic. That doesn't usually work around here but I commend your efforts nonetheless. For the record I agree with you.

Ninsigma, the quote christoculous posted says, "...this year, next year, or the year after". Other quotes from Spencer have him saying that the tech isn't mature enough yet and the games available are still mostly tech demos and shovelware. Both ideas I support.

VR is barely passable from a pure tech standpoint, and developers don't have a clue yet how to make games that take advantage of the unique properties of VR. FOV isn't wide enough, input lag...

Yep. It displays as a small screen roughly the width of the current snap window, which gets overlaid on top of the full screen image of your current activity.

@ Aenea

It was just a random example, but yeah, I doubt many devs would consider using 720p to sparse render to 1440p. I'm pretty sure Quantum break used an odd resolution like 720p and sparse rendered it to 1080p though, but I'm going to have to double check. I'll also look into the information you posted and see what else I can read on the subject. Thanks for the reply though, it was very helpful!

Even the AR/VR exclusives are up for debate. At CES, Oculus announced a new mode for Rift to run on PC's with lower power than the XB1. It is plausable that XB1 will update to run Rift.

How they use the power, as in native 4k vs. checkerboard with better IQ. It doesn't mean Scorpio exclusive and it was said in one breath because it's not a contradictory statement.

3431d ago 2 agree2 disagreeView comment

Kingthrash, MS didn't lie about native 4k on Scorpio. It's impossible to take the information from the white paper and determine that. You're making assumptions. Even the author of the article about the white paper speculates that HW accelerated, tile-based rasterization could make enough of a difference to get to 4k on 900p games. MS allowing checkerboarding doesn't prove your point either because there could be multiple settings, for example: A 4k native setting and a 14...

@ Stuna's edit:

The issue I have here is that games will likely be tailored to the most powerful console and scaled down to the others. Native 4k would therefore be the Scorpio standard, but devs can use checkerboarding if they want to use the power of the console for better effects (like a high IQ 1440p option). Also, MS used checkerboarding on Quantum Break and got raked over the coals for it, right? Given the fact that the Pro was known as PS4k before details were...

It really is a no brainer, and one of the biggest weaknesses MS has. If they wanted to compete better with Sony they would have done this years ago, but I'm still happy with the exclusives MS does support ATM. More diversity can only help MS in the long run.

Still, with the Mech Assault tease from Phil recently I'm excited to think about the potential renaissance of MS with OG reboots/sequels.

That's what happens when the staff goes crazy, I guess.

I was wondering though... Should MS keep bringing up the Scalebound cancellation or simply move on to their other projects? The author makes it seem like MS is trying to hide the fact that the game was cancelled but it's only logical to stop promoting something that no longer exists, at least that's how I see it. Am I missing something here?
