"Lipstick on a pig" kind of comment there... I want to be excited for DA4 but how can we when there still isn't real gameplay for it, and their last game Anthem is getting rebuilt and that too still doesn't have any update? If it's cancelled, that spells even worse for DA4
Game-less Special Editions with the game's Steelbook case. That's a double-middle finger - one to you and the other at your shelf
This is a port of a last gen game to an updated engine optimized for current gen with clearly-current-gen features like Ray Tracing. And it takes advantage of Sony's new tech.
Yes, Sony's drive is smaller, but this makes that matter quite a bit less. If Microsoft has an equivalent feature, it's either not as good or they've really gotta update those tools...
"I can't think of any games off the top of my head where the resolution didn't take some sort of hit going from the dock to the handheld."
When the screen maxes out at 720p... Gee I wonder why?
Nintendo themselves don't have a precedent cutting framerate on Switch between modes. This happening, for Mario of all titles, where Odyssey (and MK8 and Smash and Luigi's Mansion and oh so many more) run at a smooth 60fps on handheld with...
The Series S is a fantastic second console too. I've got it alongside my PS5 to play mainly just Halo, a BC title here or there, and the occasional Game Pass drop (Hivebusters, Call of the Sea, next on the list is The Medium).
And Series S didn't hold back Bloober with Medium. It cuts to sub-HD resolution at moments and disables RT (the compromises), but still can instantly flicker between the two versions of their world (dat next-gen-only kinda thing).
Shadow, don't buy into that yet. No credible developer has given any kind of specific example of how S will hold back X or PS5.
And this developer, btw, is making a cross-gen game. So he can't even give an honest opinion yet on what it's really like building for next-gen only. On top of that, it's even more absurd when this dev has released every game of theirs on the PC.
Easily, and with only two different devices released. 3DS family had five!
Exactly zero graphics chips producers are able to keep up with demand right now. AMD can't even manufacture enough of their own RDNA2 chips for their own cards, they have Microsoft also biting at the same chips, and Sony with their RDNA# custom chips. Nvidia's 30-series still seems to only exist if you're a scalper.
World-wide sellouts on GPUs across-the-board + historically weaker Xbox sales + historically stronger PS sales... It writes itself.
Did anyone think this game was going to be a 9? ABizzel hits the nail on the head
Control was a contender for many GOTY awards in 2019, and it was GOTY for both IGN and Official PlayStation Magazine...
It's very resource intensive. Physics & particle effects are top notch and the game is filled with reflective surfaces everywhere.
Ryzen 7 3700X and RTX 2070 Super on my PC - 1220p30 seems pretty fair for these consoles without anything like DLSS.
The scales gotta be balanced on things like this. Other publishers pull this shady kind of dealing and they're called out, Sony should be too.
The Challenge Series was referenced before as a game mode, and now we know it's a premium game mode behind an in-game currency only earned through real-world money, a week or two before release where there will be people spending $70 on a "free" title but even they still have to pay more to get the full experience.....
"Criticizing"... Whatever you wanna call it. I guess you don't need to worry about average games and their average reviews, either, but here we are.
Ok. So Metacritic is only relevant to troll with for average games that get average ratings when those average games are on Xbox, then?
Goalpost set, stupidity remains.
Ghost of Tsushima is an 83 on Metacritic, but is one of the best games last year. This here is a game from a typically-average studio. Don't forget that Metacritic also has Gears 5 on Xbox at 84... so it must be better than Ghost right?
< See how stupid that is. Don't we hate them, because publishers unfairly tie bonuses to arbitrary percentages influenced by reviewers with agendas? Or... do we like them when games on Xbox score less than PS games? Or we ignore t...
What kind of marketer hypes a product saying it's gonna be a 7?
From the reviews, it seems to be a decent title. Maybe not the best, but a 90+ from this studio isn't expected - they've routinely put out average ish titles.
PlayStation gamers seem to care so much about what Xbox gamers don't. Why does that bother you?
The top 3 are all making money doing very different things for gaming and the competition is keeping them all in check. Why be negative, don't you have an exclusive to go play or something?
We'll find out soon enough if rendering two worlds at once really is interesting.
Personally, I'd rather hold a trigger or button to show the alternate reality full-screen, instead of cutting my screen in half. But hey, this weekend I'll get to try it out on the Series S on a big 4K OLED in 1080p30fps, yippee.
Allowing handheld users to choose between touch screen or motion controls would've been the best compromise, and would actually make sense. The levels with the blue pulley stars flat out suck playing in handheld mode.
He had an interview with Digital Foundry for Will of the Wisps where he expressed his and the team's disappointment with how it launched.
It's a vastly different reaction to, for example, the CEO of CDPR liking then unliking Tweets slamming Sony for pulling the game after they themselves directed users to Sony for wanting refunds on their deliberately-unfinished product...
