Contrary to popular belief the hardware is not that much stronger. It's just easier to squeeze power out of it and having unified memory makes that easier.
The xbox has it's weird esram bottleneck to sort out and the ps4 has it's CPU bottleneck to sort out. That means it makes resolution harder to hit on x1 but things like AI/physics get squeezed on the ps4. Suckerpunch said this very same thing when developing infamous.
Yup. "Massive graphical power differences" in ps4/x1. I think the fanboys mistook their ps4s for pc's.
i thought infamous was pretty but ultimately kind of a mild let down. i liked it, but for all the hype it didn't blow me away as much as i thought it would.
titanfall is certainly not as pretty as infamous, but damn. its awesome. i have a feeling ps4 fanboys will stop talking shit about it if it releases on that platform and they actually get a real taste of it.
@gary_m:
the xbox is crashing and burning?? its been a pretty good success. its not selling as well as the ps4 but its hardly been a failure. its been one of the most successful console launches to date. sure it needs to turn things around compared to the ps4 but in North America its not really that far behind. it certainly isn't a failure.
"massive graphical power advantages of the PS4"?? i have a ps4. and an x1. the graphical differences...
pretty much. which is cool but its also kind of annoying that you will have to pay to play games you already paid for if you want to play them on ps4. i guess some option is better than no option though if you want to continue with those games on ps4.
pretty sure the ps4 has enough power to emulate the ps3 though... which would have been better... and cheaper in the long run. even if it bumped the price of the console $50 or so.
on paper ps now is brilliant. i would like to see it in real life. what the costs are, what kind of bandwidth requirements are needed, streaming quality, latency etc. if they can nail a mostly transparent experience for a decent price then i will be impressed.
the biggest gripes about the OnLive streaming services were lag and image quality so hopefully sony has injected some slick voodoo into their version.
thats actually a brilliant idea. unfortunately it would probably require some form of DRM which is a bad word around here. i would love to see something like that though.
only on this site do the comments start to focus on the xbox when the article is about ps4/ps3 compatibility and how someone didn't like it. fucking children.
nobody got backwards compatibility. lets all agree on that.
"BUT BUT... ps4 got no backwards compatibility better..." "nuh uh. xbox did!" *and then* "i have a pc and it plays all the ps3 and 360 games at 4k 200 fps!" "xbox sucks" "ps4 sucks" disa...
i definitely hear what you are saying and agree, but 16x16 textures would be really soft at close range if they were actually that low (due to the scale and antialiasing on such clean straight lines). the strategy would be to do high rez textures that look like they are lo fi. that way the edges of the blockiness stay crisp... or have the shader generated procedurally somehow so no textures at all are used.
i would have bought it with the kinect regardless so this doesn't bother me at all.
The world doesn't operate in absolutes. You have to give customers what they want. If you don't, they won't buy your products and assume your company are dicks (case in point here). However if you rollover and don't guide them to an innovative future you become stagnant or your mission objective becomes diluted. People asked for a kinectless xbox and ms, behind in sales needed to listen - especially considering that statistics show price and perceived value are the biggest dri...
It's like watching politics. You just can't win.
Profit and market share are the number one goal for just about any company. Look how shitty of a time sony is having without profit. Talent leaving, less money for r and d, game development, layoffs.... The game division is practically holding the rest of the company up. That isn't encouraging considering how big the company is as a whole.
Nobody likes to get raked over the coals when they buy something but companies operating on little profit and razor thin margins don...
You're damned if you do,, damned if you don't. People bitched about the kinect being mandatory so they came up with an option with out it. Now that they give you a choice they are spineless? To me it seems they are just listening to the gamers (finally) and giving them what they wanted to get more sales and be more competitive. You can still buy it bundled. If people really want the kinect then they will continue to buy it bundled. If they don't, then it's clear what the righ...
i think for me its more that i have a hard time playing old games when new games are constantly coming out. when i play infamous on ps4, the older infamous on ps3 suddenly feels really crappy in comparison.
you missed the point completely.
agreed. i don't have to go to the store. i don't have to worry about it being in stock or reserving a copy. i don't have discs to lose or scratch. i don't even have to get up to swap games. i've been waiting for this for years and its everything i hoped it would be.... except maybe they could cut me a little break on the price since im not taking any packaging or manufacturing.
they said the same thing about cd's when digital music sales were newer and digital video when bluray was new.
am i the only one that thinks this is kind of a scam? on the one hand i totally see whats cool about it - dare i say even i am looking forward to having gt6 (assuming its available and the price is right). On the otherhand though, I have to pay money for games i already paid for on the ps3 just to be able to play them without the ps3.... and also.. ps3 games. i had 7 years with those games. i dunno. i'm sure i'll get disagreed to death because im missing a bigger point. - unless ...
Clearly you have your own fanboy glasses on. I also think the x1 looks better in these screens, but also it's a crap comparison because it probably comes down to how the stills were output and compressed.
