I've never commented on Scalebound, but it was probably the same situation. The new fable game was probably the same. After awhile you have to look at what you're investing in and make the decision whether it's time to keep going or let it go and try something new. We don't know what was going on with Scalebound but obviously Microsoft looked at it and determined that they were never going to get back their investment, so sinking even more money into it would be a waste.
I think this has more to do with Sony letting them go than anything. Rime was announced at Gamescom 2013. Giant Sparrow released Unfinished Swan in 2012... and spent the next five years working on Edith Finch? Somewhere along the way I'm sure the people at Sony said, enough is enough.
In the end, both may turn out to be great in the end, but Sony can't fund every project out there.
It's like you read my mind. Sega comes back with some awesome Blast Processing, and suddenly this is a horse race again. These other "non-Blast Processing" consoles will look like broken down wrecks in comparison. #WelcomeToTheNextLevel
First thing I see is "There's over 100 games available" and I think, "It should read 'There are over 100 games available'." There is over 100 games... that's just wrong. I expect more out of Games Radar.
(though XBOX Game Pass looks pretty great. The competition is really ramping up)
Blowing on the cartridge did work. It was blowing dust off the contacts. Today we'd use canned air or a swab with rubbing alcohol. Back then, we just blew on the cartridge. It worked and it wasn't just taking the cartridge out and putting it back in. That never worked.
I own a 3DS with supposedly some great games and yet they all actually kinda suck. The 3DS is a poor system is bland games. Even Mario Kart 7 is only mediocre at best. I'm not sure why people seem so fond of it, but Nintendo would be better off focusing their resources on Switch. I mean, the fact they wasted money making Hey! Pikmin kind of says it all. People (like me) got suckered into buying a 3DS and are looking for something to play, but we need to come to our senses and stop buying ...
It's also coming to Vita in physical form through Limited Run Games later this year.
I think you're on to something. Cambridge supported Sony's crazy side projects like Vita and PSVR. Had they just played it safe and made a PS4 game, they'd probably still be around.
Now I think Media Molecule are deliberately stalling on releasing Dreams because they know once it flops, the studio is getting shut down.
How about a retro console, kind of like the NES Classic but with the ability to play Master System, Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast games? Oh, and you can buy more games later on. Maybe something like a Virtual Console box but just without Nintendo. Hell, throw in Turbo Graphix and Neo Geo games as well.
It probably isn't that at all, but a SEGA kid can still dream.
I get the feeling that this wasn't Bend's first game after Golden Abyss. I'd bet they were originally working on another Vita game but once Sony realized Vita wasn't going to be a hit, they shifted to make a PS4 game. It just seems like an awful long development time, unless there was a mishap in between.
It won't be $900 as they will get better pricing on all the components, but the point still stands that the idea this thing will only cost $400 is beyond ludicrous. I think when all is said and done, Scorpio is going to be more expensive than people think and not as powerful as people are expecting.
Dan Stapleton also reviewed Arkham Knight for IGN... after stating that the game had significant performance issues on PC, the game still got a 9.2. I'm so confused as to the standard IGN uses. There doesn't seem to be any consistency, which you need if the actual score is to mean anything.
It's not about how well it's selling, or how well Nintendo's games sell on it, but it's how third party games sell on it. EA games sell on PS4/XB1. If EA puts out FIFA for Switch and nobody buys it, EA has no reason to keep making games for it.
Spencer is just pissed that the XB1 doesn't have blast processing. He knows he can't compete in this heated (and crowded) console market.
Genesis does what Microwon't!
It's almost as if they're saying, "We heard about this thing called a 'parity clause' and we can't commit to that." But they're interested in Switch, which they have zero knowledge about. And it's been revealed that while Nintendo may not have a strict parity clause, if you don't release day-and-date with other platforms, Nintendo will do absolutely nothing to help promote your game.
Even then, power isn't everything. Minecraft is one of the most popular games ever and it can run on some really low powered systems. People buy consoles to play great games, and great games don't always require the most powerful hardware.
Y'know, sometimes limitations actually make things better. Jaws was a better movie because Spielberg didn't have unlimited resources. Star Wars was a better movie because Lucas has to make due with what he had. Journey was a better game because the devs didn't have all the money in the world.
Remember, The Last of Us was an amazing game created on ancient hardware. Sometimes it's not about what you have, but how you use it.
I once dated a girl, and two weeks in, she was the love of my life. I wanted to spend every waking moment with her. Three months later, I couldn't stand the sound of her voice and wanted to be as far from her as possible.
Lesson being, you need to take some time and let things settle in before jumping to conclusions. Yes, Switch is selling well now, but give it a year or two. I can tell you right now that it doesn't have the mass market appeal of the Wii.
The PS4 Pro just launched, and the cost to justify a new generation of hardware is way too expensive. No. There won't be a PS5 in 2018 or even 2019.
It seems like this is their approach every year. Sony makes all these little announcements to hype things up while Sony remains silent. Then everyone starts speculating the Sony's silence is a cause for concern... until the press conference where they blow everyone away with amazing games.
