I think Nintendo would require a kick from a horse, to fully wake up.
The third party developers, aren't investing much into the Switch at launch (and likely for the rest 2017). If the system doesn't do well, the third parties will jump ship fast, which is what happened to the Wii U.
Blizzard banned thousands of cheaters from SC 2 and Diablo 3. These mass bannings aren't anything new for the company.
I don't think the Switch will do that well, due mainly to it's price, and expensive accessories. The console is launching with Zelda, but that is also on the Wii U. How much better is the Switch version of the game compared to the Wii U version (is resolution and framerate the only difference (1080 or 900p30 vs 720p30?) ? Then, you have to factor in that the Switch is launching in March; Sony and MS, are known to do sales around that time.
You can get an XB1s or PS4...
The person playing the game, should easily able to tell if it is 60 or 30 FPS......
The first comment on the video contradicts the 60 FPS claim, and is by Eurogamers YouTube account.
Some good, but a lot of cringe.
Platinum got Nier Automata, Mutants in Manhattan, Legend of Korra and Transformers Devastation done before Scalebound. The previously mentioned games were all developed after Scalebound's announcement. This make me wonder where the company was devoting their resources.
I think Platnium is more to blame for Scalebound's cancelation. They likely weren't making enough progress on the title, even after it got a full year delay. Every time Scalebound was shown, even after a free years of development the game always looked 'rough'.
If the pressure keeps up, the community could force an early reveal of a title.
Not really genres have been blended in titles for decades. The Metroid series blended 2D shooter, adventure and platformer way back in the 80s. Genres will always exist because games can be made vastly different from each other, and people have different tastes.
Sea of Thieves is based on the concept for Project Dream.
Hypocrisy at its finest.
The fan base has been asking for games like Banjo, Mech Assault, Conker, Perfect Dark and Crimson Skies for years. The demand for those old IPs is blatantly apparent. Maybe, MS is reluctant to invest into them, since they likely wouldn't do huge numbers, but have good chance of solid sales (in my opinion at least).
Aside: I like Crimson Skies, but unfortunately I can't beat High Road to Revenge, since I'm terrible at flying lol.
Microsoft has been trying to penetrate the Japanese game market for over a decade, and has had little success doing so. The Xbox division should be focusing on games that appeal to the west. Bring back the IPs that the Xbox user base has been wanting for years, instead of investing 100s of millions, into probable flops directed at the Japanese market.
Final Fantasy is an stablished multi million selling IP, the series has been an RPG staple for decades. Comparing Final Fantasy to Scalebound is not a fair comparison.
This should be the needed lesson for the studio, to stop making so many games at once. Sure they will get less funding, but their games will have better chance of being comparable to Bayonetta and Vanquish more consistently.
@ maybelovehate, you do have a good point, but development likely started on XB1 first. I think staff at Platinum were jumping back and forth between projects. The studio was/ is making too many games at once. I can image Hideki Kamiya, wanted more people on his project and had to compete for staff with the rest of the studio.
Last Guardian likely had a much smaller budget than Scalebound.
What now? Move on, the industry already has, but the mediocre journalists, and fanboys haven't .
