I couldn't agree with her comments more.

I personally feel games can go beyond that of the cinema and deliver an experience that is totally unique. In games I am not a casual observer of the events taking shape, I am a part of the world and it's events.

I don't believe that all games in this interactive medium have to have complex and deep stories. Most movies and books are enjoyable without meeting this criteria. Still I agree that games ha...

I am very happy it found a publisher for a western release. However, I still havn't heard any new info on the game for about a year.

It would be nice to see some updated info.

This may sound a bit fickle of me, but when/if this game comes to western territories I hope that it has Japanese audio.

If the NA version of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood can have 4 seperate languages then JRPG's can find room for both English and Japanese audio. I'm suprised it isn't more standard.

@tunaks1

Why do games have to be fun? What obligates this medium to envoke a sense of joy?

That is a one-dimentional view of what this medium is.

Movies were a luxory of entertainment too, yet I don't see people saying that they should be more light hearted. That movies should be there only to tell silly stories and make us laugh.

There were writers, directors, and visionary producers that pushed the medium of m...

I have to say, I feel that is a very close minded attitude towards the game.

This game was not only supposed to be a shooter. It was supposed to be a shooter based on recent world events. To give people an insight to the horror of those 6 days and what those solders went throught.

I'm glad the game is still in motion and hope they find a publisher that has the balls to stand by and defend the product. As well as I hope they didn't alter their...

Well this article certainly explains why the author is writing about games instead of designing them.

This person has a rather simplistic sense of basic design and design philosophy within video games. His position on the distinction of "rights" and "privileges" is also warped.

I'm not going to deny that World of Warcraft has issues in terms of programming. This is a very large game with millions of people constantly playing it. ...

I do certainly hope it's an older code for the Ps3 beta of Mass Effect 2.

I had several minor issues with the demo such as choppy cutscenes as well as blaintent game pause when pre-loading areas (that or checkpoints). Also had a few issues with clipping, but those were more rare than the previous 2.

I think I had a sound issue or 2 as well. I played a female shepard and could have sworn I heard male shepard sound clips spring during combat. *shrug*...

I'm not sure I can find the authors point, or even his complaint.

He even goes on to contradict himself a bit when he mentions that meeting people that have the same play time as yourself that can get the job done is a perk for him, yet he goes on to slam then dungeon finder. He states that throwing random people together for a single dungeon, people that you would never see again. Wait. So apparently the dungeon finder doesn't allow you friend people you pug&#...

I think that sex and sexuality needs to be treated with more responsibility and maturity in games.

As of now, the normal is boobs for the sake of boobs, sex for the sake of sex. Sexuality (note: Sexuality. Not Sex. there is a difference.) can be a powerful character trait and give depth were there would otherwise be none.

However, as long as developers keep just flashing boobs and barely dressed women around I doupt we will see an end to the critisism....

I'm not really sure how Section 8 pushed new ideas into the FPS genre.

I am pleased to see that they are lowering the cost of the game considerably compared to most new releases. Also glad to hear they are pushing for a simultaneous release across all 3 platforms.

Umn. No.

Let me clarify that. Yes, in terms of the shooter being a emotional release. Shooters do have an accessibility to them just like normal guns. You point at what you want dead and you pull the trigger. There is something invigorating about that, something empowering. I have no doubt shooters hit a psychological response within the human mind. Though what about brawlers like God of War? God of War has violence on a much higher scale than any shooter I've se...

Giving an opinion is one thing.

However, if you are going to give an opinion that counters that of a popular view, you should really state your point fully.

You think the story line is crappy. Why? Is it because of the characters? Pacing? Narrative? The way the characters interact with the world around them? Context? Explaining these things will better support your opinion and make you seem like an adult who's words are worth reading, and not a 4 y...

Readies the, "Like God of War, but..." stamp.

Dante's Inferno
Darksiders
Castlevania

Now possibly, Thor. This is getting tiring.

Honestly though, real game journalists have a hard enough time getting any info at all from game developers because devs are afraid of things like this happening.

Most info is realesed with an eye-dropper and more and more devs are starting to show game updates and tests behind closed doors after the viewers have signed wave after wave of "keep your mouth shut" forms.

These kind of stunts hurt everyone. If these individuals arn't slapped ...

Perciverance really.

This mission had much more to do with luck than skill. The luck your team would shoot at the right people at the right time. The luck that the enemies wouldn't have 100% accuracy and target only you.

The only things you really have control over are knifing the guy in the beginning, where you threw your flash bangs, and popping the dudes head at the end. The rest is pretty much luck. Least it is on Vet.

The issue with writing in video games is the order of proccess's that happen.

Often the writer isn't brought in until after production on the technical side is nearly complete. When the writer is finally applied to production he has a very limited time to write a complete narrotive for the game.

Games like Mass Effect or Metal Gear Solid have the writing first and then the game is built around that rather than the writing built around the game....

Yes those other medias do have those but the medium themselves are already established and respected by the common consumer.

People know better when it comes to Books and Movies. Video games havn't earned the respect of the common mind just yet, and currently we are being defined and labeled by people that don't know any better. People that would soon confine public view of video games as mind currupting garbage with no redeeming value.

People...

Just seeing the blurb not so sure I can trust the artical. So many lefted hand slaps to Move's face as well as things that really don't need to be said.

Comparing Kinect to Move numbers? Undermining Sony's Move's numbers and user base by suggesting that the recorded sales numbers for Move are do to people picking up more than one controller?

Why should I trust what this site has to say when they can't drop the bias for 2 bloody secon...

I agree. Game's don't always have to be fun.

Look at the history of such expressive mediums, like movies. Movies for a time were supposed to be pure entertainment, we all know that is hardly the case. Some movies are comedies, romances, moral based, or historic.

How about comic books? Once purely sold to kids they have since evolved into Graphic Novels and no longer have the obligation to be light hearted or humorous.

Th...

Developers that endorse and promote this sort of thing arn't doing the medium of gaming any favors.

We are trying to show that games are on the same field as books and movies as a form of not only entertainment but story telling and provoking deep emotional responsises in ways that books and movies can't.

Things like sex fueled games are only going to further convince non-gamers that our medium is a childish, mindless waist of time that is damagin...
