Oh, I can think a few reasons why PS3 is so dang relevant and will continue to be so long after PS4 lands.

The Wii U's path is beset with high mountains to climb...it's a shame Nintendo did not think the Wii U launch through instead of rushing to retail.
It had great promise, 'that trailer' and I seriously wanted this series to be awesome.
But what it amounts to is a go fetch ,whack this zombie make it from A-B and a very tacky RPG element that barely detracts from the immense boredom this game offers.
The Graphics are glitchy, the character models are poorly modelled and are cliché. The first game had unnecessary racial undertones and terrible voice acting.
After buying the firs...

That's a generous score as this series is currently average. I got suckered into buying the first game, not so this time. I have seen better PSN/XBL titles more superior than this.

Lol anyone can have Windows 8, it's not exclusive to anything.
I sold my Xbox 360 slim for £160 with 2 whack games, 1 controller on Amazon. Sold the other controller and all 25 games separately.
I made approx £350, which should totally lessen the cost of my PS4.
I still have my PS3 (ain't goin nowhere) and have The Last of Us, GTAV and Beyond to keep me going until PS4 drops!!!
The 360 is dropping to £99 @E3 so I guess I sold at the right time!!

Nintendo should galvanize themselves now. There is an opportunity for a Wii U re-launch Sept, just in time to catch some more customers prior to PS4 launch and poss. Xbox over the holiday period.
No time for regrets now Nintendo, sell that Wii U....Ads, TV Spots, Billboard, Radio, Print ....line up those games!

Microsoft may choose to hold back showing the console until E3 along with some awesome looking games (hopefully)....but again, MS were quick to criticize Sony for not showing hardware. MS will look bad if they don't show Xbox.
Now, if Sony have another reveal prior to E3, Sony will probably show their console, in which case MS may have to go all out and definitely show Xbox on May 21st....it's like a game of chess.

The Wii U is steadily becoming irrelevant and you can blame Nintendo for it.
Not only did Nintendo launch with a very basic spec (even by 2007 standards), they also have hardly any games to champion the system some 5-6 months later.
To make matters worse, hardly any of the esteemed 3rd party publishers/developers have a remote interest in Wii U.
No Nintendo presence @E3 is a further kick in the teeth for Ninty fans. The once great Nintendo is...

Can't be sure it will be because of a better spec until they reveal everything at E3.
I too cannot watch...I too will be getting this incredible game. The PS3 has been very good to me over the years :)
