1000usd is too much, to run Skyrim Maxed out you could easily build one under 600usd.
Personally i think Consoles going 100% digital would be a very bad idea. Reason being console and PC markets are different.
On the PC you have so many networks competing, you got Steam, D2D, Origin, Gamersgate, GFWL all of them competing over one platform, this also helps to create a competitive environment. Competitive environments tend to push prices lower, as can be seen on constant sales and low prices on these networks. AAA games are sold at very cheap prices few weeks...
With how popular online passes are becoming, dont think console gamers will be trading too much either.
Good riddance, PC gamers arent like console gamers to buy the same game year on year.
@STU888
The PC i built in 2006 with a 8800GTX cost me about 1000usd, PS3 at that time cost 600usd. hence the difference is 400usd. Not much considering the PC does alot more then the PS3 can.
Of course a PC equipped with a 8800GTX will handily beat both the consoles even today. 8800GTX did support DX10, this just shows you arent aware about PC gaming as you dont have a clue about the hardware.
Now consider every game bougt on that PC is cheap...
64 man battles, Vehicles, Destruction, awesome graphics on BF3 hell yea.
So far on Steam Skyim has been topping the charts. I think COD has been getting less and less attention from the PC community.
On console however since casuals far out number the core gamer things are different. More and more casuals are buying COD, which is leading to new record breaks.
Casuals mostly only listen to TV adds, Radio or maybe posters. When they are told a game like COD has next gen graphics and awesome game play, they believe what they hea...
Just yesterday on the Radio the DJ was talking about MW3, telling everyone how great it is and how well its selling. I couldnt help but laugh at all the casuals this would be sucking in. The DJ went on about how awesome the games graphics are made me almost want to puke lol.
@dragonknight
I personally built a PC around the time PS3 came out, I equipped with a dual core cpu and a 8800gtx, Guess what it played most of its games in 1080p. Till date it still plays most of its game in 1080p, till date the same games on console are mostly limited to 720p or below, that pisses all over your upgrade myth. Sure if you need new features like DX11 you are going to need to upgrade the GPU.
However overall due to cheaper prices of games PC ga...
@lifesanrpg
Go ahead play a game like BF3 on the PC and you will get a glimpse of what consoles might have next gen.
BF3 is a genere defining game specially as long as multiplayer is concerned, nothing comes close to it this gen, Except maybe Arma 2 but thats a simulator.
Hell about every multiplat out today looks about a gen ahead on the PC, you dont have to limit yourself by waiting, whats more every game out can be had cheaper. Making PC ...
@army_of_darkness
Thats because chartz for kids doesnt track digital sales.
Just yesterday about 300,000 concurrent users were online on Steam playing Skyrim.
You do realise alot more copies then 300,000 would have to be sold on PC for that many users to be playing at that time, maybe in the number of 4-5 times more, since everyone doesnt play at the same time.
Also realise since PC sales are digital they are also more profit...
Lol good catch if they gave BF3 a 6.5, then they should have given COD a 2 tops.
Agreed specially the game is so well optimized. Entry level hardware runs the game at 1080p 60fps with mid to high settings. With all thats going on with 64 players thats a feat in itself.
I think 6.5 score is too harsh on the game. Specially with 64 player battles, dedicated servers etc. When a game like COD, which has been endlessly rehashed gets 9.5's across the board.
Imo BF3 is probably the FPS of the generation specially for MP. I would give the game atleast a 9.
Umm.. PC gaming passed them back in 2006, Xbox 360 was a bit competitive when it launched. By the time PS3 launched, 8800GTX launched too. 8800GTX left both of them in the dust, till this day dominates both of them in any game released.
I am currently looking for a good 3D monitor, i hear Asus makes some pretty dam good ones.
Very well optimized game that runs at 60fps / 1080p easy. Certainly a step forward for the genre in this generation. Cant wait to experience this in 3D soon.
@below
I wasnt talking about any console version. Console versions dont have 3D either.
You need to replace that console very 3-4 years too, its not like it lasts 10 years, consoles do tend to fail 3-4 years into their life cycle, when the same thing happens to a PC, the part that went bad just needs to be replaced.
Games bought are much cheaper on PC.
I bought BF3 at launch at 38usd. I can currently preorder Assassins creed revelations at 35usd.
Bottom line is PC games are a lot cheaper then console counter parts. Even if ever...
Well both the consoles are old, PC should be considered lead platform if we are to see any progress.
Yes it isnt, this is what tomshardware had to say about the game:
"The good news is that you don’t need an uber-rig to enjoy the game. A 2.5+ GHz Phenom II matched up to a Radeon HD 5770 or GeForce GTX 550 Ti is enough to enjoy at least 40 FPS using high-quality details at 1080p, even with FXAA enabled to help smooth out the bothersome aliasing artifacts. That’s a reasonable requirement that probably won't necessitate many upgrades. Best of all, the result looks al...
