The SNES had four facebuttons in a uniform configuration before the PS1
But being interested in sales isn't necessarily about console fandom. Like, NDS being the second best selling console of all time doesn't change that I like the PSP better. But it's definitely interesting.
I like my switch. It's a fun machine. But it's interesting how Nintendo is going from it's worst selling home and portable consoles ever to possibly the best selling console of all time. That's quite the turn around and nothing is wrong with f...
I don't think BotW 2 would hit this number, but MK8: Deluxe is at 45M sold (and that isn't including the Wii U version. Also, animal crossing is at 38M. So it is possible for a single game on a single platform to sell those kinds of numbers. It's just HIGHLY unlikely.
I don't see why you're acting all surprised by people talking about console sales in an article about sales. If you don't think sales are interesting I've no idea why you clicked on the article.
Oops I meant PS5 not PS4
Everyone is up this week! Switch will hit 110M next week. Just 7M more to outsell PS4 and 8.7M more to outsell Gameboy.
PS4 will also hit 21M next week too. After that just 750k to outsell the Gamecube and 3.7M to outsell the original Xbox.
Funny how when the Switch launched comparisons to the PS4 were completely valid, but now they aren't because "ThE SwiTcH ISnT a CoNSolE". Ridiculous.
@sierra
Why would I be nervous? It's guaranteed to happen at this point.
Switch is also a "console" but, regardless of handheld or home... People will compare
Anyone still thinking Switch won't outsell PS4 by December is probably getting real nervous.
I'm going to disagree here, but mostly because the controller features are way less important than A) exclusive games and B) playing with friends. So if you have friends in the Xbox ecosystem and like Bethesda games I could see why you'd want to go with Xbox. Though, personally, I've never really been an Xbox guy.
The controller features, IMO, are going to be way better for VR though. So I'll probably pick up a PS5 when VR2 comes out.
Honestly, the comparisons are very miniscule this generation. It's not like the Xbox/PS2 where entire sections had to be stripped out and frame rates were cut in half. Or last gen where Xbox One was routinely lower resolution. The consoles are very comparable this time
It's valid to compare them, but there should be context that one was released almost 5 years after the other.
When you have retailer data making estimates isn't just a random guess. Mathematical formulas can aid in the extrapolation of data and then they adjust from there when given other data (e.g. NPD states Xbox #1 in dollar but #2 in hardware means they'll adjust based on known switch numbers and the ratio of Series X to Series S).
You guys act like it's just fake BS, but it's not. Estimations in mathematics are extremely common and used everywhere. Yes they ar...
Pokemon is a big hitter, sales wise. But more "core" titles are desired for sure
It's not about power. Never has been. NES, GB, PS1, PS2, NDS, Wii, 3DS, and now Switch. All of these consoles were very successful and none of them were the most powerful on the market compared to competitors
Welp, I hope everyone who said that P5 couldn't run on Switch feels foolish now. It never had anything to do with power. The game was on PS3 for crying out loud.
Very excited for this news though
A 3x boost for the rest of the year would put them at 13M not 10M. You meant a 2x boost, so each one sells 6.6 - 6.8M more units from June to December.
There are some real sensitive people around when it comes to sales of a console.
@RGB
I'm not sure what you mean about "not really". The SNES had the four face buttons in a uniform configuration. When Sony was creating the PlayStation controller they built up from the SNES pad (in part because the original PlayStation was an SNES add-on). Originally they just added two shoulder buttons but realized that handles were necessary due to the weight shift.
N64 didn't use the same configuration because they wanted the C but...
