Sorry, Polygon, you give a game a score, you gotta stick with it. If you review it too early, that's your fault.
No do-overs in this business.
Interesting. I'll definitely admit that final boss fights these days have been pretty lackluster. I see the best final bosses in Japanese games like Persona 3 or Bayonetta. I've noticed that the bad boss fights don't really seem like boss fights at all. Fallout 3, Uncharted 2, not a fan of that lack of spectacle. Seems like a waste, kinda "go big or go home" kind of deal.
Fun fact: If you look at when I posted the first comment, you'd understand that that update was not there at the time I posted it. I read the whole story last night, and while the reasoning behind this decision is different than the article originally listed, the tournament owners are still at fault.
If there was a breach of ruling and there was an outside party involved, and the tournament owners knew it prior to letting this go (which by the context, they did), they sho...
Screw this tournament. If these players are good at games and they're in a game tournament, they shouldn't be punished for being really good at it, especially if it's for a lousy, stupid, ridiculous reason like that.
I really wish the 10-point scale wasn't so broken. It's worth noting that while being equal in number, the 10-point scale is completely askew, while 5-point scales (even ones moving at .5 increments) don't suffer nearly as much from being misinterpreted.
I don't think 10/10 should mean perfect, because, like the article said, nothing's perfect. It should just mean top-of-the-line in a more relative light.
Of course. It's install base. While I could understand Ubisoft using the tech argument with Unity, the Wii U could handle Rogue no problem.
Hype's been derailing a lot of games this year. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Advanced Warfare was next.
It's okay. Not a mess, not a gem. Just okay.
"...its narrative success is based on how every part of the game works together to achieve something."
I severely disagree with this. Gone Home doesn't make the player (or the character they control) feel important. The things you do really don't have a meaning once the credits roll. Some will say "well, that's the point" but doesn't mean that the GOTY praise is justified. It's hollow and the player's impact on the events is near-po...
The only one I'd dispute is Cursed Mountain. That game had quite a few technical problems in my book. Other than that, awesome list. Can't argue with Madworld. One of the most underrated in the Platinum Games library.
"people that hate modern gaming are people that want to be challenged"
Go play Shovel Knight. Or Super Meat Boy. Or Electronic Super Joy. Or any of the other hundred or so retro-inspired offerings that embrace the fundamental design choices of the old days.
See? There's something for everyone, even people who hate modern games. :)
The year's not over yet. Lots more games are on the way. Don't jump the gun.
Really isn't, actually. Most scores I've seen have been 7/10 or higher, pretty much what I expected.
If you're not happy with either the big stuff or the indie stuff, then you might need to take a break and decide what exactly you're looking for in games. After you know what you want, you'll find it and enjoy it.
There are so many kinds of games out right now that I'd be floored if you couldn't find SOMETHING you like.
Objectivity doesn't exist, because we are all different human beings. We're always looking through our own lens and not someone else's. We speak things from our perspective and only our perspective. The only way to provide an objective opinion is if we were all identical robots.
This isn't limited to reviews. News is not objective either. What you report is different from what someone else reports because you're saying in your article what you personally b...
Agreed. Really cool way to tell a story too. It's not easy giving personality and character to faceless shapes.
I honestly don't think Nintendo would need to buy these franchises to earn advantage from them. Sonic Lost World, quality aside, sold well enough and it's not like Capcom is doing anything else with Mega Man beyond his Smash Bros. appearance.
Nintendo doesn't need to own these franchises to benefit from them.
No, it's not. If you know anything about Daikatana, its hype machine, its final quality, and its development history, then you'll know that Destiny's release is extremely tame in comparison.
This is one of the few big releases to look forward to this holiday season. 2014 has been barren enough. There needs to be something.
I'd love for this game to earn Nintendo some cash, because that way we very well might get the series to continue. Considering how well-received Bayonetta 2 is thus far, it would be a travesty for the series to flounder after this.
I encourage any Wii U owner to at least give this game a shot.
