@ higgins78 - I totally agree that Move and Kinect are gimmicks, but fortunately neither Sony nor Microsoft forced those gimmicks on their customers.

Don't like the Move gimmick controls? Don't buy the tiny handful of games that require them.

Don't like the Kinect gimmick? Again, just skip the few games that required it.

Most games for the 360 and PS3 did not require or even support the Move and Kinect. Both of those add-ons were...

Well said! It's hard to believe that people try to blame 3rd party devs for the lack of support on the Wii U, when the true fault lies with Nintendo, for producing hardware that is just unable to compete this generation. Hopefully Nintendo has learned that lesson, and is planning to put more thought/effort into the design of the NX than they did with the Wii U. If they don't, the system is just not going to succeed at all.

Agreed. If Nintendo wanted strong 3rd party support, they should have designed better gaming hardware. The gamepad alone doesn't make up for the weak base console specs.

I agree! Looking forward to Odin Sphere for PS4 and Vita, when it releases in North America. Loved Dragon's Crown, and Odin Sphere looks fantastic.

I agree. If Nintendo cuts corners on the NX hardware, like they did on the Wii and Wii U, they're just not going to succeed on their next console. Let's hope that they go back to the drawing board, and focus on solid, non-gimmicky hardware this time.

From $40 they really should have offered a physical release of the game. I can wait for that.

This article really illustrates why the Wii U is a failure; Nintendo put absolutely no thought into making it able to compete, instead putting all their effort into implementing the gamepad. In order to accommodate the high cost of the gamepad, they had to cut many features out of the base console, and drastically reduce its specs as well. Hard to believe that Nintendo didn't realize that the console wouldn't even be able to match previous gen consoles, which came out 6-7 years before...

Unfortunately, the gamepad is the most significant feature that resulted in the failure of the Wii U. Nintendo clearly bet everything on the gamepad, putting far too few resources into the console itself. This left the Wii U console completely unable to compete, this generation.

Let's hope that they ditch the gamepad and go back to a well-designed, traditional controller for the NX. If they don't, the chances for success are pretty slim.

No, "marketing and NOA" have nothing to do with the failure of the Wii U; feature-lacking, low-spec hardware are the real reason for its failure. Unfortunately, once the console was released, there was nothing Nintendo could do to fix those issues and turn it around.

The battery on the gamepad is just one of many areas where Nintendo cut corners on the Wii U to save money on manufacturing costs, to keep their profits up. They clearly want to deliver the cheapest possible hardware, to maximize profits. Pretty sad.

@ GotHDgame "Huh? Uh, the Wii U has far more features than PS3/360"

No, it really doesn't. Look at the following list of features that the Wii U is missing:

- No internal HDD (or even a bay for one)
- No Ethernet port
- No DVD playback support
- No bluray playback support
- No analog triggers on any controllers

It's hard to believe that Nintendo left out so many features that are commonl...

If it is a "reimagined Wii U", it will certainly be the last home console Nintendo ever makes. The controller concept art shown in the accompanying picture above, if it is actually just a controller (could be the entire system for all we know), looks ridiculous.

Doesn't really look like "domination" to me, but if it makes you feel better to say that, OK.

The Wii U was forgotten a long time ago. And contrary to some opinions, bad marketing was not the reason for its failure. Wii U hardware has poor specs, for what was supposed to be an 8th gen console, and is lacking in many features that are commonly expected in modern gaming hardware. Nintendo clearly bet everything on the gamepad gimmick, to the detriment of the base console. That left the Wii U unable to compete, and 3rd party developers gave up on it.

Let's hope that...

He certainly sounds like RPGrinder, and we all know that guy had multiple alt accounts. And it's funny that RPGrinder has been so silent recently, yet Stealth20k has been spewing the exact same kind of fanboy stuff. Hmmm...

@ JunMei - No, I just shot holes in your weak arguments, and you had nothing left to say about it. Understandable, there's only a small core of diehard casuals that still support the Wii U, it is otherwise just an irrelevant product in the gaming community.

It was far from "amazing", and far from "innovative". All the Wii U ended up being, was a slightly upgraded Wii with a giant awkward low-res gamepad, and its clear that Nintendo bet everything on that gamepad, to the detriment of the base console. The base console itself is very low-spec hardware, lacking in even the most basic features that are expected in a console in this generation. They thought the gamepad would be enough to entice people to buy in, but in the end, ...

@ Scriviar - It isn't getting high scores in general, but most scores are in the 5-8 out of 10 range. That makes this 2/10 review suspect, most likely for clicks. A score of 2/10 should be for a game that is almost (if not completely) broken, so it is a very poor review most likely put up for clicks.

What changes? They still tie all digital purchases to hardware, they still rely on gimmicks to try to differentiate their substandard gaming hardware, they still have no 3rd party support, they still force people to use silly controllers to play their games, they still have a terrible online infrastructure, they introduced cheap amiibo gimmicks that result in high priced DLC, and they have entire genres of games virtually absent from their game libraries. Unless the NX reverses these deficien...
