The Wii U is Next Gen!!! ...It's Nintendo's Next Gen Console - Duh!!
Do YOU not understand the Term 'Next Generation'?
...It means the next (Nintendo)console to succeed the last generation (Nintendo console) = Wii
Where does it state MS or Sony are the benchmark for tech anyway? ...I'll laugh my ass off (and will be slightly disappointed) if both Next Box or PS4 turn out to be only slightly more powerful than the Wii U is ...
There's more to it than price as to why Xbox 360 has outsold PS3 in North America (like it or not) but it may be because its an American product.
I'm of the belief that Americans are quite patriotic (which is no bad thing btw).
It's a similar situation in Japan...foreign consoles do not succeed domestic consoles.
There are other factors such as better marketing, price etc...on MS's part, plus they have far more resources than...
The title should have been....
'Sony could make a $99 PS3...but can they afford to?'
....It's a bit late, if not ambitious for Sony to try and steal/gain market share this late in the consoles life cycle. Sony should have concentrated more on marketing it's seriously good 1st party games and market share would have come with that.
Sony really need to learn the lessons of it's woeful PS3 launch.
I am a PS3 ...
'Silly Boy' ??
Oh just behave....you take this whole thing way too seriously....jeez, get a life and spend less time reacting to every little thing you object to.
I swear some ppl would lay down their lives for gaming....
Try not responding to this and your halfway there.... :)
Running a game on Windows OS ruins PC gaming ;)
The PS3 4000 is a PS Lite...it looks cheap as fk and the flip loader takes away from the quality IMO...
It really is for price concious ppl or late adopters...plus, after splashing out 380 million for Gaikai, I would imagine Sony would want to recoup the cost of that investment
...380 mil is not to be sniffed at...look at MS aquistion of Rare studios back in 2001...similar sums 330 million, and MS have practically ruined a once great company that is Rare...Ga...
An opinion is based on fact...not speculative theoretical guess work....and I did not miss the point....
Are you seriously saying to me Sony needed a hardware revision to usher in Gaikai services?? ..c'mon...think!!
And what the hell has Sony being the only hardware co. to revise hardware twice in it's life cycle....? I think Nintendo has revised more hardware than any other co. Gameboy, GBA etc....
Never assume to tell me or anyone w...
Speculation, speculation!!
It's feckin simple economics dodo...Sony need to sell more hardware, and making a cheaper PS3 makes sense now as the console is nearing the end of its cycle...
Yes Gaikai will come into play & it's a nice entry level for slow to adopt hardware buyers on a tight budget..
You only have to look back historically...they did the same with PS1, PS2 and now PS3...Sony are gearing up for PS4....
...
First and foremost I need to get something off my chest....
I am a PS3 user, and Sony has been my 1st choice of console manufacturers...but I am extremely intrigued by the Wii U...I don't really care Wii U's rumoured to be only marginally more powerful than current gen.
..it just looks so dang sexy to me, and I'm growing tired of FPS's and overtly serious games.
I am starting to believe the Wii U could make games 'fun'...
I seriously doubt the console will retail at £99. Even a flip lid Blu-Ray and 16GB flash...with all those other components would put this at a loss for Sony....I can't imagine Sony taking an even bigger hit financially as they have recently...
I would imagine £129 - £149 for this unit...but tbh if you're a true gamer and enjoy Sony products...would you not have a PS3 already?
*excusing late party attendees (late adopters) and cash strap...
Get back in your pram!
If you still have MGS4 after all this time because you (like me) thought a masterpiece deserves to be kept as opposed to traded in....then re-play MGS4 and gasp in awe that even after 4 long years MGS4 still looks amazing!
Some Japanese developers (Kojima) are ahead of their time technically, because most of todays games still fall way short of the quality that is Metal Gear Solid 4....
Kojima....I salute you!
Lol...
I get disagree for agreeing with you, and for exercising an opinion!
Gotta love N4G!
Meh!
@Roper
I agree totally....we're on the same page, the PS3 seemed like it was gonna suck at launch....but look at that baby now!
Early adopters get the worst deal, but are completely necessary, but ultimately they pay extra and wait longer for games(historically) just to claim the new hardware first.....
Um, like you commented I CAN WAIT......
BTW That agree is from me ;)
I don't claim to know the dates, and I don't mind guessing.....?
360 successor 2013 Nov - Dec (1st week)
PS4 2014 August - September
Wii U will find it's audience, but will pose no threat to the quality of Sony/MS.
MS will probably focus on Media capability, release maybe 2 huge killer 1st party titles a year...
Sony will invest heavily in new IP and strengthen its 1st party portfolio...
I have a 2TB External HDD hooked up to my PS3 for movies, music...some game saves
...it's a shame you can't transfer DLC/PSN Games or installs to it though. Does anyone here know if that's possible?
Sony could have made this a feature and ensured the games read from the Ext HDD match only the consoles they were transferred from....it would be so easy!
I agree with Persistantthug entirely...
The economy is definitely a major factor, and any developer would like to showcase their stuff on more powerful hardware...its an art to them..
Look, it's really quite simple! The developers make the games only if there is a reasonable install base so that they can see a return in the investment.
As with same old sequels and lack of new IP's...I don't see Sony customers being too worried abo...
GT5 is awesome no doubt...better than any racing sim on the console circuit IMO...but my HDD space is limited and my GT5 Bluray installs/DLC eats up almost 13GB to date...time to upgrade cos I luv me sum GT5 :)
MS want full control of your living room...they want to be Sky, iTunes and every other service provider on one unit, which is a great achievement if they pull it off.....
Let's just hope this is not to the detriment of new IP investment and games. We're gamers 1st and foremost are we not?
Babbling on about patents, camera's and wands seems to distract from the big picture IMO....screw tacky add ons and who's got the most services....we want ...
My theory on the Gaikai acquisition would be most of the above aforementioned comments...with some exceptions..and with a possibility that Sony could prolong PS3 by co-existing with PS4.
Sony could offer a monthly subscription that allows PS3 owners to stream the entire back catalogue (after licensing agreements are met for Third Party titles)of PS3 games and possibly demo some (allow streaming of 1 level) PS4 games to entice the upgrade/migration to PS4 where the full game ...
