Take Microsoft’s presentations per this and next gen not even running on their Upcoming console hardware.
Sony did make a huge changes with the PS3s architecture.
Microsoft has not done anything other than try to preserve how computing hardware works that benefits their os and throwing in pc parts from other manufactures.

The cpu needs speed and less bottlenecks.
The engines are just as important as the hardware per seeing gen defining leaps.
We are also talking innovation and evolution with Sony.
Not more make up on old game engines for cheap costs and better profits.
It is the entire infrastructure of the hardware and that can only be driven by a vision in gaming.
The ssd is not the secret sauce, it is just a part of it. Like teraflops in a pc... not the “sales pitch” Microsoft made it out to be.
Unless you have an 8k monitor or tv... you can have all the teraflops you want.. you still will not get anything other than a larger power bill.
Rendering what is in the game at 4k is where all the bottlenecks becomes relevant.
But the price would not have an effect.
Unless the price difference is at an incredible difference.., $399 to $499 would not dictate Microsoft’s attempt to recapture what they lost due to their own inability to be a gaming company.
Microsoft lost 50 million subscribers in the first 3 years... its not like they will get 50 million replacement consumers after a gen that failed due to their software offerings going into this gen.

Ha! Uncharted 4 was already doing things this demo was showing off.. just with a better architecture to support said game engine techniques.
Sony has been building game engines for the better part of this gen.
No 1998 game engines in this area... stick with crackdown 3 if blind loyalty is your thing.

Not really. Not to say they will not.. but the mid gen consoles were for the 4k tv boom that happened in said time. Something that greatly benefited Sony per their long 4k push with no content really there.
8k is nowhere near a consumer boom.. so no real need for a hardware push that would have any real return.
Where as Microsoft is a corporation trying to fit in with no real vision with gaming. All of their engines this gen were just reu...

Crackdown 3 did not need more “power”... it needed a new engine so it did not play like a 4k dated game.

Game engines need updated and doing so can ease the information overload.

Yes, some developers will continue the practice.. but the resolution will be capped to a level that has been in gaming for a couple of years now.
Ie texture packs etc are not going to grow ove...
