Totally agree! Nintendo hasn't gotten anything right for over a decade. Their latest flagship console (Wii U) is a failure, 3DS sales are fading despite the cash grab "New 3DS" (terrible name), and the only hope for resurrecting their reputation lies with a questionable (and possibly gimmicky) new console coming out in 2016 (the NX). They really are far from "getting it right", no matter how desperately fanboys try to rewrite history.
Even at $200 for a bundle, that's a lot to pay for a console with such a small library of decent games. Next year it will probably be clearanced out for $100 or so (when the NX releases), better to just wait until that happens and save your money.
Full blurays hold 50gb of data, so it's appropriate to point out that Wii U discs only hold 25gb (because Nintendo was too cheap to pay the licensing fees for the bluray format). Yet another area that Nintendo cut corners on the Wii U.
It's a shame Nintendo didn't plan ahead on the design of the Wii U. They only included a tiny 32gb of internal storage, of which only 25gb is usable; nowhere near enough storage to hold much in terms of digital games (and probably barely enough space to hold XCX just by itself). This decision is going to hurt them on digital sales of games like Xenoblade, but it's really their own fault.
Wow, Nintendo told you personally that the NX is releasing in 2017? You really should write an article about it, you'll have an exclusive story that no one else has heard about! SMH
Actually, the article is very on-point. And your denial of its valid points is no different than a gambler's (or drug addict's) denial of his or her addiction, so you really just proved the author's point.
Uh oh. The code words "unique and different" really sound like the NX may be based on a gimmick, just like the Wii and Wii U before it. It's a shame that Nintendo feels that they must incorporate a gimmick into every gaming product they put out, in order to set themselves apart. If they follow the same approach as previous systems, they're done in this industry.
$60 for a digital-only game? I love shmups and may eventually buy it through PSN, but not at the prices they are asking for the PS4 and Vita versions (Vita is $40 digitally).
If they had physical releases of these games in NA, I could better understand the prices, but they didn't bother even trying to get them out that way. Shame.
When a console is so out-of-whack with its competitors, as the Wii U is in terms of specs and features, it really doesn't deserve to be considered part of the same generation. If Nintendo wanted people to take their products seriously, they should have put much, much more effort into their design, instead of relying on cheap gimmicks tied to cheap hardware.
The PS4 is a huge hit, doing fantastically and slated to completely dominate this generation. The XB1 is behind it...
Nah, what it needs is for diehard Nintendo fanboys to dump it, and buy real consoles (PS4 or XB1, or even 360 and PS3). Send Nintendo a message: no one wants lame gimmicks tied to cheap, feature-lacking hardware; they want solidly-designed, great consoles that really do offer a better experience. Wii U's gimmick failed to ignite, time to move on.
Only in the minds of the most diehard Nintendo fans is the Wii U "by far the best console of gen 8", especially since the Wii U is really just a gen 7 console (and not a very good one, nowhere close to the 360 and PS3). The vast majority of gamers would agree with my statements, but if it makes you feel better to reinterpret reality, so be it.
Unfortunately, Nintendo just doesn't have the technical expertise to design cutting edge hardware anymore, so if in fact the NX is a VR-based system, it will fail even more spectacularly than the Wii U. For over a decade, Nintendo has been way behind the curve, relying on gimmicks tied to cheap hardware to set themselves apart. That isn't going to magically change anytime soon, no matter how many times you click your heels together and wish for it.
LOL, funny stuff. Welcome to Fantasy Island!
Oh please, no more excuses for Nintendo's poorly designed, feature-lacking, low-spec hardware. Just step up and admit that it fell way short, and move on.
3rd party devs aren't to blame for Nintendo's lousy products, only Nintendo is to blame for that.
Let me guess; another shill article from "nosleepgamer" promoting the shady cdkeys website? Hopefully they're well paid for their efforts promoting shady cdkeys, that's about all they do here on N4G.
Because all Nintendo news must be positive, regardless of reality, in the minds of the most diehard Nintendo fans? Makes sense.
Agreed. Also let's hope Nintendo has learned a lesson from the failure of the Wii U, gimmicks alone aren't enough to attract gamers. Solid, non-gimmicky, feature-rich hardware is what people want, please no more silly gimmicks!
No physical release? But still a full retail price of 39.99?
Nah, although I'm interested in the game, I'll wait for a hefty discount. If there were a physical version, I'd definitely have gotten it day 1.
They might as well have just named it "Animal Crossing: Cash Grab", because that's really what it is. A way to push more useless gimmicks on their hapless clients.
Unfortunately they're charging $60 for the PS4 version, and $40 for the Vita version, and they're both digital-only titles in NA. Had they released as physical versions as well, I would have bought both of them. But at those prices, I'll just wait for a deep discount on the digital versions. Way too high a price for digital-only games.
