I disagree with the assumption the article is making.

Sony projected their sales of the console low to be realistic. They will be launching a new console later this year, and it will compete with the PSVita for sales this holiday season. The PSP is also at the very end of it's life cycle while the Vita is still in the early years, sales are normally low on both ends. It's really no surprise given the evidence why Sony would be realistic with their expected sale...

I agree, they do need a great demo of this game. However, there is so much riding on Insomniac creating the correct demo.

The last good demo I've experienced was Soul Sacrifice for the PSVita. It was the entire first chapter of the game; allowed me to toy, play, and customize aspects, and it cut off at the right moment with story and abilities leaving me hungry for more. It was a great demo.

In order for this demo to sway those on the fence, it c...

I'd hate to play devil's advocate, but look at phones. A phone was meant to make phone calls. Now technology has elevated the personal phone to include texting, internet, and hundreds of separate applications. Is the principle of a phone today to make phone calls? I wouldn't gather it from sales pitches where cell companies advertise the speed of data transfer over the ability to make a phone call.

I only bring it up because it's natural for technologie...

The reasons for challenging Gearbox and Sega with a lawsuits are valid in this case. The demo publicized is radically different to what is seen in the retail version. If you listen to the commentary of Gearbox over the demo, it's incredibility misleading. The commentator spoke as if he was playing the game, he also said, “..that is a quick taste of Aliens: Colonial Marines,” not only misleading but a genuine sales pitch.

The differences between the demo and retail...

"...aiming to offer 'something fresh' among a 'sea of sequels'"

That's what he's aiming for--EA keeps moving the target, however.

Tomb Raider 2013 didn't sell 3.4 million copies. The number referenced was Square Enix's expected shipping. They were hoping the game would ship 3.4 million units.

In truth, the game shipped far less than these unreasonable expectations. If they shipped far less than expected, then they sold far less than expected.

Had the game actually sold 3.4 million copies in a month, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Thanks for your comment. After reading the only thing changed was the placing of health and magic orbs after each section, I was a bit curious to the backlash. Nothing, as far as I know, requires you to get the orbs before moving on. You can easily beat it as it was before.

This article was very bias in it's tone over the change. Underhanded language, a condescending attitude, and the title. It could just as easily been, “God of War's difficulty gets fine tun...

Incorrect. The game by itself is art. A trophy or achievement is a reward given to the player for completing various aspects of the game. While it's true these trophies are contextually linked to tasks in the game, they are not a part of the base experience. If trophies were to be removed, the experience of the game remains the same, while the experience of collecting the trophies would be absent. They are two different things.

In the case with God of War; the ...

Are you suggesting women can not or could not be a part of the “core” audience? Are you also implying men can not or could not be part of the “casual” crowd?
The idea of “core” being synonymous with “male” is a misguided one not only for companies like Sony, but for the gaming community as well. Same is true for the concept of “casual” being synonymous with “women.” It's doing far more harm than good.

I know this is a very late reply so forgive me.

Asking them not to say the murder's name or the number of casualties isn't burying your head in the sand, it's asking a bit of dignity from the media to not sensationalize the events of that day into another tragedy.

My comments where not of hate toward Kotaku if that was your assumption. My comments were of disappointment. Disappointment that Kotaku would rather add to the overall problem ...

Kotaku,

You mentioned the casualty count. You mentioned that coward's name. Then you stir up rubbish for the sake of it.

Bad form, kotaku. Truly bad form.

This will mark the first time that Kingdom Hearts has appeared on a non hand-held console since this generation began. I have a feeling that not only is Square Enix going for a quick bit of revenue gain with this and subsequent collections, but they might be testing the waters for the franchise on home consoles to see if that could be a potential investment for them in the future.

Seven years without a brand new game in the market of home consoles could have Square Enix ...

My guess on the digital version staying at full price for much longer is due to limited retail space at those brick and mortar stores.

When these stores buy their copies they do it at a reduced price from $60US(NA) most likely around 20-$35 a copy of the game. They buy enough to satisfy pre-orders to max profits and a couple to throw on the shelves. Time goes on, new games are released, and demand of the older games fade. So they drop the price from $60 to $40 to move ...

I feel I must argue a point. While I would definitely consider the video game industry of today a “boys club”, the gaming industry didn't begin by exclusively targeting males over females. The beginning was very unisex. Pong, one of the first games to spark the industry, was played by women and men. As were many of the old arcade games such as Pacman. The reason for it's transition into a “boys club” is the same reason girls drop from sports around the teen age. Society expects ...

To be fair, the reason why a Final Mix version even exists is because certain things were available in the NA version but not the original JP version. Things like the Ice Titan fight, the Sephiroth fight, and the secret movie at the end.

So they re-released KH in Japan with these things and a bit extra on top of that. After that, it might not have been worth it financially to re-release the Final Mix version in NA.

I have to agree with this comment as I've pondered the same thing myself. If a specific demographic is looking to be treated as equals to the existing demographic, they why do you create a label for yourself thereby separating you from the group you wish to be a part of? To me you are not a “girl gamer” you are a gamer that is female. I know that certain male gamers make it very difficult for female gamers to be who they are. The industry as whole is also having a hard time accepting ...

World of Warcraft is 7 years (or so) old and still has 10 million or so subscribers. It has generated billions of dollars of income for it's company and continues to do so. Calling WoW a success would be damning with feint praise.

Massive-multiplayer-online games are an incredible task to produce. The average MMORPG costs around 60 Million dollars to fund and 4+ years to develop. You don't throw down that much money over that long a time unless you know there ...

@ Cone, above.

Since for some reason N4G will not let me post a direct reply.

All PS3 models, "fat" and "slim", are capable of playing PS1 disc's. Only PS2 backwards compatibility was removed during the transition from "fat" to "slim" models.

In a recent developer interview it was made known that the machines used for the trails of Planetside 2 at E3 were using high-end PC hardware. They also informed the viewers that they are doing all they can to allow for compatibility with a wide range of settings and hardware. I'm sure they will release more information as the Beta gets going and they can start to test a wide range of user builds.

I'm afraid I'll have to wait and see if the HD versions of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 are the Final Mix editions never seen in the NA territory. Only then will I personally be excited. That is, if this information turns out to be true.
