RROD didn't kill the 360 and a firmware 'malfunction' isn't about to kill the PS3 either. Yes, I'm sure Microsoft still has hope for some marginal gains in Japan. I'm sure sales will pick up a bit when some of the 360's upcoming RPG's are released. Star Ocean has the best chance at making a difference. How much penetration that game will create for the console is a bit difficult to estimate though. They currently do well enough in other regions for it not to matter so much. Later on it may prove to be more of a thorn for them, but right now it doesn't make a huge difference.
There are more PS3 fanboys on this site than 360. And some of those who commented may or may not be PS3 fanboys... but honestly I don't think being a fanboy completely discredits your opinion on everything. Even being a fan of the first two games I can't see how anyone would think this is a good idea. Action figures are one thing. They're not "news". It's once again nothing but a highly opinionated article... and not even an interesting one at that. I hate articles like this that seem to hold 'features' above all else when it comes to gaming and no mention of actual games. That should be the biggest reason to own one console over another.
Like others have already said... if you can afford both then you should have both (granted there are games on each side that interest you).
But I really wish Bungie would try to establish a new IP. I understand the Halo franchise sells millions and it's basically what propelled the original xbox into popularity... but I wanna see what else this team can do. And before someone interjects with an MGS4 comment... yes, I also think Kojima should move on to something new as well. Not that I'd mind seeing another Metal Gear game either.

Well I certainly don't agree that single-player games are 'on the way out', but more user generated content for consoles is a very good thing. I'm unsure whether games like Little Big Planet can achieve a certain level of mass appeal... but it's very intriguing and I hope we see more games going that route.
