I'm a grown up with disposable income. I can afford TV boxsets. I do not buy TV box sets, I subscribe to Netflix.
Game Pass is for people like me too.
They have literally said the next gears, halo, and forza games will go straight onto the game pass. It was in the original announcement.
"This plan to bring new games timed with their global release into Xbox Game Pass not only includes announced titles like Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, and Crackdown 3 but future unannounced games from Microsoft Studios including new iterations of our biggest Xbox One exclusive franchises such as Halo, Forza and Gears of War, on ...
@Brian I agree with most of what you said, but "single player games" are a lot like your Netflix movie in terms of the way people consume content. There is no reason they can't be part of a subscription service. In fact episodic single player games would be fairly ideal.
Have you actually done any math yourself? You'd need to use some massively skewed numbers to come up with a scenario where these subscription models are not good value.
It'll be great for short-lived single player games. It solves the problem the second hand/lending/not-paying market.
Uptownsoul, that's true about all Microsoft's future releases. However, the Game Pass also includes about 100 other games (at a time) that are not crossbuy, which is a big chunk of extra value for people with the console.
Exactly. Even the fringe benefits of the service are enough to justify the price. That speaks volumes about how good the game pass is for Xbox owners, where so many more games are included in the same price.
Hopefully the PC offering will grow over time as well.
Niiiice. It already works, but I think this is the first time they've given an official position on it.
STFU Septic.
It'd make sense for the existing catalogue to go on. Hopefully this is just a period of reasonable notice, so that players who bought things like Forza in the last few weeks won't feel too hard done by...
Why do you think single player games can't exist and thrive on a subscription service?
This also makes it much easier to switch platform, not harder. What is there to stop you?
And why do you think single player games can't exist on a service like this?
So... We're not doooooooomed? That's good news.
Hopefully someone else will be offering a similarly good value subscription that I can jump on when Microsoft do that Zune thing.
Disagree. This will syphon money back out of the retail channel and second hand markets, and dramatically reduce the risks associated with big budget games that may not sell to expectations. If the service gets big then it'll revolutionise development and funding for the better.
Your scaremongering doesn't actually have much basis at all. It isn't completely outside the realms of possibility that Microsoft will look to include or even increase microtransactions,...
Disagree. I think single player, narrative-driven games are perfectly suited to a model like this. Perhaps even more so than any other type of game, as they suffer the ravages of the second hand market more than other types of game.
We're doooooomed!
But we're gonna get to play loads of games for a very reasonable price on our way out :)
Oh it'll definitely impact sales. I don't really see how you can come to any other conclusion.
Increased game pass subscriptions, decreased game sales. There is a whole lot more to it, but that much seems pretty clear.
Great for the consumer... Hey, I'm one of those! Sounds good!
#ForThePlayers #DumbestIdeaEver
@Below that sounds very adult indeed. However, I can sever heads in real life any time I want but I can't be a pirate. I get sea sick :(
Sea of Thieves requires multiplayer, but I don't think that's true of every other game? It applies just the same to people buying discs.
It would be nice if Microsoft ditched Gold though, I'm sure we can all agree on that!
Sea of Feves?
State of... France?
I like Netflix and Spotify, and find both services are rich with quality content. I certainly wouldn't want to go back to older distribution models.
What lesson did you learn from them?
