Not sure what the disagrees are about:
Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Switch Sports
BotW sequel
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
Project Triangle Strategy
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Advance Wars 1 + 2
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Mario + Rabbids 2
Splatoon 3
Bayonetta 3
Super Mario Strikers
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Then DLC for Mario Kart 8 and Monster Hunter Rise
...
They typically make at least a couple new IP's each generation and at least one of them becomes synonymous with the Nintendo brand. Gamecube had Pikmin, Wii had Xenoblade (and the Wii series), Wii U had Splatoon...so far we haven't really gotten that with the Switch. I mean, we've had new IP's for sure (Arms, Astral Chain, Ring Fit), but so far nothing that seems like lifelong Nintendo properties. Hopefully we get some soon!
I believe there were adjustments made after NPD announced PS5 lead January sales.
The thing is, Switch is doing great numbers any way you look at it. PS5 being "miles in front" would basically mean they would be selling way over 20M a year. Which the PS4 only did one time. Even without shortages, the PS5 wouldn't necessarily be miles in front. It would be a heck of a lot closer, that's for sure, but Switch sales are just very high even still.
@Eon
Dude, nobody says BotW "invented" open world games. Heck, BotW isn't even the first open world Zelda game and even this article talks about all the other open world games that inspired BotW. So I don't know where you're getting that idea.
Also, the game does stand incredibly well on it's own. The mechanics work together incredibly well. The games chemistry system is one of the most flexible things I've seen in a video ga...
@badz
A portable with the power of the Series S in 2025 would be actually really good.
Don't fight fire with fire, my dude. Sony's sales are just as deserved as Nintendo's. And it's not like Nintendo has never dropped the price of products to maintain competitive. Besides, one could argue that Switch launched for a lower price point to begin with.
Their output absolutely has increased from what they were putting out on Wii U. Sure it isn't Wii U + 3DS, but people should remember making games for the 3DS is a lot cheaper and a lot quicker.
Also, sorry to burst your bubble, but these sales 100% mean they aren't rushing to put out another product.
They shipped 10.67M consoles this quarter. For comparison, Sony expects PS5 to ship 11.5M consoles for the entire fiscal year.
In addition, Switch almost outsold Xbox Series entire estimated sales (Nov 2020 - Jan 2022) in just three months.
This console is a freight train
Console shipment numbers by comparison in the same timeframe:
PS3 - 12.85M
PS4 - 20.1M
3DS - 17.13M
Switch - 17.79M
17.3M maybe less than they anticipated at this point (due to the component shortages), but it is definitely still great performance for a console.
Switch is not almost six years old. It isn't even five years old. It turns five March 3rd, 2022.
Edit: oops, looks like others beat me to the punch
You should definitely go back and play some PS2 games. Even if this game doesn't look great graphically, saying it's PS2 level just shows you haven't played those games in a while.
Honestly, seldom has it ever been the most powerful console that "won" the generation. The NES was weaker than the Master System, the PS1 was weaker than the N64, the Gameboy was weaker than the Gamegear, the PS2 was weaker than both the Cube and the Xbox, the Wii was weaker than the PS3 and 360, the DS was weaker than the PSP, and the 3DS was weaker than the Vita.
The only times where a more powerful console has "won" the generation was with the SNES a...
Guaranteed Switch will beat out PS4 and GB, even if they don't cut the price. It's only 16M away from the GB. Switch would have to be over 60% down YoY (<10M sales) this year and then over 60% YoY the next year (<6M sales) then discontinued for it to not hit that. That's a cliff that is even more dramatic than the Wii.
Next up, Gameboy and PS4! Those will likely be knocked down by the end of the year. Switch only needs 15M in sales to pass PS4 and 16M to pass the Gameboy. Seeing as the Switch sold just shy of 25M in 2021 as estimated (and likely shipped a bit over that), then this is all but guaranteed. Switch could be down by over 30% YoY and still pass them with a million to spare.
@randomvoice
"What are you talking about? The Nintendo DS sold 154 million units as per estimates"
I clearly said the 3DS, did I not? The NDS and PS2 are anomalies. They are the best selling consoles in their respective classes and likely will be for some time to come, unless somehow the Switch manages to overcome them (which I think is doubtful, but possible nevertheless). The Switch is on track to become either the second best selling portable...
@Xblade
Yeah, I definitely agree there. DK64 was my first ever home console game.
@disagrees
What the heck are you guys disagreeing with? Did Donkey Kong 64 not exist to you guys?
105M. Just 11M shy of PS4 and 13M shy of Gameboy. Switch will outsell both of these consoles by the end of the year. Then the only consoles left will be DS and PS2 (which it still has a ways to go)
