I was wondering, I work at Gamestop, and in the past week we have had 11 PS3's returned, unopened, by customers who had only bought one to re-sell on ebay. The current going price for a 20gb model on ebay is only $325.00, so they brought them back for a refund instead. We haven't sold ANY of these systems yet, or the 4 new new ones we were shipped last week, either. So I wonder-- do returns get subtracted from Sony's sales totals? Or, if they ever do sell (again) do they get to count that...

Always buy a PS3 on Ebay, I guess they are selling for about $325 dollars now, and since they are the "true" next gen machine, with a built-in Blu-Ray drive, it will have an HDMI cable in the box, right? NO?... oh, well at least it comes with Component cables so you can still view the pretty high-def graph... what, it ONLY comes with composite? WTF?

How is Sony making money when retailers are slashing the price of PS3 games? The retailer still gets their cut, the developer and publisher theirs, so Sony is the one probably losing out, they only get the Licensing fee paid by the dev/publisher to release the game on PS3. Believe me, if the Developer, Publisher or Retailer were taking the hit, it would be even worse news than it already is for Sony, because who would want to make or sell any more PS3 games?

A shorter memory than you. The Dreamcast came out before the PS2, but the Xbox and Gamecube came out a year later, on the same day. Sony used its year head start and greater installed base to get more exclusive games for the PS2; with the PS3 they don't have EITHER advantage. The PS3 will lose to the Wii in Japan and the 360 everywhere else. Deal with it.

Sony has made too many mistakes this time. They came out a year after Microsoft with a more expensive machine that has features most people will barely use. Their production problems on top of this, which has led to a smaller installed base, means more developers will make games for the 360 or the 360 as well, so Sony will have less exclusives this time. Look what they have lost already-- VF 5, Assassins Creed, GTA IV, etc. So, in a way you are right, the games matter most to consumers, a...

If you look at Sony and Microsoft as companies, Microsoft is in a much better place financially. This will definitely matter in the long run-- the 360's price will drop sooner and faster than the PS3 can match. Look at last time-- the PS2 had a year head start and the Xbox had to try and match all of the PS2's price drops, etc., and Microsoft lost a ton of money. This time, Microsoft is already making money on the 360 itself, and the high attach rate is not hurting things, either. Sony, m...

Sony will try and copy alot of features that their service lacks compared to Live. I think they will find, however, that eventually they won't be able to add as much functionality as Live has and keep it free. I have had Live since before it came out (I got to Beta test it), and can't imagine gaming without it. After work I have plans to hook up with a buddy and finish Gears of War co-op playing as Dom to get those achievements, they we will do a little Rainbow Six. Playing Halo 2 live, a...

At the Gamestop I work at, we get about 12 Wii's every week and 3 PS3's every other week. EVERY DAY we have people calling, coming in and standing around until the shipment shows up, etc., wanting the Wii. The last time we got 3 PS3's in, it took 2 days to sell them (and this was before CHRISTMAS!) Plus, we sell 2 or 3 360's a day. Asking around, the biggest deal breakers for the PS3 are lack of good games and its exhorbitant price. Reason everyone wants a wii is exactly the opposite- che...

Why should you have to wait for Sony to do things right that Microsoft did a YEAR EARLIER? After all, Sony stole a bunch of ideas from MS and Nintendo as it is, you think they would have been smart enough to put component or HDMI cables in the box if the PS3 is really the "true" next-gen console, right? Admit it, Sony was too focused on blu-ray, and they let a bunch of other, no-brainer type stuff slide. Inexcusable for the "former" market leader....

You didn't address the 360's almost 8 million system installed base head-start. Delaying the PS3 in Europe combined with Microsoft's efforts to push into new gaming territories (India, South Africa) means that it will be an uphill battle for Sony to catch that number anytime soon, especially with their production problems. Also, the PS3's high price (and don't argue that it is "worth it" because a lot of consumers, especially parents buying for their kids, only see the price tag) ...

They need LOTS of people in the Beta, they can test Halo 3 internally (well, Microsoft employees, not just Bungie) like they did Halo 2, but more is better. I have a friend who works at MS, he Beta tested Halo 2 and told me this time they want to include as many members of the general public as possible to iron out glitches and cheating issues BEFORE the game ships. So, they can boost sales of one of their early 07 titles by including a Beta invitation-- smart move!

Right before Christmas and the two new consoles are still selling well? Who would have thought.... but the 360's sales increase just because of ONE GAME, now that is news. With Lost Planet and then Lost Odyssey on the way, perhaps not all is lost for Microsoft in the land of the rising sun.

How well Dead Rising sold, and how well Lost Planet looks like it will sell (at the Gamestop I work at, we have over a hundered pre-orders for it), Capcom would be crazy NOT to release more exclusive games for 360 and port all PS3 titles to 360 as well.

That aside from the big 3 in Sony's corner (Square-enix, Polyphony Digital and Konami), Sony doesn't have as many big-name exclusive games coming this time around. Fact is, it is easier and cheaper to develop games on the 360, so more and more companies that make games are adopting the 360 as their main development platform, even Japanese developers (ie, Capcom). Don't forget, making games is a BUSINESS which means publishers are about making MONEY. So if the PS3 costs more to develop game...

That the 360 is selling fairly close to how well the original xbox sold, better or worse doesn’t really matter. (10 million shipped EXCLUDES replacement systems; that is why you have to ship your broken box to Texas to get it repaired or replaced– the systems they have at the repair center are not counted as “shipped to retail” since, obviously, they were not.) Thing is, most people are missing the big picture. Microsoft is one of the largest and wealthiest companies in the world– they unders...

Xbox came out a year after the PS2 and has NEVER been cheaper, you idiot! Check your facts!

It has 1080p listed, it just gets cut off in most browsers. Thing to note is that since HD-DVD supports all three high-def formats, even if you don't have a 1080p tv (with or without HDMI), you will still get a crystal-clear high-def picture. People with 1080i sets trying to use a PS3, well, they get screwed by Sony. (Who else thinks this down-conversion boo boo with the PS3 is no accident, but a way for Sony to try and push people to buy their 1080p tv's? I mean, they are taking such a l...

You guys are right, they didn't mention some big games, but all the ones they DID mention are going to be out in 2007 for sure. And most of them are exclusive to 360. PS3's heavy hitters, though, are at LEAST a year away, if they make it out in 07 at all. Lair, Heavenly Sword, MGS 4, etc. And now that Gran Turismo HD has been canned, I doubt Gran Turismo 5 will see the light of day until 2008. I wonder how many people are going to get tire of waiting, and waiting, and waiting for Sony. J...

Everybody is turning a vaild point into a way to pit consoles against each other. But the fact is this: as a gamer who bought a PS3 and fully expected all your PS2 games to run on it... didn't you expect them to at LEAST look just as good as they did on the PS2? Are you happy that the 5 or 6 hundred dollar investment you made in Sony seems only based on the future (what awesome games developed exclusively for PS3 will look like, in time) but lets those thousands of PS1 and PS2 titles look ...
