Actually, I think Gearbox's graphics engine (or should I say their modified Unreal Engine 3) looks just as technically impressive as Infinity Ward's engine, if not more so. Better shaders, draw distance, polygon counts...
Not to mention the fact that, historically speaking, Gearbox's WWII shooters have been much, MUCH better games than Treyarch's dime-a-dozen, sequel-o-matic titles.
Or maybe you're just a biased fanboy who only believes what you want to hear?
It's a free country, you're absolutely right. That means, I, they, we, all have the right to speak out about any inequalities and inaccuracies in racial representation we see. Just like how you have the right to whine about people of other races pointing out injustices because you're a closet racist on teh internets.
I played Deus Ex 2 as a black character, just because I could, and just because I was sick of the lack of ethnic variety in games. I'm gonna play Far Cry 2 starting off with an African character as well--that is, assuming it includes some African characters for you to choose. It had better damn well include some, considering the game is set in freaking AFRICA.
It's a sad, sad indictment and statement about certain civilized countries and society in general, but racial representation DOES affect game/media sales. It's all about demographic identifiability: White males would generally rather play as white males, because they can identify with the character more... racially. I'm Asian-American, and I could make the argument that East Asians would have even worse/less representation in videogame characterization, if it weren't for the fact that the Jap...
The mods, I feel are a problem, because the sheer number of available game modes disperse and spread thin the player count too much. Additionally, people get bored of the vanilla built-in gametypes precisely because of the variety they experience with the mods.
Take it from COD4 as a lesson--that game only has essentially 3 game types, and deathmatch.
Doom 3 was a major disappointment, and doesn't exactly leave me with much excitement for the next installment. Rage looks a little more interesting.
...then they say that PC gaming has never been stronger. Which one is it?
It has a lot of cinemas, that's for sure; but you can skip all of them. The total amount of actual gameplay time without the cinemas is around the same as Gears.
Lumbo, I have no idea what you're talking about or where you're getting your (mis)information from, but 1080i is the same pixel aspect ratio as every other HD format: 16:9. 720p is 16:9, 1080p is 16:9, and 1080i is 16:9... they're ALL 16:9 aspect ratio.
Another major mistake you made was saying that 1080i is just 1280x1080 resolution. That is COMPLETELY incorrect. 1080i's resolution is 1920x1080, same as 1080p. However, the difference is that 1080i's horizontal lines refresh in a...
Going by their logic, if 1080i is "almost HD," then 720p is "almost HD" also. 1080i has been one of the most standard high-def output formats since the inception of the HD ERA; it used to be much more ubiquitous and accepted as an HD format than 720p.
The fact that the PS3 is a design misstep/hardware flaw resulting from the exclusion of a hardware scaler. Every PS3 game needs to either use software scaling or a stop-gap line-doubling technique in order to ups...
I would be very happy if this is true. I think a CG movie would stick closer and more faithfully to the MGS games. A live-action film would water it down, change it too much, and "Westernize" it in a conventional Hollywood sense so that it would be more palatable for American audiences.
It also makes sense that Christian Bale were a voice actor, especially considering he's done (anime) animation voicework before (Howl's Moving Castle).
And what constitutes "PC gaming?" Solitaire and Flash bowling?
Good luck on that one, Treyarch.
Bubbles. Working games = "last-gen," indeed.
I agree with ya. 70% on any metric is considered decent or more positive than negative (except for the school grading system, but that's for intentions of "holding students to high standards" motivational type thing).
MGS4 is actually 665p, not 768p (Explanation: 1024x768 is not a 16:9 anamorphic aspect ratio resolution, so you must convert it--when converted to anamorphic ratio, the resolution comes out to 1182x665, or 665p).
MGS4 still looks fantastic though, and 665p is not that low compared to some other sub-HD games out there.
As usual, EA thinking with their pockets. Instead of putting any sort of effort into fostering some loyalty and appreciation with the Playstation brand and fanbase, they look at nothing more than the goddamn current install base. The install base wasn't high enough for them before, but now it is.
Another example of what a shoddy, apathetic, disorganized, and dishonest organization EA is. We all know EA engineered Orange Box PS3. You know it, and I know it. EA knows it. Now they've resorted to LYING to the customer in order to displace responsibility and get out of providing ANY kind of support for the customer and product.
EA, you are TRASH.
Since when are pathetic, loser fanboys respected for what they do on a routine basis? It's just that their all so far gone and come in such huge quantities that it's hard-to-impossible to even begin to moderate some sense into them.
Besides, we all rightfully want to hold developers in higher regard and up to a higher standard than infantile fanboy gamers. They're supposed to be mature and respectful of the business and the development process. This kind of horse crap smack talk...
