Remember how the Cell made for a unique dev environment that required extra work on the part of the dev to get the most out of the chip? Now it's MS's turn with the "cloud." Let's see if they can pull it off.
>>So obviously games will be in 1080p 60 fps
Sony already had 1080p/60fps games on the PS3. Are you implying that *all* games will be 1080p/60fps? Because that is a boooold statement.
>>If you are scared...
1) Server cost should be covered in the initial purchase. There is no difference to the server load whether the original buyer plays for four years, or if they play for two years, sell it, and the new user plays for two years.
2) "Majority" is obviously not "all games." And just because a game has online functionality, does not mean that the player is using that functionality.
3) They deserve extra money for leaderboard servers? Really? I'd rather keep ...
Can you explain to me what makes video game developers/publishers unique among all other industries in that they should be entitled to returns from second-hand sales of previously purchased products?
>>said the reveal was for the hardware, showing what the console can do and its features
Then why did they spend half the show on EA Sports and CoD?
Can you explain what makes the video game industry unique among all industries in that they should be entitled to returns on second-hand sales of previously purchased products?
Let's not get overly hyperbolic, hdshatter. I'd be more than happy to buy one if they gave me a million dollars. What I'd do with it afterwards would be the real question.
My mistake... Mundie's no longer CRO... now he's a "senior advisor" to Balmer.
"[Mundie] called for a "driver's license" for internet users.
"If you want to drive a car you have to have a license to say that you are capable of driving a car, the car has to pass a test to say it is fit to drive and you have to have insurance."
Craig Mundie, Chief Research Officer at MS, is on the Bilderberg steering committee, and Gates has attended in person.
It's called the "voluntary corporate sodomy agreement," aka "EULA."
Funny how most folks, SDF folks included, are saying "I hope MS changes their over-restrictive DRM policy." Yet the Xbots are saying "I hope Sony institutes an over-restrictive DRM policy."
Sad. What will you guys do if Sony *doesn't* go the same path as MS?
"Breaking news: The federal government has passed a law that requires everyone to wear a hat when they leave their house."
"Meh... so what? What's the big deal? I already wear a hat when I go outside."
@loulou
You're right. Sony could still have a very restrictive system waiting in the wings. And yes, they could come out the hero with a simple statement.
However, you know what will be truly deafening? The applause at E3 if they make the statement then. (and it will be more than Sony employees doing the cheering)
Can you explain what makes the video game industry special among all other industries in that they should be entitled to returns from second-hand sales of previously purchased products?
Can you explain what makes video game developers/publishers unique among all industries in that they should receive returns on subsequent sales of previously purchased products?
But they can only play it if you've got the game running, tying up your system from doing or playing anything else. I believe it's supposed to be streamed, so there's still actually only one instance of the game running, on your console, so it's not quite the same as "borrowing." They're telecommuting to your house to play your game on your console. (and I'd assume they couldn't earn any trophies or save any progress for their own profile)
@Jek:
"You've got old information my friend.

How many different ways to people need to debunk that article before you stop reposting it? It's not even the actual source article from Polygon.
Hey, it worked for Google.
"Whoopsy-doodle!"
@Jek: "it's not like it's fully on the entire time, the lights go off"
Wow... just... wow.
I wonder how I get all those calls on my phone. After all, its lights are off before it rings.
@b-real: You mean like Google got in so much trouble for sucking up people's personal info with their StreetView spymobiles?
I mean hell, I guess if I don't need to worry about MS because I can be assured that the go...
