We're going plainly off the assumption that IF NX fails. Those saying it's going to succeed aren't strictly going by the one scenario the article/headliner is asking.
So let's pretend it does fail, to which I honestly don't know what Nintendo would do. Nintendo won't die, but their stocks will plummet and investors would be hard pressed to back them, aka, all that money goes out the window resulting in less output (games) and marketing. 3rd party IS a ...
Huh, they're coming out this year...Reality check, games take time to make. Also Sony supported Ps3 up till its last year before PS4 release, using 1st party studios, thus it should be NO SURPRISE that Sony's 1st party studio's are taking a wee bit longer to push stuff out.
Don't act like Microsoft's 1st parties have been front and center, Gears doesn't come out till late this year. Sony has about the same 1st party releases as Microsoft, if not more. ...
I don't follow nor believe the statements that Microsoft will kick out a console BEFORE Playstation, in the sense of a year(s) apart or even more than 4 months.
For one, Xbone ISN'T Wii U, it still makes profit (software/Services), and people still say good things about their games enough that's it's perfectly fine to continue things as is. "Xbox" lost back when it launched to PS2(horribly) and yet they continued making consoles and selling them for ...
Yah it really is that simple.
Though there's a lot of people who don't have either a PS4 nor a PC capable of running Rift "Good", they are the people in limbo right now, these are the people Sony and Oculus (and Vive) need to convince, among people who aren't into any gaming at all.
A CES interview said something similar but then went out to say, "even a 970 is good enough". Sure people may not need uber gfx that cost $500+, but a 970 is no different then Rift's lower end to run it, and runs around $300 alone.
Vive is still aiming at higher-end pc users, and despite what they say to run the hardware, if the hardware ends up being expensive, then it's no different from Rift's situation where only the high-end PC users (hardcore of t...
hmm, okay weird then. I platinum'd BB lol and have put over 300 hours into the game with the DLC, so if there's a big BB(souls) fanboy its me, but cmon lawl. People upset of goty clearly don't browse around, it has some awards, and even was goty for destructoid. Besides a more "casual" appealing game like Witcher 3 was bound to eat up everything., people forget some consider souls niche still(which is crazy).
They released DLC, said it was final one, so ...
So what, if your product is there certainly they would be demo'ing games to show off the tech? non-gaming applications for PSVR?
Also lol at the disagree's a I got for being generally curious if anything actually new came out of CES. Surely with "100 games in development" a new game would have popped up at CES...at least one.
Geez, a lot of developers still can't make combat good or at least make it seem interesting. This is mainly apparent for the big open world games, Skyrim was similar. Though maybe that's the consequence of being 1st person melee without lock on. Lots of human sponges where your forced to wack at a normal mob for more than 6 seconds.
Game looks good visually but meh, PC would be the only way to play this type of game (not that its surprise since its far cry).
More PSVR? Did they show ANYTHING new at CES? I don't remember anything noteworthy coming from them then, least that didn't make news on n4g. More uncharted is great. Bloodborne...is weird, maybe talk its success? Need more Horizon Sony, show us more!
ehh,if Sony penetrates the market with a cheaper version PSVR that will help both companies. Oculus/Vive will become the "natural" upgrade to a PSVR, but you have to let people try it out and Sony's in the best position to do that.
I think it's too dangerous to think of any of the other companies as serious competitors. VR has a lot of requirements and is expensive, the more they can get into peoples hands the better, even if it's not your company per sa...
I'd say they are one gen behind playstation. If Ps2>Ps3 is the same as Wii>Wii U, then they are behind one gen. However they still have a chance of beating xbox I'd say, since it will have no way of surpassing 28m units this year, if NX is a grand slam they no doubt can catch up by end gen, especially with a lot of games being delayed on xbox this year, NX could steal some would be xbox buyers to just go nintendo instead while they enjoy 3rd parties on their PC/PS4.
True, but I'd also say they hardly break the mold nowadays. Sony's 1st party exclusives tend to be LIKE they are sony exclusives, something you'd find on playstation, not something out of the ordinary from what playstation has had in the past. Horizon, while looking amazing, I would say is something not too out of the ordinary in playstation terms. Same for The Order. Until Dawn was neat though.
But if playstation made Splatoon, THAT would have been out of the ord...
Ever since the wii (or maybe even DS) they've been trying to strike gold with new gimmicky ways to play, doubt they'll change honestly as even when Nintendo went "core" they didn't sell a lot (nintendo 64, gamecube)despite those systems having amazing games.
As much as I love playing their games on simple controls and nice engines, I can see why they flop around with new tech every hardware launch.
I'd say waiting for things to see how they pan out is the smartest choice if your "on the fence", we don't know if it will be supported well, if tech cost drive down, if a better revision comes out with next year, or a new "breakthrough" gets discovered.
While it's a bit annoying not to be able to justify the cost immediately, waiting has no repercussions. Cost will drive down, more games will be available. I like to view this is simply as &quo...
Yah if I remember correctly PC "master race" was the one who can afford triple monitors and super powerful rigs which doubled or tripled the power of PS4 with 4k resolutions and 120 fps, now all of a sudden $600 is "too" expensive for VR. It's not CHEAP, but "too" expensive seems a bit over the top coming from PC crowd.
They could have taken a (bigger?) loss, the difference is they won't make money off of anything at that point. PC VR is poised to not make much money off their games (for 1st couple years), similar to how most AAA's make less than half their money from PC, where the only successful games are big multiplayer cheap games or straight f2p games, the former will be absent because the install base will be puny, leaving things to weird, but interesting solo games/demo's.
...
I think the price is fair for enthusiast who were the main targets anyway. I just think that everyone is disappointed as they thought VR was going to come out of the gates with the hottest tech and affordable price to take the world by storm. Especially given Rift's DK2 price.
New Tech (or at least, actual working to a nice standard) has usually never done that so to expect VR to do something never before done is a bit funny hindsight. Wait it out, the mass will enjoy VR ...
"My friend Bill Gates bought 3 of them, I mean c'mon!" - Luckey
Exciting as that all sounds, and I have no doubt that eventually it will be big, especially virtual touring, non of that means anything in the gaming space, which is what we're trying to gauge the devices on.
How successful can they be for gaming? That's the big question, and how the market/consumers react to that will be very interesting.
Not exactly. People won't be rushing out to trade in their PS4's/Xbones just because Nintendo is on par with them. We've seen majority of Nintendo's fanbase, they're the ones that own Wii U/3DS.
If they had true parity, say in between xbone and Ps4 power wise and got all 3rd party support with similar price point (at least $350 we're talking here), does Nintendo's IP really outweigh the appeal of Microsoft's/Sony's games? I think that'...
