True, but VR is way more exciting and mysterious than the wii U ever was, and Wii U had a bad launch line up with "no must have" games either, not to mention many more problems with identity.

But nobody can predict how any of these things will do, they could flop hard or actually be able to sell decent despite the high prices, we do know, it's wii all over again, an anomaly that may go north or south fast.

$100 loss isn't so colossal. Also the headset supposedly uses less advanced hardware then oculus, certainly cheaper lenses. People will point out the breakout box but it's just some enc\hancing tech, nothing too expensive, PS4 still does most of the lifting.

The advantage of PSVR is it can sell software to make back some of the money, whereas Oculus had to be priced to get AS MUCH money from the hardware as possible as they know they won't make much money from sof...

Why should the camera+2controllers equate to +$250? Those combined are less than a $100.

I think the most hopeful we can expect the price of full packaged PSVR to be is $450, with an unbundled single headset (with game) for around $350. Whatever the cost it HAS to be under $500, not at or above but under, surely Sony will consider the reaction Oculus had today and seriously think about pricing the device right.

I'd say 1.2m is reasonable if it's priced properly (1.8 by anniversary), and that's PURELY based off price alone, excluding non-factors like untapped markets or mainstream appeal/marketing. I forgot whom but analyst were predicting 5-6million for both oculus+vive combined, given the new announced price tag (and potentially higher price of vive) that seems a way more insane comparatively.

Many forget that everyone's brand new to VR, dropping $1.3k+ for oculus+c...

Oh of course not anywhere near those numbers, but midly successful is what I mean and not a flop. And yah I mentioned party games, aka, with other people. I think VR, while not to the same degree obviously, IS something you'd try with other people around, even if they aren't exactly playing it at the same time you are.

People would like to see their friends/families fun reactions and stuff, I think horror games will be a hit. they will be "let me try" or &q...

Exactly. The people calling fad or gimmick don't know a thing. If 3D stuck around even remotely, VR will stick around. Everything is expensive at first, from 3D to blu ray to 4k, but it all becomes cheaper 3-4 years after.

Though I guess it won't be an "iphone" moment anymore where it took the world by storm from get go (well unless Sony strikes gold somehow).

That was one of the arguments I got into in youtube wars when PC guys defended oculus and trashed on PSVR. They actually thought Rift was going to cost around $350-400, and they could build PC's for $600 to run them for a total of $1k. They also predicted PSVR to cost $500, and that $850 for the entire package is way to expensive and it's going to fail miserably.

I kept telling them there's no way oculus VR in total is going to cost anything less than $1200-1400. ...

It's technology, people like new technology, something they've never experienced before. Games ARE NOT GOING TO BE THE ONLY DRIVING FACTOR, these devices will have multiple uses outside of strictly gaming, it's an entertainment device 1st, a gaming device second.

You could have said wii was nothing but "generic" games, yet it sold millions. LOT had to do with price, but half the "appeal" certainly wasn't about games, but rather a new way to...

Crossing fingers for the price to be under $400, preferably 350 with everything needed (excluding ps4).

Also, they have the chance to create a "wii" effect with this device, getting in casuals through fun party esque games similar to what Nintendo did and "wow"ing them through something they never experienced before. The fact that PSVR is the only VR headset primarily targeting the living room puts it at a major advantage over the other headsets.

That's the thing, to become remotely mainstream out of the bag rather than 4 years down the road. It's one thing to come out and sell ~1.5m within its 1st year, and another to come out and sell <500k, and you get worse from there.

Aside from games I'm pretty sure price has 80% to do with how successful they are out of the gates, which is why I'm vouching hard for good software day 0 because I no doubt they will all be pricey, EXCLUDING the cost of the syste...

No matter how great the tech is, they must have compelling software to back it up and sell it. Hopefully we'll see some cool stuff within launch window as I'm sure they have a few games under wraps to reveal once they reveal the price and date of sale.

Excited by hardware, but more excited about the games and non-game applications that can be applied to it, which from what I've seen everyone seems to dismiss majority of the time simply because "ohh its VR it...

Very amazing series, Nintendo sure knew how to go all out with a franchise. I'm honestly surprised neither Sony nor Microsoft have made any REAL big attempts to make a Pokemon like clone for their consoles through out the consoles they have made so far.

Yah, if anything it's to polish framerate/bug/animations for both single and multiplayer, so a delay to make those problems as least impacting as possible is a great thing. I Imagine the actual game is already done for the most part and now their just working on multiplayer and polishing.

"eventually good" within its own terms. Imagine if Duke nukem released earlier than it was, it would have been even worse, if not even playable more than it already is.

If UC4 was a great game already, then surely a delay will make it better. Duke nukem was a bad game the moment they thought of making a duke game.

Pretty sure QB is the most talked about as far as original titles go, people want something new and QB is the hottest looking thing coming to xbone. Gears fans will always buy gears and halo fans will always buy halo, but I'd say xbox needs new titles to be the "ambitious" projects if it wants to gain MORE fanbase.

QB is definitely more appealing than scalebound/sea of thieves. Recore has the potential to be great but we've seen NOTHING other than a CG/rend...

For someone totally clueless on the Persona games but wants to jump in on 5, what are the games generally about? Is 5 a sequel or are they just standalone games with some familiar characters?

If your coming into gaming out of nowhere, PS4. If you have no preference and just want the best bang for you buck, get PS4. If you like the idea of maybe dabbling into VR, get PS4. This is based off everything on the console, and what we know is coming in the near future.

Otherwise the obvious answer is to get the console who has games, and games coming for it, that interest you. Pretty simple.

Without star wars xbox would be winning!

/s

Sorry but the article is tad ridiculous. While star wars will be a great driving force for holiday sales, it's not keeping the ps4 "afloat". In fact next year I expect to see a surge of PS4's flying off the conveyor belts when all the big exclusive non-star wars games start hitting the market.
