This is article is pretty poor, then again thisgengaming spews out crap opinion pieces all the time.
Do I think MS over-rely on Halo, Gears and Forza? Yes I do think the company has it's relied on it's staple IPs too much, but they keep selling. MS does put out a fare share of new IPs. However, it is hard for new IPs to establish themselves, and they unlikely to do as well as Halo, Gears or Forza, especially when they aren't multi-platform (ignoring the Windo...
No offense to her, but I found this writer's stories to be the weakest part of the rebooted Tomb Raider series. You could be right, or maybe she was replaced, due to the mixed reception of the plots she created for the games.
The Wii U price is absurd, considering how poorly the console did in 2013, most of 2015 and 2016. The system is being replaced and it still cost almost as much as an XB1 or PS4 500 gb console. The holiday prices of the Wii U here in Canada, weren't even competitive at all .
Waste of money.
Dropping the price of the Wii u in 2014 would of been the right thing to do; then launch the NX in 2018.
Mechwarrior (Battletech) and Shadowrun have come back, but only PC versions were commissioned. I would personally like Perfect Dark, Banjo and a Conker ( with an actual budget) to be produced.
@ Foxtrot No, the game took itself seriously, dark atmosphere with a focused story.
The argument for this Prey being a new ip, stems from the fact that it has no connections to the previous title. Different setting, story, gameplay and characters, the Prey name was only used to make marketing easier.
I wouldn't call the original (and true) Prey, "light hearted". The title was derived from the fact that people were being harvested to be used for experimentation and food for the massive organic alien ship.
All the new shooters this holiday, and even some of older titles, likely benefited from Infinite Warfare's less dominant sales. Titanfall 2 simply launched too close to BF1 and COD: IW. EA likely strongly favoured BF1 performing over Titanfall 2, since the company owns the battlefield ip.
Halo 6 certainly ain't launching in 2017.
My bold predictions
1. Ori sequel announced
2. One of the classic IPs Phil Spencer likes to tease and talk about finally shows up.
3. Native backwards compatibility for OG XB games. Some wil be sold through Xbox live.
I think the larger MS Studios should take an approach similar to Naughty Dog, where the studio has 2 teams working on two separate IPS (or two games) coherently. This would allow resources to be shared between projects, and give more creative freedom to MS Studios.
MS don't need a new racing IP, they have enough (Forza, Rallisport Challenge, Project Gotham Racing and Quantum RedShift ).
I think Doom has the best single player of any FPS, I've played since Metro Redux. I haven't gotten around to purchasing Titanfall 2, yet due to high Canadian game prices. I recently finished BF1 campaign, and found it to be a waste of time, unfortunately.
Lack of price drops, few new game releases, PS4 pro and the announcement of the Switch, pretty much cemented that Wii U, would not perform well this holiday.
I am not a PC gamer, I played Uncharted 4, and I don't see it as my game of the year. I enjoyed Doom, Ratchet and Clank, Gears of War 4 and Dark Souls 3 more than Uncharted 4.
Well I wouldn't be too confident investing into Crytek, they don't make massive selling games, and their track record has been somewhat spotty.
Too many modern day shooters have heavy skill gap compression. Not enough emphasis on team play, map control and gun skill. I'm hoping Unreal Tournament (2016) makes it to consoles, as it looks like the thoroughbred oldschool arena shooter, that consoles need. Halo 5 and Gears 4 are great arenas shooters, but they aren't oldschool.
Halo 5 and Gears 4 are some of the only console shooter that aren't full of skill gap compression, unfortunately.
I think this game of all the titles of 2016, got a little too generous of a reception. However, that is just my personal opinion.
