They need to evolve franchises like the way Mario does (2-D Platforming Mario games, 3-D adventure games, party games, sports games, fighting games)

They need to have more games based on fantasy worlds (Legend of Zelda comes to mind)

They need to have more genres (More strategy games, a little more RPG's, more platformers at the stores, etc.)

SOME (not all) need to be a little less serious because they can try to hard and it can feel bori...

I don't think Nintendo deserves to be on this list, at least not for the reasons they mentioned and not nearly as much as Micro$oft.

Those games will be awesome, I'm looking forward to The Last of Us and Beyond as well, but gaming itself is becoming stale.

Many of the games either look the same, play the same, feel the same, or can fit in the same genre. Like will "The Last of Us" really be THAT different from Uncharted? Beyond is gonna have the same dark feel that Heavy Rain had, and might have QTE's.

It's like, where's the variety? Where's the fiction you k...

Exactly, considering how iPhones are already capable of the graphics. They should only cost more than 250 if they include a big hard drive

It would've been smarter for Sony to keep the original sizes (or bump 250 to 320) and cut the price to like $199.99 for 160 GB and $249.99 for 250 GB ($149.99 for 160 GB as a holiday special) considering how many people either already have Uncharted 1,2, and 3, or haven't played the first two in the series, and many people who'll get a PS3 this late probably won't need a 500 GB hard drive with Assasin's Creed III, .

Wii if you like/can find gamecube games (that they might not have on the Wii U's virual console or u don't feel like rebuying) and if you like the Gamecube controller, which is easiyl top 5 for best game controllers ever.

Trust me, once you get pass just dance and other shovelware on the Wii, you will be greeted to some of the best exclusives this gen:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2
Xenoblade Chronicles
The Last Story ( this and the one above are often put with Lost Odyssey on the 360 as the best console RPG's this generation)
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword...

Because games are more complex, and developers are marketing their game differently than in the past. Like sports games nowadays can legitimately mimic their real-life counterparts because of current-gen hardware, compared to the Genesis and SNES days, where you couldn't legitimately mimic a sport on 16-bit system and just had to make it more fun and game-ish than realistic.

For example, the Madden. Saying it's fun isn't a enough for some NFL fans who are expecti...

How about if your playing NBA 2K and if the pressure is on your rookie in my player mode, the controls will go red to represent your player's nervousness, and if he's cool, calm, and composed, the controller goes cold.

The left part of the case has nothing on it, pretty much.

The Gamecube is the definition of Core Gaming man, that was Nintendo's strategy, 4 controller ports, low $199 price point, some of the best first-party/exclusive titles of the gen(The Legend of Zelda WW and TP, Super Mario Sunshine, Smash Bros. Meelee, F-Zero, MGS Twin Snakes, Resident Evil 4, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos Series, Pikmin 1 and 2, DK Jungle Beat, Super Monkey Beat, Batallion Wars, TimeSplitters, Metroid Prime, etc.), and not to mention, a kickass ergonomic controller, a...

The main problem he had with online outside the swearing was how many games now are starting to neglect or the offline experience useless/nothing (ex. Madden NFL 13 needed a bunch of patches to bring back some offline features, and it still lacks offline multiplayer for its main mode even though they added offline coop.)

Big budget games may help, but they've changed how many developers/companies are. Many companies have been killed off because there has been no market fo...

To be honest, I think we will see a return to dedicated gaming consoles, partially to drive down the price and to focus the money on the gaming itself (The Nintendo TVii is probably the only major media app for the Wii U, as it won't have as much apps compared to PSN and XBL, can't play blu-ray, etc.

Thank you for number 3 and number 1, and for not completely disregarding motion control gaming, as I believe it has some potential and can produce great games/gaming experience, it just isn't ready yet (if accuracy can improve, then maybe it can start appearing in more types of games)

Good article overall.

One could argue the graphics are causing major shifts in what developers release, knowing that many games nowadays have large budgets - so large budgets=do what works, which leads to less variety/less sequels.

A console doing more is nice, but I like where the Wii U is, because having al lthe multimedia that you might not even use/need can make it feel like you dropped a bunch of money (PS3's $599 price tag)

Chances are Danica probably lost this race too.

Well, first off, many game developers have already said that the Wii U has a lot more power than the PS3/360 (even though the launch titles don't show it). Secondly, the Miiverse could be a major feature that can help Nintendo Network stand up (if it works well that is).

I honestly think that if the PS4 and 720's graphics are the same or aren't much better than the Wii U's, then the Wii U will easily win this generation. The third party support seems to be the...

I never said pac-man is a core game, and yes, Tetris is a core game because it contains a lot of strategy and careful planning, and one can get better at it.

5003d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

A core game is a game that requires some practice to play better and a control scheme that isn't too simple or basic (like pressing the spacebar is the only control). Whether it's Tetris, Super Mario bros. or Halo, these are core games.

A core gamer is a gamer who is willing to get better at a game, wants to get immersed/engrossed in the game, or wants a challenge that isn't too simple.
