The Beta was pre Cod4 - after that it's just been map packs :)
I suspect it will be much like the PS3's screengrab feature - it's there if devs want you to have it but it would seem most don't.
Features like these should be set to fully work as standard but with the option for devs to disable it as chances are the devs really couldn't care less one way or the other but just won't waste time on additional coding.
And there's not really too many fps alternatives on offer for consoles that offer the content variations and ongoing achievement system - for 99% of them it's like reaching Prestige 1 END.
But on the PC where there's more choice only CoD4 with it's 64 player servers and user mods and maps is still really popular. The later Cod games locked to 18 player have a very poor online population.
Cassettes.. arg!! Had an Atari 800 and didn't take me long to switch to a floppy drive as besides fast loading there was access to fantastic amounts of big disk based games.
Developed my 1st hardware mod for the Atari 8bits to allow an unlimited save game feature for any game - fun days :)
Many singleplayer games use AI players as part of your team or enemy and I see no reason why they couldn't be replaced with real players to add variation.
I love playing Co-op with some of my favourite experiences being with Command & Conquer and Quake games. I can't think of 1 singleplayer game where I wouldn't have also enjoyed playing it in co-op with a friend too.
So, should all games be multiplayer? well it rather depends on the multiplayer format they'...
While I accept memory limitations on the PS3 means either small maps with decent graphics or large maps with over compressed graphics I won't be bothering with future CoD titles if map complexity and size stays much the same on the PS4
I see no reason why it couldn't be a 1st person platform game of which the majority never fire at anything.
......
There were a few on the Atari 800 so not a new concept.
Do we need another map pack repackaged as a full game?
I suppose it depends on the percentage of gamers that decide to stick with PS3 rather than upgrade.
Personally I intend to upgrade once there's a decent amount of games like a GT6 etc are available.
On the other hand I'm not going to shell out lots more cash on PS3 games and certainly wouldn't buy GT6 for PS3 at that point as I wouldn't get enough enjoyment time out of it compared to GT5 which will be been 3 yrs by Nov '13.
I'd really like to race on some of the old tracks like Brooklands and Monza Speed circuit.
F1 historical racing series would be a lot of fun starting at 1946 with all the tracks and cars.
Well if 2nd hand games are being effectively banned then better carry on to keep things all equal... No more 2nd hand cars, houses, books ..... NO MORE EBAY!
After all, the original building company doesn't make a profit when you sell your house.
What this shows is why the locked down digital market is so flawed as it completely breaks the free market economy we live in.
Looking at prices of even new digital distributed titles demonstrates that fa...
Don't disagree but some of the root issues are with the console controller. There needs to be proper support for mouse/trackball/touchpad & keyboard to allow for more strategy games like Command & Conquer series as well a opening up to a wider range of fps games such as the much faster "twitch" fps games.
What if the PS4 is black like the PS3?
Will ppl get confused when upgrading and buy another PS3 by accident!
No cockpit view, no pitstops, no tire wear, no refuelling, no rain, no Destruction Derby...
BUT... there is the "lets really hype about a fantastic new mode" async racing where can race on your own and get your laptime on the leaderboard - known in ever other racing game as Time Trial!!
And all this is because they took note of their customer base!!!
These days I find my PS3 Slim freezes / locks up far far more than my PC does. Now that's not to say it was always the case but I feel that the PC drivers have matured a lot.
Then there's the argument of cost; well I'm on my 2nd PS3 but my PC has remained much the same when put together some 5 years ago (3Ghz dual Core/8800GT512/4GB ram) and while I can't play some new games with all the visual features on there's not one game that doesn't look far better than ...
No rain no night racing, no pitstops, no fuel and tire wear instead concentrating highest score singleplayer online Racenet games.
And this all came about because they listened to their customer base!!
I don't want "intensely social" I'm happy playing 16 - 21 cars on track competing with friends etc
Gamers have always wanted to compete with gamers but as there was no options for online gaming early on there was "highest score" gaming and even 16 player "all sharing the joystick" gaming (ie. Return of the Heracles 1981/2). Later came lan gaming till eventually there was online gaming.
Following in the footsteps of the bankers, win get bonuses, fail still get big bonuses but fire staff!!
I'm not surprised as they keep trying to charge far more than the going rates for mobile games.
If iPhone games are typically £0.69p to £1.29 then you're not going to sell loads like Angry Birds etc etc by charging £4.99
It doesn't help them that while with consoles it's all very controlled and there's very few new titles each month so they can hike the prices but on iTunes etc there's absolutely loads of choice (I bet they loath...
Lan weekends with Quake! We'd take it in turns to drag our PC's to a friends house for weekends of endless fun fragging:)
Q3a and especially UT99 took fps to a new level with game modes, options, integrated IRC, and the huge amount of maps and mod content.
The one thing that stands out compared to todays fps games is just how much of the map is now made up of 2D drawings as opposed to usable objects. i.e. current maps can look fantastic and seem like they have lots of ...
