It's unfortunate that you don't care for games such as RE5 and MGS4, (both of which will both probably get 10/10's out the yin-yang), but most gamers do. It's your loss. On the other hand, I honestly don't care about anything that's available for PC. I couldn't think of one game if you put a gun to my head.

Looks really good on both platforms. 360 seems to run smoother, but the PS3 version has more destructibility showing.

It may not be a fortune per se, but compare it to spending $200-400 right now, and play this and other great games like MGS4, RE5, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, GTAIV and GoW2 (when they come out, not 10+ months later), and so on. The more economical choice seems pretty clear to me.

More like, "don't have to spend a fortune on videocard and multi-core CPU" to run the same game, ftw ;)

This is GotY in my book. Well, at least next to Far Cry 2.

"Looks better" is too general/subjective and takes into account the artistic execution of the visuals. 15-20% "increase in fidelity" would just be referring to technical performance and specs (polygon counts, texture resolution, shaders, etc.).

Many side objectives are optional. If you just go straight through the game's main story missions, you'll probably be able to beat the game in much, much less time. The near 50 hours quoted was just taking into account finishing all of the side missions.

Call of Duty 4's box also says that the game supports 1080i and 1080p HD output. We all knew that meant the game runs in 600p and is UPSCALED to 1080i/p.

It's pretty likely, if Quaz51 from Beyond3D is anyone to go by, that MGS4 runs in 665p and is upscaled to 1080i/p and 720p.

I think the newer generations are getting less mature, less financially responsible, and less independent. But I don't think that's a reflection of any actual mental/intellectual capabilities getting lower (i.e., "dumber").

I measured the pixels of the screens, and they came out native 720p. Just no anti-aliasing, and a blur filter, causes the jaggies.

Even if it were just the ending, it'd still feel ridiculously protracted. The ending to Lord of the Rings: RotK felt drawn out, and that lasted for maybe 20 minutes, from what I remember. At the very least, someone should be questioning Kojima's sense of pacing/taste/sanity for doing something like multiple 90-min cutscenes.

I still have a hard time believe this is true. It sounds too outrageous to be true, and I wouldn't be surprised if it were debunked as a rumor in the next co...

So would you have liked it better if the entire game was just one huge, whole 20-hour cutscene?

Look, I love good films as much as anyone, but I have serious doubts as to whether someone like Hideo Kojima, who is frankly no Paul W.S. Anderson, has the amount of directorial talent required to pull off so many hours of effective, quality cinematic storytelling. Just because something is complicated and long obviously doesn't make it good.

To say that 90-minute cutscenes (if it is indeed true) is excessive would be an understatement. I'm all for a good amount of well-directed cutscenes to drive the story of games along, but this is after all a videogame first and foremost; an interactive medium. Even Steven Spielberg would have some difficulty in keeping an audience of moviegoers captivated for 90 minutes. For Kojima to have the balls to include several such feature-length movies in a videogame seems like an extraordinarily idi...

The first two are hot, but the rest are downhill into complete, creepy cosplay dorkdom.

Does this even need to be said? All games are is you sitting on your ass on the couch, twiddling your thumbs. Fact: Nobody could care less if you play videogames or win at a videogame. Nobody. It's a recreational hobby with zero physical exertion.

PS2 games probably use one of the SPUs for software scaling. With PS3 games, you can't use one of the SPUs without slowing down the framerate. Also, people talk about the PS3 having a hardware scaler (based on the article by Beyond3D), but it's pretty much known by now that it's broken (it only scales pixels horizontally). Developers need to do special resolution tricks to implement the broken hardware scaler on a game-by-game basis.

There seems to be a large number of (primarily...

No scaler in the PS3 really sucks for me, as well as a couple of my friends. We live in the US, and we use 1080i-only HDTVs that we bought a couple years ago. Very discouraging to find that Sony has left us out in the cold by not supporting a simple a feature as scaling (every single High-def device you can buy right now supports scaling). I guess they really, really wanted to cut costs.

So basically, now we're forced to play in 480p (or even 480i in some games), which really sti...

His credibility was over as soon as he said that KZ2 didn't have the "most impressive visuals of the PS3" like "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare or BioShock."
