@ NickieNick - That's correct. Wii U can't play Blurays OR DVDs, because Nintendo was too cheap to pay the licensing fees to allow the console to do that. Those are just a few of many areas that corners were cut on the base console, just to accommodate the high cost of the gamepad gimmick (and to keep Nintendo's profits as high as possible).

Nintendo doesn't care about offering a competitive, feature-rich product; they really only care about their bottom line...

Skyward Sword was utterly ruined by the silly waggle controls, no one wants to spastically wave their hands around just to play a game. It really didn't deserve more than a 7.5 because of that flaw, if anything they were being generous.

Shame that Nintendo didn't just base the game on standard controls, instead of gimping it with the waggle controls, it would have been a much better game without gimmicks.

"WHY is the Wii U 'underpowered'?"

- Weak CPU
- Weak GPU
- Only 2gb of RAM (with only a measly 1gb available for games)
- Tiny 32gb of internal flash memory (with only 25gb usable on day 1)
- Slow USB 2.0 ports, when USB 3.0 has been out for over 7 years and is 10x faster
- No internal HDD (or even a bay for one)
- No ethernet port
- No bluray or DVD support
- Poor battery life on the Wii U game...

Multiplayer-only killed this game, like so many other games that have no single-player mode. Shame the devs didn't put effort into a SP mode, if they did, the game might have had a better lifespan.

And yes, I know that there is an "offline SP" mode in the game, but it really doesn't offer much in terms of SP game content.

It's pretty clear that both the PS4 and XB1 offer a much better value for the money, with far better hardware, bigger game libraries, many more 3rd party games, and robust futures ahead of them. Meanwhile the Wii U is in its final year of life, is lacking in features and specifications, and has a tiny library of mostly Nintendo games.

So it really is fair to compare them, even if you don't think so.

Nah, much prefer consoles over PCs for gaming. I do have two good gaming laptops, but much prefer to play games on a big TV, not a dinky laptop screen or PC monitor.

Overall 41 rating on Metacritic, and cgmagonline rates this an 8 out of 10 (80). Way, way above the rest of the reviews. Hope Nintendo pays you guys well for your reviews.

This game really should have been titled "Animal Crossing: Cash Grab", because that's all it really is: a ripoff.

From one review: "It’s a blatant attempt to get you to buy more Amiibo, and it’s not even a good one at that."

And excerpt from anothe...

So Target sold like a few dozen Wii U's? Wow that's really going to boost the total sales of Wii U's this holiday, they might actually break 50k worldwide for the month of November! Congrats Nintendo!

Another day, another shill article pushing the shady cdkeys website. I hope nosleepgamer is well paid for these shilling "articles", smh.

I completely understand, you'd rather not read the truth about Nintendo's products, and prefer to keep your head buried in the sand. I would too if I felt so desperate to get the next Mario or Zelda games, regardless of the quality of the hardware they run on.

It's too bad that there is a small core of diehard Nintendo fans, who will accept and defend every poor decision and mediocre product they make; you and others like you are why this company is failing.

Unfortunately Nintendo hasn't had cutting edge hardware for over a decade, so it really doesn't matter what kind of "art" they have. Their consoles have been subpar and feature-lacking for a long time, and I doubt that will change with the NX. Nintendo prefers to keep their manufacturing costs to a bare minimum, in order to keep their profits high, so don't expect anything amazing when the NX releases.

This is a really well written article. It covers a lot of the reasons why the Wii U failed, but sadly it doesn't offer much hope for the future of Nintendo's products. Unless there are drastic changes in Nintendo's hardware design philosophy, and their gaming development, the company is destined to become a 3rd party developer at best, or have it's IPs sold to the highest bidder. Which actually might not be a bad thing, if you consider the possibilities.

If the PS4 and XB1 are overrated, then the Wii U is truly just a mediocre, feature-lacking, low-spec piece of junk. I can see why you'd be nervous about that.

It's a slightly upgraded Wii, with yet another gimmick cobbled in. Who thought that would be a good idea?

3846d ago 0 agree2 disagreeView comment

Whoa, the spin is strong in this one. No matter how you cut it, the Wii U is far from "the best thing that's happened to Nintendo for a long time", in fact it's quite the opposite. The worst console they ever released, and the dismal sales and barren wasteland of decent games are proof of that.

And trying to make the Wii U seem like a great console because the successor is about to launch? Beyond desperate.

3846d ago 0 agree4 disagreeView comment

Come on, that old "PC and Wii U are the best combo" argument is just lame. If you only own a Wii U, you're missing out on the majority of games coming out, simple as that. You're probably more of a casual gamer, if Wii U covers your desires. Which is fine, but please don't try to make it seem like that's all people need, because it just isn't enough.

This is the first time they have offered the gamepad as a separate purchase, so it certainly is relevant to point out the strangeness of Nintendo's decisions about region-locking a game controller. Why defend silly decisions like this? Why not actually step up and demand that they stop making these kinds of decisions?

Totally agree, it's clear that Nintendo cut every possible corner on the design of the Wii U, to accommodate the high cost of the gamepad. So many features were either gimped, or outright omitted from the Wii U console, leaving the system unable to properly handle current generation games. An Ethernet port is an essential feature that should have been included inside the Wii U on Day 1, not done with a silly USB adapter. Unbelievable that a modern day console is missing so many essential ...

Fatal design flaw, putting so many resources into the gamepad, and leaving the base Wii U console way too stripped down in terms of specs and features, unable to properly run current generation games. The high cost of the gamepad is clear evidence of this; they really shouldn't have bet everything on a gimmick, it wasn't enough to make up for the weak hardware.
