Obviously the PSN will be receiving a significant infrastructure upgrade, so I don't put much stock in the reasoning behind this article. (and why should we? "PlayStation 4 can still be enjoyed old school without an Internet connection at all.")

If the PSN can't "handle" the traffic for TLoU demo, how would it handle everything related to that "share" button? The PSN will be upgraded, and incorporated with Gaikai's systems. For whate...

@omi25p:

If you truly believe that the government does not use keyword software that can analyze every communication and isolate selected exerpts based on a preselected criteria, then you are a fool.

And while many people seem to like to default to this "they can't watch everyone" position (and yeah, they sort of can and do), there's the others that prefer to go for the "I'm/you're insignificant and one cares what you're do...

>>But it doesn't mean that PS4 will not force you to be connected once during install in order to tie your purchased game to your PSN account, preventing you from lending it to friends just like Xbox One.

No, but this pretty much does:

@DragonKnight

"I don't understand why people need specifically worded sentences to see direct confirmation."

Because some of us understand the principles of PR speak. Words are often carefully selected to imply one thing when a specific reading in fact reveals conditionals or obfuscations.

This is why MS is able to issue statements in regards to "possible scenarios" and soforth. These types of word games are not unique...

I know there have been other statements that indicate the PS4 will be playable entirely offline, but this particular statement is hardly a "straight answer."

chuckles @ disagrees (that can't be bothered to post a counterargument).

The *current* EULA for the *original* Kinect already admits that they spy on you for marketing purposes. It's pretty sad when people can't acknowledge these things when they're *literally* already being spelled out for you by MS. What possible reason does anyone have to believe that they will backtrack from their current EULA when it comes to the One and K2.0?

The one official charging station on the PlayStation site is nice; I just got that Energizer one as an impulse buy on sale for like $20 a while back.

I do prefer that DreamGear stand for the slim over anything Sony's officially offering, though.

Edit: as for the PS4 controllers... it's a touch irritating that they went from mini-USB to micro-USB. I've got 12ft mini-USB cables if I need them, but only a couple 2-3ft micro-USB cables (I'm sure t...

There are also a number of relatively stylish 3rd party charge stands that will charge controllers while the PS3 is off.

I've got one of these (living room): http://www.amazon.com/PS3-M...

And one of these (bedroom PSphat): 4662d ago 5 agree3 disagreeView comment

Part of the reason I don't want an MS spybox in my house is because I do have a life and a woman (and kids), and I'd prefer they not be constantly tracked analyzed and monetized for marketing metrics (and who knows what else).

If you've got PS+, even if you don't have a Vita, you should download any free Vita games every week. Just start the download in the store and then cancel it in the download monitor. That way it will go on your download list, and you can still download it later if you pick up a Vita (and stay subbed to PS+). Otherwise, once it cycles out of being free on the PSN store, you won't have the opportunity.

If they can demonstrate effective use of the tech, I'd be willing to pick up a Vita if I get a PS4. It'd be great just to have this around the house... pop out for a smoke on the deck without having to sit out a round, play a bit before bed without having to move the console. If it works well over the net, even better.

They're obviously not going to bundle a Vita with every PS4. That doesn't mean they won't offer any Vita bundles at all, though. Hopefully...

I always love the argument that "the CIA/government has better things to do than watch you." And hey... you're right... the people have better things to do... like study the reports that are spit out by the supercomputers that process and analyze just about every single piece of sigint/comint in the country (and much of the world). @xDHAV0K24x: yes, "temporary" being the duration of your subscription.

Anything you get "free" with PS+, you can use/play for as long as you subscribe to PS+, on up to three PS3s simultaneously (even using different PSN accounts, as long as the subscribing account is activated on the machine).

Anything you buy with a PS+ discount is yours to keep even after your sub expires.

It's not illegal if you agree to it (well, that's actually somewhat debateable, but that's beside the point for now).

The current XBL EULA includes the following. Keep in mind that the term "Services" will cover a much broader spectrum with the One.

"If you use the Xbox console with Kinect, we may also collect data about the way in which you interact with the console and the Services to improve Microsoft products and services."...

That should be "interest piqued."

piqued (past participle, past tense of pique)
Verb
Stimulate (interest or curiosity)

Not meant to be a dig... most people get it wrong... just spreading some knowledge.

Since when was it Microsoft's job to make sure Netscape could stay in business?

If I recall, there was a lawsuit related to that. A lawsuit that MS lost/settled.

Opposing monopolistic/anti-competitive practices is not necessarily "communist."

After reading that article, all I can say is...

...how the hell do Latvia and Czeck Republic have higher bandwidth than the US? I guess maybe the CR could be some kind of continental hub, but Latvia?

Do Alaska and Hawaii bring down our average or something?

Bubbles for madpuppy and steven83r.

And steven brought up something like what I think these whiny pubs should do if they've got such a problem with used games and they insist on a cut... they should set up their own damn buyback programs.

And to the "books cost a lot less to produce" comment: that may be true for some books, but definitely not all. I'm currently reading Graham Hancock's "Underworld," and the author flew all ove...
