You really have no counterpoints to this opinion piece, and it would be great if you at least used punctuation. That's one pretty big run-on sentence!

The fact is that the author of this article is very thorough in his research and his points are all very valid, whether you like what he is saying or not. If Nintendo doesn't make some drastic changes to their philosophy for making gaming hardware, they're completely done in this industry.

You seem to be missing the point. If Nintendo doesn't offer competitive hardware (for the NX), that is, hardware at least equivalent to consoles that came out 3 years before it's release (PS4 and XB1), then they really won't have a chance. Being "different" or "innovative" (aka gimmicky), is not going to convince anyone to buy into their platform.

You can argue all you want about Iwata's statements, and talk about Nintendo's "philo...

Did you even read the article? You don't even address any of the points made by the author.

How about actually providing some counterpoints to the article, if you think it isn't fair?

Too bad you never give any rational arguments to prove that, just simple one-liners that mean nothing.

Try to actually put forth a rational discourse if you want to convince people of your points, instead of an empty phrase here and there.

This is a very well written and researched article. The author really covers a lot of reasons why Nintendo is going to have a hard time with their next console. Unfortunately Nintendo is fighting an uphill battle in trying to regain respect in the gaming community. While many of their die hard fans claim that their hardware is very innovative, the reality is that all of their recent hardware has featured questionable gimmicks that do not improve gameplay, but in fact get in the way of having ...

"A Wii U Tech Showcase", indeed. Shame Nintendo didn't put more resources into the Wii U console, but obviously the gamepad was their main focus for the whole package.

@ Vhampir - 3DS has nothing to do with the failure of the Wii U. Why try to change the subject? Damage control?

"the Wii U sold quite a lot during black friday sales" - So what's the total install base now? Still only around 11 million, a very poor number considering how long the console has been on the market.

As for the 3 games you mentioned, that's an awfully small list for a whole year, don't you think? Way too few games to make a di...

Have you ever considered that maybe you're just not very good at action oriented games, which might explain why you don't like them? They do require good reflexes, dexterity with a controller, and quick thinking, all qualities that just aren't needed in the slower, more plodding turn-based games. Something to consider.

3759d ago 0 agree2 disagreeView comment

They really have no choice but to rush out the NX, the Wii U just never caught on, and it's pretty much in its final year. If they don't get a viable product to the market soon, they really aren't going to have much of a future in the gaming industry.

Also the article is well written and fair; this year there really have been almost no games released for the console, and there are only a few more in the works. It's very clear that Nintendo is moving on from t...

I can understand that you don't want the truth to be brought up about a beloved Nintendo game, you'd rather just not have it discussed at all, right? Very sad.

@ nunley33

No, unfortunately you're trying to rewrite history. Nintendo did NOT invent analog sticks. From Wikipedia:

"The first consumer games console which had analog joysticks was the Prinztronic/Acetronic/Interton series, launched in 1976. This system was widely cloned throughout Europe and available under several brand names. The 2 sticks each used a pair of potentiometers, but were not self-centering.[3]

In 1982, Atari released...

Unfortunately, it seems like XCX isn't the masterpiece that many people were hoping it would be. Here are comments from another forum, by a dedicated Nintendo fan who loved the original Xenoblade Chronicles game:

"My faults with the game are as follows:

- When you start to get more party members, it becomes a real pain in the ass to level them up & raise their affinity. Combine that with the fact that you have to go to them to add them to your p...

For a lot of people who like action games (myself included), turn-based strategy games are boring. I do enjoy certain types of turn-based games, but generally prefer action-oriented games.

It isn't "innovation" that Nintendo is known for, it's gimmicks tied to low-spec hardware, to maximize profits and minimize costs. Unfortunately, most gamers just want solid gaming hardware, they don't want to be forced to use silly gimmicks just to play games.

If they continue using the same approach as the past two consoles, of building mediocre hardware built around silly gimmicks, they're doomed in this industry.

No, Kirby was utterly ruined by the silly gimmick of having to draw lines on the gamepad screen. The game basically forces people to play entirely on the gamepad, and they can't enjoy it on the TV.

Yet another example of Nintendo forcing gimmicks on their customers, ruining the experience. Please, stop making excuses for this kind of tripe.

Absolutely agree. They based the whole game around buying amiibo gimmicks, huge ripoff. How far the mighty Nintendo has fallen! So sad.

Yep, they really should have just called that "Animal Crossing: Cash Grab". Terrible game.

The 3DS was basically obsolete the day it released. The technology inside was way behind the curve, especially the ultra low-res screen (400x240 "per eye", below the resolution of the PSP which came out many years before it). Everything in it was built around the 3D gimmick, yet the 3D effect only has a small "sweet spot", making the gimmick fairly useless. Most people just turned off the 3D, making that core feature a waste of money.

Hopefully Nintendo&#...

Actually all the problems I listed are completely legitimate. Making excuses and minimizing these problems are very common among diehard Nintendo fans, and it's not surprising that you try to cover up the many problems with the Wii U. Honestly, I'd be embarrassed too if I bought into such a poorly designed, feature-lacking, gimmicky console.

"10 Reasons You Shouldn't Get a Wii U This Christmas":

1) Very small library of games
2) Poor selection of games
3) Some genres almost completely missing from library
4) Digital purchases tied to hardware, your console breaks or is stolen/lost, you lose all your games
5) Low-spec hardware
6) Many missing features
7) Oversized, awkward gamepad controller
8) No 3rd party games
9) Poor online features ...
