What made the Wii U a failure?
- Weak CPU and GPU
- Measly 2gb of RAM
- No internal HDD (or even a bay for one)
- Crappy disc design that results in failing games when slightly scratched
- Oversized awkward gamepad gimmick that distracted from games rather than improving them
- Built entirely around a gimmick
- Very small library of games with few good ones
- Poor online
- Harsh anti-consumer DRM for di...
Excellent review that covers the serious problems with MMWS. This sentence really hits home: "In being an online only game, it misses out on what made the original series so great, single player experience."
I had preordered copies of the game for both the PS4 and XBox One, both copies were returned unopened. Codemasters really butchered the game, total fail. No single player content, no buy.
Very well said, especially your last sentence. This is a handheld for Nintendo fans only, just like the Wii U was a console for those very same fans, and we all know how that turned out.
The Switch is selling ok now (thanks mostly to Nintendo's artificial shortages), but as the year progresses and very few games come out for it, people will realize that there is very little to play on it. I'm already hearing about early adopters wanting to sell their Switches when the reality of a huge lack of games sinks in.
If you're not a big fan of Nintendo's own first party games, there is no reason to buy a Switch, and won't be for a very long tim...
This game is a huge disappointment. I pre-ordered two copies, one for each platform (PS4 and XB1), and returned both copies unopened after I heard there is essentially no single player content. Codemasters really bungled the game in a huge way, total shame.
It's absolutely laughable that Miyamoto would claim that Nintendo offers variety, when in fact it's just the opposite. Their gaming hardware has been woefully lacking in variety for over a decade, with entire genres of games almost completely missing. Racing, fps, tps, shmups, action/rpg, jrpg, sports, open world, all of these genres are almost completely absent from all their gaming hardware for many years. Unbelievable that he would try to claim otherwise.
Yes. Because Nintendo is cheap, and wants to deliver the cheapest possible hardware at the highest possible price, to ripoff their loyal fans and pad their profits.
Sure, except of all the gaming systems out there, Nintendo has the least variety in terms of games. So no, not at all.
But Arms is trash. Got any other ideas?
There aren't going to be a lot of ports besides the more simple indie games and some Android/iOS ports. This is the simple truth, the Switch is unable to compete with the current generation consoles, and won't be getting many games at all, besides the usual Nintendo rehashes (Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, etc).
I was looking forward to this game and preordered one copy for each platform (PS4 and XB1). Then I read the reviews that said this is essentially an online-only game, with almost no single player/offline content. Returned both copies unopened, I'm not supporting garbage like that. VERY disappointing.
It certainly is sad, and embarrassing that Nintendo released a weak piece of gaming hardware that can't handle any current generation games unless they are gutted and heavily watered down. And that is exactly the reason that the Switch will fail; a severe lack of 3rd party games, just like the Wii U.
Nope, it's a handheld device, not a home console. And it isn't even close in power to the real home consoles. Which is why, in the long run, it doesn't have a chance to succeed; few 3rd party developers will bother watering down their games for the much weaker Switch handheld.
That certainly is true, they ignore 3rd party games on Nintendo consoles then complain about no 3rd party support.
"No plans for Switch"
I have a feeling we'll be hearing that a lot over the next year or so. And without solid 3rd party support, the Switch will go down the same path as the Wii U.
Agreed. I actually preordered two copies of MMWS, one for each platform (PS4 and XB1), but will be returning both copies without opening them. Codemasters really bungled the development of the game, with almost no single player content. Trash.
Too bad they're not "running" on the Switch (as pointed out by Nitrowolf2), and you can't play any of those games on the go. And also you're limited to the 720p screen with a measly 3 hours of play time.
Doesn't sound very exciting after all those caveats, sadly.
Unfortunately for their loyal fans (a group that gets smaller every year), no. Nintendo's main technique (for over a decade now) has been to make the cheapest possible hardware, lacking in even the most basic features and specs, and throw in a gimmick to reel people in. While that approach worked (for a while) with the original Wii, it failed spectacularly with the Wii U, and it's not going to succeed with the Switch either. The days of people buying Nintendo's gaming hardware ...
"Lack of Switch version explained"
Except, it wasn't explained at all. But it's really very simple: the Switch is a handheld, not a home console. It doesn't have close to the power of the PS4 and XB1, never mind the PS4 Pro and XB1X. It has less RAM, weaker CPU and GPU, almost no internal storage, etc. The Switch was simply not built to compete with the real home consoles, and as a result it won't get many multiplats at all. It will mainly be a sys...
"Why do Nintendo keep the price of Wii U games high?"
Greed, plain and simple. They are arrogant and greedy, always trying to extract the maximum possible amount of money from their loyal fans.
