Hard to believe that Nintendo released a console with so little storage in 2012 (8 or 32gb). They clearly weren't planning on selling games digitally, with so little space available on either system.

Even consoles from 7 years before the Wii U had more storage at launch (360 and PS3), what were they thinking?

Again, how hard would it be to add "EU only" in parentheses after the article title? This is not available for NA/Canada at all.

@ wonderfulmonkeyman: LOL no, the Wii U isn't "upgrade-able" at all, in fact the features are very meager and set in stone for the life of the console. Do you think they can "upgrade" the CPU or GPU? Add an internal HDD? Increase the amount of RAM? Upgrade the slow USB 2.0 ports to 3.0?

None of those things are going to happen. The one thing that can be upgraded is the battery in the Wii U gamepad, but its pretty sad that Nintendo put such a low-p...

While I totally agree with you, Nintendo hasn't been known for designing higher-spec hardware for over a decade now. Their business model is centered around making the cheapest possible hardware, then throwing in a gimmick to reel people in. This is done to maximize profits on gaming hardware, of course at the expense of gamers who end up buying the inadequate systems.

This technique worked (for a while) with the Wii, but failed miserably for the Wii U. Many people who b...

He means brand new systems with a bunch of games bundled with them, not the barebones refurbs they're peddling on the site now.

And while they're at it, they really need to release a new model with more than a pitiful 32gb of internal storage. What were they thinking, releasing a new console in 2012 with so little storage?

Obviously they weren't planning on selling people many digital games, very poor planning on Nintendo's part. I'm sure ...

They really are terrible ads. Awful voices, bad music, and geared heavily towards young kids. Not sure why Nintendo thinks that ads like these are going to boost sales.

There really is no way to "salvage" the Wii U at this point. Nintendo gambled that yet another gimmick tied to cheap hardware (like the Wii before this) would again make for a huge money-making product, but that formula no longer works. Many people who bought the Wii felt burned, which really made it harder for Nintendo to follow up with an appealing successor. Had they just focused on solid, feature-rich hardware instead, something that could grow and evolve over its lifespan, the...

This new release is much improved over that version, plus its discounted to $7.99 for PS+ members (down from 9.99 release price), plus its cross-buy between PS3, PS4, and Vita (you get all three versions for one price). Really not a bad deal at all.

It's effectively considered one of the last gen consoles, which is why they left it out.

"Calendar year" means January 1 - December 31.

No, they're not "on the verge of something big", they're still struggling with a failing last gen console (Wii U), declining 3DS sales, and a general irrelevance in the gaming industry and among most gamers.

To regain relevance, they need to stop focusing on gimmicks, and get back to making solid gaming hardware that is feature-rich and competitive in terms of technology. Let's hope that the NX or whatever it ends up being named, follows this path rather...

Who cares? These are just cheap gimmicks put out by a dying company, one that no longer understands what gamers really want. Thus the total failure of the Wii U, a poorly-designed console that was (once again) built around a gimmick.

That's only Burnout Paradise on PC, the best Burnout games were Takedown and Revenge on consoles.

I agree! Burnout 3: Takedown is one of the greatest arcade racers ever made. Burnout Revenge was also fantastic, and it surprisingly came out on both the OG XBOX and the 360, in much higher resolution. Both are among my favorite arcade racers ever.

@ marloc_x - I assume you're talking about the Wii U, with its pitiful little 8gb or 32gb of RAM? LOL, don't try to point out small internal storage when the Wii U takes the cake in that respect, its just another of its many shortcomings. Shame they didn't do a better job on the design of that system, eh? :/

@ jonrhoades87 - No, I think it is you that don't understand at all, which is pretty embarrassing if you're actually "in the field of" console engineering. There's nothing magical about the Wii U, and every single point I put up is a FACT. NOTHING you wrote are facts, they are just fanboy fantasies, desperate hopes that Nintendo might have actually made a half-decent product (which they didn't, sadly).

Every point I put up stands and is a fact. Th...

If you're waiting for the disc on either next gen system (XB1 or PS4), you do know that the game will take up that amount of space whether you get it digitally or retail? Both next gen systems install entire games from disc to HDD, so digital vs. retail is no difference there.

If you're talking about having to download a huge chunk of data vs. installing from disc, then you have a good point.

No, there's nothing "magical" about the Wii U at all. Just because it uses less power doesn't mean that it is efficient at hosting good games. That lower power consumption might save you a buck or two a year, but in return you get a system with:

-- Weak CPU
-- Weak GPU
-- A paltry 2gb of RAM, with only 1gb available for games
-- No internal HDD (or even a bay for one)
-- Ancient USB 2.0 ports, when USB 3.0 has been out for ov...

Why not talk about the REAL reason that COD no longer appears on the Wii U? It's a last-gen console, one that in many cases can't even match the other last gen consoles (360 and PS3), so they'd have to downgrade the current gen versions (XB1 and PS4) heavily to make it work on Wii U.

Instead of always trying to blame the developers, just own up to the fact that the Wii U design is not up to current gen standards (and in some cases, not even up to last gen stand...

What are you talking about? I'm not "Jonathan Lester", you seem to be confused (as usual, no surprise, lol).

But sadly, your one little bubble is gone, so we won't be able to see any more witless comments from you here, will we? So very sad. ;)
